Hayley

Hayley is the doctor and a sergeant at the Second Military Base, where her medical work repeatedly brings her close to Quinn's concealed vampire life without revealing it. She later serves as an Earthborn field doctor, protects civilians during the demon-tier Marked crisis, and joins the Cursed faction. After learning how her father Paul died, Hayley asks Quinn to turn her and becomes a Succubus; the corpus does not establish her fate after Quinn's thousand-year absence. Biography

Doctor at the Second Military Base

Hayley first treats Layla after Quinn loses control and bites her. She notices the paired punctures and their abnormal healing, removes the remaining marks with her ability, and accepts Layla's explanation of a stray beast only provisionally. Similar wounds on other students and a dead traveller make her report a possible threat to the generals, but the evidence never gives her enough to identify Quinn as a vampire. Her medical attention therefore repeatedly protects his secret without informed participation in it. (Chapters 20–48 and 95–98)

As the academy's only regularly present doctor, Hayley treats the low-level students most often injured by the school's violence and privately questions why the institution tolerates it. She reattaches Vorden's arm, heals Quinn's remaining wounds, and admits she would welcome another healer because the infirmary is understaffed. Her concern is practical as well as compassionate: when a critically wounded student is beyond treatment, she records the death rather than claiming her ability can reverse it. (Chapters 20, 36, and 47)

Hayley also holds a sergeant's rank and joins Fay, Leo, and Del on the mission to recover Quinn and Vorden from Pioletic. She wears high-tier beast equipment, carries a greatsword, helps lift a collapsed Glathrium door, examines a corpse under combat conditions, and treats the students after extraction. Her father Paul's position prompts rumours that her rank comes from connections, but her field conduct and medical competence are independently demonstrated. (Chapters 48 and 84–98)

Paul, Earthborn, and the faction tournament

During the faction tournament, Supreme Commander Oscar sends Hayley to treat Peter after a Qi-infused cut stops his regeneration. She combines her healing ability with surgery and bandaging, stabilising him even though she cannot remove the hostile energy or restore his arm. The assignment reunites her with Paul, whom she believed missing. Hayley is less concerned that he now serves another faction than that he allowed her to fear he was dead; Paul explains that he stayed away to keep vampire attention off his family. The reunion exposes the cost of Paul's protective secrecy without fully repairing it. Hayley continues serving with Earthborn and later recognises personnel who once worked with the Bree family, providing context when the military's hidden relationships become relevant. She treats combatants without adopting Ko's contempt for rival factions, and her work establishes a practical trust with members of the Cursed group. (Chapters 754–799 and 955–993)

That trust is grounded in medical responsibility rather than allegiance alone. Hayley questions leaders when their orders endanger patients, recognises Quinn's group from her academy experience, and remains willing to enter situations in which her healing power may not be sufficient. Her growing connection to the Cursed faction is therefore a continuation of her role as doctor, not an unexplained political conversion. (Chapters 753–799 and 955–1005)

Treating the Marked

When the demon-tier tree turns civilians into the Marked, Hayley arrives with ten healers and helps organise care in Ko's shelter. She reserves finite MC energy for severe cases and uses conventional medicine on wounds that can heal without it. She also watches changes in the markings closely enough to recognise when the controlling influence releases a victim, preventing Eno from killing someone who has regained himself. (Chapters 1052–1063 and 1069)

Hayley's medical strategy initially assumes the victims can be contained and treated, but accelerated transmission proves that assumption wrong. She openly admits the error when the Marked begin converting people within seconds. Even then she joins the Cursed fighters' retreat, examines Ko's progressing marks, and helps restore the shelter once the demon-tier threat ends. Her response moves from clinical containment to survival and then back to organised recovery. (Chapters 1055–1066)

Working with Layla further changes Hayley's understanding of the young people she once treated at school. She sees Layla's nonhuman form but responds with concern and humour instead of fear, encourages her to speak honestly before war removes the opportunity, and repeatedly asks about Paul. Layla in turn arranges the conversation through which Hayley will eventually learn her father's fate. (Chapters 1059–1069 and 1470–1484)

Following Paul's path

After Paul dies, Hayley seeks a direct account from Quinn. He tells her that Paul and his soldiers discovered the vampire world, were imprisoned, and accepted transformation to survive; Paul later died protecting Kazz. Hayley laughs through grief, remembers that Paul pushed her toward medicine and equipped her for war, and asks Quinn to turn her so she can follow the path that changed him. Her request is explicit and persists after Quinn explains the risks. (Chapter 1484)

Quinn performs the blood ritual himself because the connection is personal. Hayley endures the transformation and becomes a Succubus rather than a regular vampire, developing a horn, tail, altered body, and an acute first hunger described as lust rather than blood craving. The immediate episode requires private help and establishes that the subclass has needs and triggers unlike Quinn's other creations. It does not establish that Hayley's ordinary affection, medical ethics, or consent disappear after the change. (Chapters 1485–1487)

Hayley is expected to travel with the main Cursed faction as she requested. The last direct scene leaves her alive with Muka while she recovers and dresses; a later recollection places her among the Cursed members Quinn knew only briefly before his slumber. Quinn hopes those people lived freely, but provides no confirmed account of Hayley's millennium. The corpus therefore leaves her later survival, subclass progression, and final location unknown. Appearance and personality

Hayley is a brown-haired woman who usually wears round glasses and keeps her hair in a ponytail while working. In the field she exchanges her white coat for heavy high-tier armour and carries a greatsword. Her Succubus transformation loosens her hair, produces a horn on the left side of her head and a thin tail, and changes her body proportions. She is observant, talkative from years of working an isolated infirmary, and willing to challenge military indifference. Her compassion remains disciplined: she distinguishes injuries her power can heal from deaths or Qi wounds it cannot, and preserves energy for the patients who need it most. (Chapters 20–98, 753–754, 1069, and 1484–1487)

Powers and abilities

Healing ability and medicine

Hayley's ability emits a faint glow through her hands and accelerates the healing of wounds. It removes small punctures without scars, completes the repair of larger injuries, and helps stabilise severe trauma. The power consumes finite MC cells, so she uses stitches, bandages, surgery, medication, and medical equipment whenever natural recovery or conventional treatment is sufficient. Her training lets her diagnose and act even when an ability-only healer cannot. (Chapters 20, 36, 47, 97, 753–754, and 1069)

The ability is not resurrection and does not override every form of damage. Hayley cannot save a student who arrives after the point of recovery, and Qi left around Peter's wound blocks both his regeneration and most of her healing. She can keep him alive by operating and closing the injury, but cannot restore the severed arm or remove the Qi herself. The Marked crisis likewise requires the underlying demon-tier control to be broken; treating bites alone cannot stop transmission. (Chapters 36, 753–754, and 1052–1066)

Military training and equipment

As a sergeant and field doctor, Hayley can operate on beast planets and within active shelters. Her early armour lets her help lift a collapsed Glathrium door, and she carries a greatsword large enough to resemble professional Traveller equipment. The corpus attributes much of that lifting feat to the high-level gear Paul bought her rather than confirming exceptional unarmoured strength. It does not show a named sword technique or sustained duel from which to infer her combat ceiling. (Chapters 93–98 and 1484)

Succubus physiology

Quinn's blood ritual creates a Succubus, a vampire subclass associated with lust rather than ordinary romantic attachment. The initial transformation gives Hayley a horn and tail and triggers an overwhelming hunger. Muka compares the newborn response to a vampire encountering blood: the presence of men heightens it, and virgin men are described as especially intense triggers. Satisfying the first episode calms the crisis, but the corpus does not provide a complete recurring feeding schedule or show how abstinence would affect her. (Chapters 1485–1487)

The available chapters do not demonstrate later combat applications, charm techniques, regeneration, sunlight tolerance, or a mature Succubus form for Hayley. Nor do they establish that the subclass's general description determines every personal choice she makes. Hayley repeatedly notices details others miss: recurring bite marks, unnatural self-healing, the residue preventing Peter's recovery, changes in the Marked, and when a victim has regained control. She allocates healers, sets priorities, and organises shelter restoration with Ko and Linda. These are learned medical and command skills rather than a separate detection ability, and they remain limited by incomplete information—as shown by her early stray-beast theory and failed containment assumptions. Relationships

• Paul: Paul is Hayley's father and the head general whose influence shadows her military rank. His attempt to protect her through silence causes deep hurt; after his death, Hayley chooses transformation to understand and continue the path he took. (Chapters 48, 753–754, and 1470–1485)
