Fred

Fred is a vampire student who guides Logan, Vorden, and Cia through the settlement school while they pose as members of the Tenth Family. His practical help and knowledge of school politics let the infiltrators maintain their cover and learn why the leaderless family is marginalised. (Chapters 399–421)

Biography

Guiding the late arrivals

Fred and Snow encounter the disguised group in the forest and urge them toward school before they are late. Although the route includes a detour through the hunting area, Fred continues guiding them and later recognises them when they finally reach class. His help is casual rather than part of any known official assignment. (Chapters 399–401)

In class, Fred quietly explains customs the newcomers missed, including the gifts male students prepared for Silver. When they claim to be from the Tenth Family, he promises that others will look after them and voluntarily swaps groups to work beside them during practical training. (Chapters 402–403)

Explaining the Tenth Family's position

Fred demonstrates precise fingernail hardening during the blood-control exercise and encourages Timmy after another student mocks him. Asked why the Tenth is treated poorly, Fred explains that it has no active leader or knights and that students left unselected by stronger families are associated with it. He carefully presents the leader's fate as contradictory rumours rather than fact. (Chapter 404)

His information gives Logan the political context needed to understand the empty castle and helps the infiltrators excuse their own weak practical performance. Fred then escorts them to the canteen, explains blood packets and hostility toward the Thirteenth Family, and stays with them because he feels sympathy for students who are socially shunned. (Chapters 404–405 and 409)

Witnessing school conflict

Fred avoids intervening when Xander threatens a Thirteenth Family student, exposing the limits of his willingness to confront stronger pupils even though he dislikes the scene. He later reacts with shock to Fex's announced public execution and explains that Silver's distress comes from her brother's sentence. (Chapters 408 and 421)

Fred is alive at this final appearance. The corpus does not identify his own family, later initiation, occupation, response to the interrupted execution, or eventual fate. (Chapter 421)

Appearance and personality

Fred is a black-skinned boy with a crew cut and appears around the same age as the other students. No eye colour, height, uniform details, family marks, or later adult appearance is given. (Chapter 399)

He is friendly, socially informed, sympathetic, and mildly playful. Fred helps outsiders without demanding repayment and chooses to include marginalised students, but he also follows the settlement's hierarchies closely and walks away from a confrontation with the powerful Xander. (Chapters 399–408)

Powers and abilities

Vampire physiology and blood control

Fred has ordinary vampire strength, speed, senses, healing, blood needs, and saliva-assisted recovery. During Silver's lesson he hardens and slightly extends a fingernail, then makes a clean incision in a training dummy. His parents taught him the technique before school, allowing him to perform it confidently and coach Timmy. (Chapter 404)

The corpus does not show Fred using blood bullets, blood slashes, a family ability, Qi, a soul weapon, or combat transformation. His physiology is never tested in battle, and no later progression or measured rank is supplied. (Chapters 399–421)

Settlement knowledge

Fred knows routes through the forest, school customs, blood-feeding routines, family discrimination, and common political rumours. This knowledge helps the disguised group avoid obvious mistakes, though Fred explicitly admits that his parents do not tell him the full truth about the missing Tenth leader. (Chapters 399–405 and 409)
