Cia

Cia is a Pure operative whose friendship with Layla becomes genuine despite beginning as an assignment. After Quinn erases her memories to protect the group's secrets and later turns her into a Banshee, Cia struggles to recover an identity she can no longer remember; she ultimately accepts a foreseen death to save Layla from Cindy. (Chapters 220–287, 343–409, 738–768, and 889–897)

Biography

A Pure Assignment Becoming Friendship

Cia first appears as Layla and Erin's sharp-tongued roommate, confident enough to needle strangers and openly judge the academy's cover story about Pure. She joins Quinn's portal team after several former teammates are exposed as Pure members. Although frightened by the expedition's king-tier beast, she acts when ordered, using spirit spears to slow and weaken it. She also recognises that Quinn and the others are hiding extraordinary abilities but chooses not to expose them to the travellers who rescue the group, repaying Quinn and Logan for saving her. (Chapters 220–224 and 238–263)

Cia is herself a Pure agent assigned to observe Layla. Her initial friendliness is partly a persona and she resents Quinn for competing for Layla's trust, yet everyday companionship changes the assignment into her first real friendship. By the tournament period she keeps the group's secret and fills some of the absence left by Erin, even though neither Layla nor Cia yet admits how much they depend on the relationship. Memory Loss and the Search for Identity

When Cia learns too much about vampires, Quinn uses influence to erase her memories rather than kill her. The act removes far more than the immediate secret: Cia no longer knows her name, family, or Pure training and changes from cocky confidence into a frightened, uncertain person. She suspects that a vampire caused the loss and identifies Quinn as the likely person responsible, but still enters the vampire world with the group because recovering her past becomes the clearest goal she has. Her missing identity makes Cia vulnerable to every institution offering answers. She follows Layla back into Pure, partly for safety and partly because the organisation may know who she was, but gradually concludes that forgetting Pure might have spared her from a life she no longer endorses. After Layla leaves and her mother dies, Cia returns to the Cursed faction; Quinn brings her on the demon-tier hunt and toward the vampire settlement because her Banshee powers may warn the family of danger and because vampires may be able to restore her memories. Restored Memories and Cindy's Manipulation

Cindy restores Cia's past by reversing Quinn's mental intervention, but uses that apparent help to draw information from her. Cia reveals the existence of Blood Fairy weapons and details learned from Layla, helping Cindy frame Quinn and escalate the assault on the tenth family. Cia stops reporting when she recognises that Cindy is manipulating events, yet believes the damage is already done. Her guilt is intensified by the knowledge that her desire for answers has endangered the people who accepted her after the memory loss. (Chapters 850–882 and 890–891)

When fighting begins, Cia follows a vision that Erin needs help and brings Layla across the battlefield. She uses her Blood Fairy whip to protect her friend but is shaken by the suffering it causes, because she joined Pure after her parents died in war and believed it offered peace. Cindy exposes Cia's disclosures in front of the group; instead of fleeing the resulting anger, Cia acknowledges her regret and remains beside Layla. (Chapters 889–891)

A Foreseen Sacrifice

Cia's final vision shows her taking a fatal attack meant for Layla. When Cindy bends a blood swipe around Erin, Cia intervenes despite already knowing the outcome and is cut nearly in half. She accepts the death because Layla is the person she truly cares about and regards saving her best friend as a meaningful choice after the harm caused by her earlier decisions. Layla cannot heal the wound and the tenth family burns Cia's body with the other dead. (Chapters 891 and 894–897)

Her death remains one of Layla's deepest sources of grief and later helps trigger Layla's stronger transformations. In the mist surrounding Quinn's dead, Cia confronts Quinn with the terror of living without a past, then softens when he tells her that Layla survived and built a family. She takes his hand so he can endure the pain of her death and move forward, closing their relationship with both accusation and forgiveness rather than erasing the wrong done to her. Appearance and personality

Cia has short black hair with a fringe that nearly covers her right eye. Before losing her memories she is flirtatious, sarcastic, cocky, and trained to read people; afterwards she becomes visibly more fearful and dependent, especially in unfamiliar environments. Her underlying qualities persist across both identities: she is observant, dislikes violence, feels guilt intensely, and values returned favours. Her jealousy over Layla contributes to grave mistakes, but her final decision shows that the friendship begun under false pretences became the most sincere part of her life. Powers and abilities

Cia's capabilities change after Quinn's blood ritual. Her original spirit-spear ability is a ranged weakening technique; as a Banshee she gains a sonic scream and uncertain visions of possible futures, while retaining ordinary vampire-subclass physical advantages. Spirit spears

Cia creates and throws spiritual spears that lodge in a target and reduce its strength and speed. Multiple spears stack: two hits against a beast reduce both attributes by twenty percent, implying ten percent from each demonstrated strike. The spears are support weapons rather than decisive damage against a king-tier beast, and fear or an enemy's speed can make it difficult for Cia to place them effectively. (Chapters 238–250)

Banshee transformation and scream

Quinn's blood ritual turns Cia into a Banshee. The subclass gives her a powerful scream that functions as a large sonar-like attack, and Quinn treats the scream as a possible warning when someone close to the Cursed family is endangered. The attack can be sustained or released in shorter bursts, but its precise range, cost, and relationship to her emotional state are not fully explained. (Chapters 768, 810, 1076, and 2472)

Prophetic visions

Through first physical contact with a person, Cia can receive one possible glimpse of that person's future. She cannot choose what event is shown, how far ahead it occurs, or guarantee that a vision will appear; the first-touch opportunity cannot simply be repeated. She foresees Quinn fighting Layla's mother, Cindy's death at Quinn's hands, Erin needing help, and her own sacrifice. The visions are warnings rather than fixed instructions—intervention changes some surrounding circumstances—but Cia deliberately fulfils the last because it saves Layla. Pure training and weapon use

Pure trains Cia as an observer rather than a frontline fighter because she dislikes combat. She can maintain a cover identity, read behaviour, gather information, and use a spear or whip under pressure. Her Blood Fairy whip cuts vampires and leaves burning wounds that interfere with ordinary recovery, but it is equipment-derived and its violence visibly unsettles her. Relationships

• Layla: Cia is assigned to watch Layla and initially pretends to be her friend, but the relationship becomes genuine and central to both women. Cia dies saving Layla, whose grief and later power repeatedly draw on that loss. (Chapters 220–287, 738–756, 889–897, and 1301)
• Quinn: Quinn saves Cia but also destroys her identity by erasing her memories. She resents him even while remaining with his faction; their final encounter acknowledges his guilt and her pain before she helps him continue. (Chapters 263, 343–409, 826, and 2472)
• Cindy: Cindy restores Cia's memories and exploits her gratitude and desperation for information. Cia withdraws cooperation after sensing manipulation, but Cindy exposes her and kills her while attacking Layla. (Chapters 850–891)
• Erin: Erin begins as Cia's roommate and later fights beside her. Their relationship is strained when Cindy reveals Cia's disclosures, leaving Erin to regret that her last words before Cia's death were accusatory. (Chapters 220, 287, and 889–895)
