Clark
Clark Talon is the vampire knight of the fourth family under Jin Talon. Assigned to train young vampires in familiars, he becomes one of Quinn's first serious vampire-world opponents, then revises his testimony during Quinn's trial and quietly withholds a theory that could endanger him. (Chapters 414–519)
Biography
Teaching the fourth family's descendants
Clark introduces himself as the fourth family's vampire knight and explains that his family is responsible for that year's descendant training. He chooses familiar instruction, teaching that a summoning mat uses a vampire's blood and desires to attract a creature from another world, while also reassuring students who lack strong familiars that they can still advance through their own skills. This combination of authority and restraint makes him a demanding but considerate instructor. (Chapter 414)
He recognises the unusual closed form of Quinn's familiar when less experienced students do not, yet does not publicly expose what he knows. Clark instead calls Quinn special and continues the class. The scene establishes that his familiar expertise extends beyond ritual procedure to identifying historically significant forms, although the corpus does not disclose the full limits of that knowledge. (Chapter 414)
Duty against Quinn
After vampire descendants are killed on the training planet, Clark moves to arrest Quinn. He says he would not choose the fight personally but must act as a vampire knight, and initially assumes his superior rank will decide it. Quinn's speed, blood techniques, and shadow force Clark to escalate from ordinary strikes to a Blood Swipe barrage, his raven familiar, and the fourth family's explosive-blood ability. (Chapters 425–426)
Quinn nevertheless defeats Clark while still classified as a basic vampire, leaving him severely injured rather than dead. Rokene, who regards Clark as a favourite teacher, gives him a blood pack and restores his mobility. Clark cancels the test, summons his raven to guide the students back, and reports the possible return of a Punisher because Quinn's victory over a knight and shadow power make the incident larger than the descendants' deaths alone. (Chapters 430–432)
Revising the trial record
Clark initially supplies the council with an accusation against Quinn, but later changes it to a more exact account. At the trial he admits he never personally saw Quinn kill the descendants and can only testify to their fight. The revision makes the evidence more favourable to Quinn and separates Clark's assumption from what he actually witnessed, marking a shift from automatic institutional suspicion toward evidentiary fairness. (Chapter 495)
When the council later discusses how humans reached the vampire world, Clark realises that Quinn took a portable teleporter from his base and privately develops a plausible route. He remains silent because it is still only a theory. Clark is alive at this last confirmed appearance; later occurrences of “Clark” in the corpus refer to Jessica Clark and cannot establish Clark Talon's later status. (Chapter 519; Chapters 1576, 1649, and 2330–2335)
Appearance and personality
The corpus gives Clark a loud, booming voice but no reliable description of his height, hair, eyes, clothing, or apparent age. His raven is a separate familiar rather than part of his body. (Chapter 414; Chapter 425)
Clark is dutiful and initially places vampire law above personal preference, but he is not gratuitously cruel. He treats students as equals, avoids embarrassing those whose familiars are weak, and inspires Rokene's trust. His later correction of his testimony and silence about an unproven teleporter theory show a growing willingness to distinguish obligation from unsupported accusation. (Chapters 414, 425, 431, 495, and 519)
Powers and abilities
Vampire physiology and blood techniques
As a vampire knight, Clark has speed, strength, reactions, and durability well above ordinary vampires and vampire nobles. He matches Quinn's initial Blood Swipes and uses Blood Swipe Barrage, producing numerous smaller sickle-shaped blood attacks through rapid two-handed motions. These attacks can be intercepted or redirected, and Quinn's unusual physical statistics and shadow make Clark's rank advantage insufficient. (Chapters 425–426 and 431)
Blood restores Clark after Quinn leaves him unable to move: consuming a blood pack rapidly returns his mobility. This establishes vampire recovery rather than invulnerability, since he remains incapacitated until he feeds. The corpus does not state his blood capacity, healing ceiling, or any lasting injury from the fight. (Chapters 430–431)
Explosive blood
Clark possesses the fourth family's explosive-blood ability, later confirmed when Quinn identifies Jin as having the same family power. Clark cuts his palms, scatters or compresses his blood, and uses the spoken trigger “Click” to detonate it; more blood and greater ability power produce larger explosions. A confined battlefield improves his chance of hitting the target but also requires care not to catch himself in the blast. Quinn counters by blocking with shadow or leaving the blast's position through Shadow Hop. The corpus does not supply Clark's ability level, acquisition history, or maximum safe output. (Chapters 425–426 and 438)
Repeated family and council evidence identifies Clark with Jin and the fourth family. One emergency report in Chapter 431 calls him a knight of the fifth family, but this conflicts with Clark's own introduction and the council roster; it is therefore an unresolved textual inconsistency, not evidence of a transfer. (Chapters 414, 431, and 465)
Raven familiar and instruction
Clark's contracted familiar is a raven that can fly at high speed, enlarge and harden its claws, and attack an exposed opponent while Clark fights from another angle. He can also summon or direct it to act as a guide for returning students. Quinn's shadow restrains the raven during their fight, demonstrating that it can be neutralised independently of Clark. (Chapters 425–426 and 431)
As an instructor, Clark operates the blood-based familiar summoning mat, interprets closed forms, and teaches students to summon contracted creatures. A vampire cannot choose which creature answers the ritual, and Clark stresses that a familiar is supplementary rather than required for advancement. These are documented rules he teaches; the corpus does not establish that he created the ritual or can control another vampire's familiar. (Chapter 414)
Relationships
- Jin: Jin is the fourth-family leader whom Clark serves as vampire knight. They share the Talon family's explosive-blood ability and jointly revise the record used at Quinn's trial.
- Quinn: Clark tries to arrest Quinn out of duty and is defeated. He later limits his testimony to what he witnessed and withholds an unconfirmed theory that could implicate Quinn's teleporter.
- Rokene: Rokene considers Clark his favourite teacher because Clark treats him as an equal. He uses a blood pack to save Clark after Quinn's victory.
- Vampire descendants: Clark is assigned to train the descendants and prioritises their safe return once the test becomes dangerous.
Items
No manifest-configured inventory item is assigned to Clark. His summoning mat is instructional equipment, while the raven is a contracted familiar rather than an item.
