Andrew
Andrew is a master forger who helped create Oscar's demon-tier weapon and becomes Alex's mentor and collaborator. After sacrificing himself to protect Alex during a Dalki attack, he is converted into a Blood fairy and continues producing equipment for the human war effort until enemy forces later kill him off-page. (Chapters 1100–1216, 1264–1487, and 1705)
Biography
Mentoring Alex through demon-tier forging
Andrew accepts an invitation to help Alex turn Quinn's rare crystals into demon- and demi-god-tier equipment. The opportunity to work on material of that quality matters enough that he says he might have paid for it himself, and he uses the collaboration to teach rather than displace the younger craftsman. Alex credits Andrew with improving his crystal judgment and regards him as the first teacher to praise his talent sincerely. Together they complete equipment faster than Alex could alone while Andrew also presses the Cursed faction to consider the wartime crystal shortage affecting every human group. (Chapters 1100–1102)
Sacrifice, conversion, and continued service
When Dalki breach the forging room, Andrew throws a forging hammer hard enough to drive several attackers back and tells Alex to protect the newly completed amulet. He then takes attacks meant for his student and urges him to live and place the item in the right hands. Alex refuses to let that sacrifice become Andrew's death and performs a blood ritual while Andrew is too badly wounded to consent or refuse. The ritual heals him by turning him into a Blood fairy, giving him large red wings and leaving him curious about what his new body means. Andrew insists on remaining beside Alex during the immediate evacuation rather than separating from him. (Chapters 1209–1216)
Andrew resumes his craft after the conversion. He and Alex present completed equipment to Cursed allies, then travel to an Earthborn base to make weapons for the approaching battles. Andrew is later counted among the Cursed faction's two main forgers, showing that his relationship with the group continued beyond the emergency that transformed him. Chapter 1705 reports that Andrew was killed by enemy forces; it does not show the attack or identify the individual responsible, so the exact time and circumstances of his death remain unresolved. (Chapters 1264–1310, 1411, 1487, and 1705)
Appearance and personality
Andrew is a very large, muscular man with a bushy beard and hands that are rough from forging but capable of delicate work. After conversion, his red blood-like wings are about twice the size of Alex's, proportionate to his much larger body. He is respectful, enthusiastic about difficult craft, generous in recognising Alex's talent, and protective enough to accept mortal wounds so his student and their work can survive. (Chapters 1100, 1209–1210, and 1215)
Powers and abilities
Master forging
Andrew is described as the only known crafter at the time to have made a demon-tier weapon, having worked on Oscar's personal weapon. He can mould rare material, perform precise finishing work despite his size, assess crystal quality, and shorten the time needed for Alex's high-tier projects. His contribution is collaborative: the corpus credits both forgers for later creations and does not assign every design decision to Andrew alone. His ability also depends on scarce crystals, tools, time, and the survival of the workshop. (Chapters 1100–1102, 1209, 1269–1270, and 1281–1310)
Subconscious Qi and combat strength
Quinn senses a large quantity of Qi in Andrew and interprets him as one of the people who wield it subconsciously without formal instruction, a trait associated with activating beast-gear skills. During the Dalki breach, Andrew's glowing hand launches a forging hammer strongly and accurately enough to knock three attackers backwards. He is formidable for a forger but explicitly not a top-class traveller, and multiple Dalki overwhelm and mortally wound him. (Chapters 1100 and 1209–1210)
Blood fairy physiology
Alex's blood ritual converts Andrew into the Blood fairy subclass, closes wounds that were otherwise fatal, gives him glowing red eyes during the change, and produces large red wings. Andrew accompanies a Cursed operation soon afterward and can presumably use the wings for movement, but the corpus does not give him a distinct Blood-fairy combat demonstration or explain his long-term blood requirements. His later death confirms that the transformation did not make him invulnerable. (Chapters 1210, 1215–1216, and 1705)
Relationships
- Alex: Andrew becomes Alex's first genuine forging mentor, praises his talent, and sacrifices himself to keep him and the completed amulet alive. Alex answers by converting Andrew and later continues working beside him. (Chapters 1100–1102 and 1209–1310)
- Quinn: Andrew helps create Quinn's highest-tier equipment and later becomes one of the Cursed faction's principal forgers. Quinn respects his skill and accepts Alex's decision to save him. (Chapters 1100–1102, 1215, and 1487)
- Oscar: Andrew's reputation rests partly on having worked on Oscar's demon-tier weapon before his collaboration with the Cursed faction. The corpus does not develop a personal relationship between them. (Chapters 1100 and 1209)
