Steward Zhao
Steward Zhao is Liuli Island's sharp-eyed financial steward, a mortal administrator whose ability to recognize lies gives him unusual influence over registration and expeditionary commerce.
Biography
Registering on Liuli Island
Steward Zhao first scrutinizes Li Fan's refugee group during registration, immediately noticing that the supposed disaster victims carry the bearing of higher status. When Li Fan later asks for a scarce expedition-fleet place, Zhao challenges him to prove that the arrangement can produce profit rather than relying on sympathy. The negotiation eventually places Li Fan aboard Zhao's Cangyuan and begins the sea voyage that transforms his local reputation. Zhao later maintains a memorial for He Zhenghao, showing personal respect for the island's absent immortal guardian. His truth-sensing advantage is not absolute: once Li Fan acquires a countering mental trait, a disguise and false story leave Zhao shocked and deceived. (Chapters 23–32, 95–96, and 201)
Appearance and personality
Steward Zhao appears fifty to sixty years old, somewhat aged but with exceptionally sharp eyes. He is skeptical, commercially practical, and difficult to flatter, yet not without loyalty: his memorial observance for He Zhenghao goes beyond routine island accounting. (Chapters 23, 27, and 95–96)
Abilities and cultivation
Truth and lie perception
Zhao can ordinarily see through lies, an extraordinary mortal gift valuable in finance and administration. The ability fails against Li Fan after a later mind-related development, proving that it is a discernment talent rather than universal omniscience. (Chapters 31 and 201)
Island administration
He controls financial decisions and scarce expedition-fleet places on Liuli Island. This authority derives from office and ownership arrangements, not from cultivation. (Chapters 23–30)
