Mr. Wood

Mr. Wood is a Lingering Spirit with bark-like skin who tried to protect Ying Tong and later joined the House of Horrors.

Biography

Narrative role

Ying Tong remembers Mr. Wood as a nearly silent adult whose hard, bark-like skin made him distinctive. Though other people regarded him as stubborn and dull, he recognized the truth surrounding Ying Chen and chose to help because he was concerned for the blind child. That decision made him one of Ying Chen's victims and left his spirit imprisoned in a Ghost Fetus mud statuette. (Chapters 1058–1065)

Mr. Wood's spirit joins the other victims during the confrontation with Ying Chen and helps the effort to protect Ying Tong. Chen Ge later releases him from the statuette and takes him into the comic. The black phone classifies him as a Lingering Spirit, after which he becomes part of the House's supernatural staff and scenarios. (Chapters 1065–1067, 1114–1134)

Appearance and personality

Mr. Wood has unusually hard skin resembling tree bark and speaks very little. He appears intimidated by Miss Dress's temper, yet his quiet manner should not be mistaken for passivity: once he learns the truth, stubborn concern for Ying Tong outweighs the danger to himself. (Chapters 1058, 1067)

Skills and supernatural abilities

As a Lingering Spirit, Mr. Wood can manifest, cooperate with other ghosts, and work inside the House's supernatural scenarios. His bark-like body suggests unusual toughness, but no formal defensive mechanism or higher spectral rank is established. (Chapters 1058, 1065–1067)

Relationships

Ying Tong is the child Mr. Wood chose to help. Miss Dress and Miss Red are fellow victims and House employees; Ying Chen murders and imprisons them, while Chen Ge frees their spirits and gives them a new home. (Chapters 1058–1067)
