Mr. Bai

Mr. Bai is a pale, anxious teacher on the eastern campus of the School of the Afterlife who guards Class D and obsessively maintains its headcount.

Biography

Narrative role

Mr. Bai patrols the eastern campus with files in hand, counting Class D's students and warning them not to upset the school's balance. He treats even a small discrepancy as a serious breach, confronts Chen Ge when the outsider disrupts his routine, and uses rules and suspicion to keep pupils within the boundaries assigned to them. His fear suggests that the count protects more than classroom order. (Chapters 763–780, 788, 791–792)

From Chapter 793 onward, Chen Ge uses Mr. Bai's identity to enter and operate on the western campus. The club recruitment, confrontations, and alliances performed under that name belong to Chen, not to the original teacher. Mr. Bai's own fate after the impersonation is not shown, so those later deeds cannot establish his survival, loyalties, or development. (Chapters 793–834)

Appearance and personality

Mr. Bai is a pale, nervous man usually seen carrying files. He is controlling, suspicious, and preoccupied with exact numbers, but that rigidity grows from genuine fear of what an imbalance in the supernatural school might unleash. (Chapters 763–780, 788, 791–792)

Skills and supernatural abilities

He knows the eastern campus's rules, patrol routes, and class boundaries, and he may be able to perceive when the school's population is out of balance. The precise nature of that perception and whether he is himself a ghost are not conclusively established. (Chapters 763–780, 788, 791–792)

Relationships

Chen Ge confronts Mr. Bai and then appropriates his identity for the western-campus investigation. Wang Xiaoming is among the students shaped by the school's dangerous rules, which Mr. Bai enforces rather than challenges. (Chapters 763–793)
