Ma Yin

Ma Yin is a Jiujiang Medical University student who investigates the disappearance of her older sister with her roommate Liu Xianxian.

Biography

Narrative role

Ma Yin first visits the House of Horrors with fellow students, where Chen Ge's mention of an older sister exposes the grief she has tried to conceal. She later explains that her sister left a thirteen-second video before disappearing. Using its image of a strange statue and an old campus ghost-story post, Ma Yin and Liu Xianxian repeatedly enter an abandoned education block at night to search for answers. (Chapters 374–380)

Although frightened, Ma Yin tries to protect the smaller Liu Xianxian and pushes onward through the storerooms and underground passages. The investigation places both students in immediate supernatural danger until Chen intervenes, allowing them to survive. A different male morgue worker also named Ma Yin appears later; he is not a continuation of this student's story. (Chapters 380–389, 427–429)

Appearance and personality

Ma Yin is a tall, physically strong young woman, though strength does not make her fearless. She is blunt, loyal, and protective once she trusts someone; even while privately frightened, she positions Liu Xianxian behind her and refuses to abandon the search for her sister. (Chapters 374–381)

Skills and supernatural abilities

Her medical training lets her identify the smell of formalin and interpret signs around the abandoned morgue. She investigates carefully with her phone and screenshots, but she possesses no supernatural ability. (Chapters 379–381)

Relationships

Liu Xianxian is Ma Yin's roommate, closest friend, and only partner in the nightly search. Ma Yin's missing older sister motivates the investigation, while Chen Ge recognizes her distress and ultimately intervenes when the search becomes dangerous. (Chapters 374–389)

Ma Yin preserves her sister's final thirteen-second video and screenshots of the campus post on her phone. These clues direct the search toward the statue and abandoned education block. (Chapters 378–380)
