Bei Ye

Bei Ye is the violent elder twin of Bei Wen. He becomes trapped in Li Wan City, escapes beside Jia Ming, and later serves as one of the fugitives protecting a child connected to the Ghost Fetus.

Biography

Li Wan City and alliance with Jia Ming

Before Bei Ye is encountered directly, classmates describe an angry boy who resented his quieter, more successful twin and lured other students toward the hearse after midnight. In Li Wan City, Chen Ge identifies him through Bei Wen's glasses and recognizes that he is not an innocent passenger. Bei Ye reluctantly travels with the hotel group, then escapes the collapsing door-world with Jia Ming. He joins Jia Ming because the fugitive understands the Shadow's secrets, carrying a knife and accepting violence as the price of pursuing the Ghost Fetus's chosen children. (Chapters 619, 654–678)

The police later establish that Bei Ye killed his father and younger brother while his mother accepted punishment for him. He and Jia Ming remain in Jiujiang to protect and exploit Zhen Zhen, whose connection to the Ghost Fetus lets them search the dreams of other chosen children. Jia Ming ultimately uses Bei Ye and the child's parents as bait during a police raid. Bei Ye kills Zhen Chun and is shot dead at the scene, buying Jia Ming and Zhen Zhen time to escape. Appearance and personality

Bei Ye is a high-school-aged young man who resembles his twin brother, although their temperaments are opposite. He is easily angered, isolated, cruel, and capable of murder against his own family. His cooperation with others is transactional: he follows people who possess information he wants and turns to a knife when intimidation or escape appears more useful than loyalty. Skills and supernatural abilities

Bei Ye has no confirmed supernatural rank. He survives inside Li Wan City's door-world, understands some of the Shadow's plans, and participates in locating children chosen by the Ghost Fetus, but Zhen Zhen supplies the dream-related power. Bei Ye's own demonstrated assets are nerve, violence, secrecy, and a willingness to exploit supernatural circumstances. (Chapters 656–678, 991–1052)

• Bei Wen: Bei Ye's younger twin and the object of his resentment. Police records later identify Bei Ye as Bei Wen's killer. (Chapters 619, 991)
