Serena
Serena is the heiress who survives a Spectre plot against White Jade Kingdom, recovers her divided soul with Zhang Yang's help, and turns that rescue into a campaign to reunify the human kingdoms. Her progress from imprisoned princess to Ascended-tier queen makes her both Zhang Yang's most consequential NPC patron and the military center of the White Jade Empire. (Chapters 216–235, 323, 461, 474, 480–486, 747–755, and 827)
Biography
Captivity, Restoration, and the Meteor Sword
Three years before Serena contacts Zhang Yang, she commands an expedition against Tukula Fortress and accepts an apparent alliance proposed by the Madala Centaurs. The offer is a Spectre trap: she is ambushed at the meeting site, captured, sealed in the Tomb of the Gray Shadow, and deprived of half her soul. Her captors use the stolen half to sustain Witch Spectre Angelina's imitation of her at White Jade Castle, placing both Serena's inheritance and the kingdom under covert Spectre control. Unable to leave, Serena spends part of her remaining magic creating a Communication Stone and projecting a plea for a warrior to find her. (Chapters 216–218)
Serena's immediate goal is not simply escape but recovery of the soul that makes the imposture possible. She directs Zhang Yang to obtain three boss materials, uses them to make a Soul Container, and teaches him the incantation needed to separate her soul from Angelina. Her freed soul fights beside Zhang Yang's party, but its unstable projection fades further whenever it uses its strongest attacks. After Angelina falls, the soul enters the container, which Zhang Yang must carry back through a kingdom that now regards him as Serena's murderer; reuniting it with Serena's sealed body restores her as a Holy-tier humanoid. (Chapters 218, 230, and 233)
Once restored, Serena personally returns to White Jade Castle with Zhang Yang. She protects him from the players pursuing the royal bounty, orders her own soldiers to stand down, and confronts King Derick with the truth: the supposed princess in the palace was an undead impersonator maintained by half of Serena's soul. The corpse's collapse into its undisguised form confirms her account, clears Zhang Yang's name, and returns Serena to her father. Her gratitude is practical as well as ceremonial—she recognizes him as the warrior who saved both her and the succession, establishing the trust on which her later main-story commissions depend. (Chapters 233–235)
Restoration does not satisfy Serena's political ambitions. She wants the defensive White Jade Kingdom to expand beyond its fortress and ultimately restore the fallen Imperial Heaven's Empire, but Derick refuses to commit the army while she remains only the heir. Serena therefore entrusts Zhang Yang with a mission she has prepared for seven years: locate the descendants of the empire's seven generals, assemble their dimensional key, enter the vanished imperial palace, and recover the Celestial-tier Meteor Sword. She cannot openly support the mission against her father's command, so she gives Zhang Yang her intelligence on the descendants and sends him to act alone before rival kingdoms find the weapon. (Chapter 323)
When Zhang Yang returns with the Meteor Sword, Serena's long preparation immediately changes her status and power. The sword's ethereal green dragon answers her, she gains thirty levels and advances from Holy to Ascended tier, and the system identifies her as its true wielder. Derick subsequently abdicates in her favor. As queen, Serena appoints Zhang Yang War General, leads roughly five million soldiers and twelve dragon riders against Emerald Kingdom, defeats King Moucander with Zhang Yang's intervention at the final blow, and absorbs the conquered realm. She continues through the remaining kingdoms until all eight Chinese main cities stand under her empire, then turns her expansion toward the Chaos Realm. (Chapters 461, 474, and 480–486)
Imperial Expansion and the Spectre War
Serena governs the enlarged empire through delegated but centralized authority. Rockovich states that he is opening a route to the Chaos Realm under her orders, and he reports emergencies back to her while mobilizing imperial troops. The seven conquered capitals retain their palaces but are administered by barons or stewards rather than independent monarchs; White Jade Castle remains the sole royal seat. This structure extends Serena's reach across the region while making the survival of her appointees decisive to the main cities they govern. (Chapters 534, 567, 574, 640, and 827)
That expansion is tested when Angus, Lord of the Seven Spectre Kings, invades. Serena personally leaves White Jade Castle, transforms her royal gown into battle armor, and confronts the Celestial-tier boss with the Meteor Sword. Her Holy attacks exploit the Spectres' elemental weakness and inflict millions of damage, but Angus restores enormous amounts of health from every nearby death. Players who ignore the mechanic continually replenish him, and the imperial soldiers who rush to protect their weakening queen become additional victims. When Serena falls to one percent health, the Meteor Sword shields her; she orders a retreat, cuts open a spatial passage, and escapes to recuperate while the Spectres overrun most of the region. (Chapters 747–748)
Serena returns for China's counterattack with the seven Ascended-tier barons and the imperial army. Zhang Yang adds Merlinda, whose Higher Regeneration affects Serena and the other principal combatants, allowing them to survive Angus's repeated area attacks far longer than they could in the first battle. Serena accepts the unfamiliar healer as Zhang Yang's ally and immediately proposes bringing her into the empire's service, revealing that even during an existential battle she evaluates new strength in terms of imperial consolidation. Together, Serena, the barons, Merlinda, and Zhang Yang turn a previously unwinnable encounter into a sustained assault. (Chapters 751–753)
Serena also controls the wider battlefield rather than merely dueling Angus. She orders imperial soldiers to drive unaffiliated players one kilometer away so their deaths cannot heal him, and her troops enforce that perimeter. When Liu Wei breaks through to sabotage the fight, she kills him before Angus can claim the restorative benefit. Serena then beheads Angus, protects Zhang Yang from players trying to seize the drops, and escorts him to safety before the imperial spellcasters open a portal home. Two days after the victory, the seven occupied main cities and the player territories return to White Jade rule. (Chapters 753–756)
At the latest documented stage, Serena remains alive and rules the same eight-city empire. The demonic invasion still threatens those cities, and the system treats the survival of each appointed baron as the condition for the corresponding city to endure, but no later chapter reverses Serena's unification or removes her from White Jade Castle. Her last established position is therefore not merely that of a powerful quest patron, but of the sovereign whose earlier ambitions have become the region's governing order. (Chapter 827)
Appearance and personality
Serena's projection appears as a beautiful young woman with blond hair, ruby-red eyes, and a flamboyant royal gown that seems made for her. The text repeatedly calls her features elegant and her hands fair; after she receives the Meteor Sword, her armor becomes still grander. In the battle with Angus, her royal gown can transform directly into combat gear, and she later fights with her hair exposed to the force of the boss's death. No exact height or age is given. (Chapters 216, 218, 234, 461, 747, and 754)
Her behavior combines duty, ambition, gratitude, and ruthlessness toward enemies. Captivity leaves her desperate for the kingdom yet controlled enough to design a rescue through projections and quest materials. Restored to power, she is formal with soldiers, warm toward Zhang Yang, openly frustrated by her father's defensive policy, and determined to rebuild an empire under her own command. She remains stoic when Angus appears likely to defeat her and treats Spectres as an existential enemy, but her protectiveness is selective: those she identifies as traitors or threats to Zhang Yang receive immediate lethal force. (Chapters 216–218, 233–235, 323, 461, 747, and 753–755)
Abilities and gameplay
Serena progresses from a magically constrained captive, through a restored Holy-tier body, to an Ascended-tier queen empowered by the Meteor Sword. Her documented kit combines soul projection, crafting magic, large-scale Holy sword techniques, barriers, movement enhancement, unaided flight, spatial travel, and imperial command. Several effects are demonstrated without complete cooldown or resource descriptions; where the game does not expose those values, they remain unknown. (Chapters 216–218, 230, 233–234, 461, 485, and 747–755)
Soul projection and restorative magic
While sealed, Serena can place part of her remaining magic in a Communication Stone and manifest a life-sized projection through it. Both the stone's stored magic and Serena's projected consciousness are temporary: the first projection cracks apart as her power weakens, and later she warns that the seal will drag her back into sleep. She can nonetheless communicate across the tomb, explain the Spectre conspiracy, assign quests, and create a Soul Container from the Molten Core of the Flame King, Root of the Demonic Treant King, and Heart of the Winter Bear King. The container carries her recovered soul back to her body, but the materials, incantation, and Zhang Yang's transport are all required; she cannot complete the rescue alone. (Chapters 216 and 218–233)
When her stolen half is separated from Angelina, the Shadow of Serena's Soul can temporarily fight as a Holy-tier summon. It forms a light sword, inflicts roughly 200,000 damage with ordinary strikes, and uses Holy Light, Cross Soul Slash for paired blows near two million damage each. Every major release makes the shadow visibly fainter, and Serena says that using Sword of Life and Death at full force could cost twenty years of her lifespan. The exact normal cost is not quantified, but the projection shatters after defeating Angelina and must be preserved in the Soul Container. (Chapter 230)
Holy sword arts and protection
In her restored Holy-tier body, Serena can materialize a large sword and project Holy attacks across groups. Holy Light, Cross Soul Slash sends intersecting beams through clustered enemies, while Sword of Life and Death produces thousands of sword shadows and functions as a devastating area attack; its later range is large enough that players can be killed before approaching her. Her Holy attribute gives these techniques a special advantage against Spectres such as Angus. The skills remain finite rather than absolute: their effects depend on Serena's current tier and weapon, and Sword of Life and Death's 600,000-damage strike is only a minor wound to the Celestial-tier Angus. (Chapters 230, 233–235, 591, and 747)
Serena can also raise a broad barrier that completely absorbs a mass volley of spells and arrows, sheltering both herself and Zhang Yang without a visible ripple. When traveling on Zhang Yang's bear, she gathers wind around its feet and triples its movement speed. These techniques show that her magic is not limited to offense, although the corpus gives neither skill names nor cooldowns for the barrier and speed enhancement. (Chapters 233–234)
Meteor Sword and Ascended state
The Meteor Sword recognizes Serena as its true wielder. On first contact, its green dragon manifestation enters her, grants thirty levels, upgrades her from Holy to Ascended tier, and transforms her equipment; its profile says her power rivals the gods. In battle the weapon produces green dragon-shaped sword aura, destroys a castle wall, kills a giant dragon with residual force, and throws crossfire hundreds of meters around her duel with Moucander. Serena's own strength and the weapon's effects are closely coupled, so the narrative does not provide a clean numeric division between innate power and sword-derived power. (Chapters 461 and 483–485)
At Ascended tier Serena can fly without wings, change instantly from royal dress to armor, parry blows that shatter the surrounding ground, and cut space open as an escape portal. The Meteor Sword also surrounds her with an invulnerable radiance at critical health. These defenses save her from Angus but do not let her win the first encounter: his Celestial-tier damage, self-healing, and the deaths around him eventually exhaust her. With Merlinda's healing and the seven barons beside her in the rematch, Serena sustains the prolonged exchange and delivers the decapitating final strike, establishing her latest demonstrated mastery without making her independently invincible. (Chapters 747–754)
Imperial command
Serena's largest-scale resource is the White Jade Empire itself. She commands millions of soldiers, twelve dragon riders capable of destroying magic cannons and massed players, seven Ascended-tier barons, and imperial spellcasters who open military portals. Her orders carry absolute loyalty from NPC soldiers, allowing her to form exclusion zones, defend Zhang Yang during boss fights, and project policy into the Chaos Realm through officers such as Rockovich. These forces remain vulnerable to superior bosses and depend on Serena's strategic direction; when she retreats after the first Angus battle, half the army returns to defend her and the remaining territories rapidly fall. (Chapters 480–482, 534, 567, and 747–755)

Relationships
- Zhang Yang: Serena's rescuer, chosen agent, benefactor, and War General. She entrusts him with the recovery of her soul and the Meteor Sword, rewards his service with exceptional access and relationship standing, and repeatedly protects him in battles that also advance her imperial aims. (Chapters 216–235, 323, 461, 480, 485, and 753–755)
- King Derick: Serena's father and predecessor. He welcomes her after the impostor is exposed but resists her expansion and the search for the Meteor Sword; after she gains the weapon, he abdicates and she succeeds him. (Chapters 235, 323, 461, and 474)
- Angus: The Spectre sovereign who nearly kills Serena during their first confrontation. His ability to heal from surrounding deaths defeats her initial assault, but she returns with a controlled battlefield and allied healing to behead him. (Chapters 747–754)
- Merlinda: An Ascended-tier healer recruited by Zhang Yang for the Angus counterattack. Serena values her Higher Regeneration immediately and tries to retain her as an imperial asset, though Merlinda later declines Serena's palace summons. (Chapters 751–756)
- Rockovich: An imperial knight who carries out Serena's order to open a road into the Chaos Realm and reports military emergencies back to her court. (Chapters 534 and 567)
Items
- Meteor Sword: Serena's Celestial-tier signature weapon and the source of her immediate thirty-level rise to Ascended tier. It recognizes her as its true wielder, manifests a green dragon, magnifies her sword aura, protects her at critical health, and remains in her possession through the defeat of Angus. (Chapters 323, 390, 460–461, 485, and 747–754)
- Communication Stone: A magic-bearing stone Serena creates while imprisoned so that a projection can call for help. Its stored power is limited, and the projection collapses after delivering her request. (Chapter 216)
- Soul Container: A quest vessel Serena crafts from three rare boss materials. Zhang Yang uses it first to capture the stolen half of her soul and then to reunite that soul with her sealed body; its later status is not stated. (Chapters 218, 230, and 233)
