Stanwic is the elder member of a three-person hidden-church spy team sent to assess Generasi's Greymoor expedition.
Biography
Reporting from the Generasian camp
Stanwic enters the Generasian camp intent on preserving the team's cover, using subtle hand signs to correct Rioran when the younger spy draws attention. Rioran nevertheless conducts a secret solo infiltration and is caught by Cedric, reducing the whole team's freedom of action. Stanwic does not conceal the failure from their superiors: after returning through the hidden approaches to Uldar's Vale, he reports that Rioran learned valuable information at potentially great cost, then joins Catherine in giving Izas a precise account of the Generasians' demonstrations. Their trained recollection earns both senior spies rest while Rioran remains behind for judgment. (Chapters 328–336)
During the journey home, Stanwic also identifies a young aeld tree, explains its fae nature and potential benefits, and prevents his frightened companions from destroying it impulsively. He argues that the find should be referred to Izas, combining reverence for authority with knowledge that predates Uldar's arrival in Thameland. (Chapters 334–335)
Appearance and personality
Stanwic is older than Rioran by roughly a decade. He is controlled, observant, and direct, correcting mistakes without disguising them and favouring consultation over frightened destruction. His willingness to recognise an aeld tree as older than Uldar also shows a more informed, less reflexively hostile outlook than his younger companions. (Chapters 328 and 334–336)
Magic, abilities, and skills
Stanwic demonstrates covert hand signals, stealth, rapid weapon readiness, counter-surveillance, trained memory, and detailed reporting. He can identify an aeld tree, assess whether it has gathered guardians by touching the earth, and lead others through secret forest paths.
