Izas is the Third Apostle of Uldar's hidden church, serving as its second-in-command, intelligence coordinator, and guardian of the Hero cycle.

Biography

Uldar’s Apostles to A Lack of Repentance

Izas begins with genuine anxiety that the current Ravener cycle no longer matches the church's inherited expectations. The Fool is missing, the Heroes are divided, the Traveller's sanctum has appeared, and foreign wizards are studying dungeon cores. Rather than question the cycle itself, he responds by increasing surveillance: he receives reports from Eldin, dispatches trained layfolk to infiltrate the Research Castle, and interprets Generasi's curiosity as a threat to a balance the church must preserve. (Chapters 268–328)

When Rioran is caught spying, Izas uses gentleness and intimate knowledge of the young agent's training to obtain a full confession. He distinguishes magic from inherent evil and recognises that Generasi's discoveries could aid Thameland, but still orders “guidance” of the research and sends the unrepentant Rioran to a shrine where Eldin kills him. The episode defines Izas's governing method: paternal language, exact memory, secrecy, and lethal consequences concealed beneath religious procedure. (Chapters 328–336)

Searching for Inner Power to The Death of Purpose

The First Apostle calls on Izas's faith when the hidden church prepares direct action. Izas swears everything—including his name and soul—on Uldar's life, receives deeper secrets of the cycle, and supports the abduction and coercion surrounding Carey. After the church is displaced, he rebuilds its island refuge, sends agents to spread Alex's identity, and accepts the Stalker's hunt as a means of revenge. His doubts about unusual events never become moral restraint; loyalty hardens as evidence against the church's assumptions grows. (Chapters 550–665)

During Alex's attack on the hidden sanctum, Izas recoils from Asmaldestre carrying Uldar's weapons. Her shot pierces the defenders and nearly cuts him in half. Even while dying, he urges the First Apostle to save the others and flee, but Alex finishes him with a deliberately slow disintegration spell in retribution for Carey's death. He ends as dust while the surviving congregation watches, and subsequent scenes treat his death as final. (Chapters 719–768)

Appearance and personality

Izas is an elderly man with old bones, sparse white hair, and the remains of a beard. He wears white clothing and silver armour in battle. His steady face, deep eyes, and controlled voice let him appear like a kindly village elder even while frightening trained spies into confession. (Chapters 268–336 and 764)

He is devout, intelligent, observant, patient, and ruthlessly paternalistic. Izas can recognise complexity in magic and politics, but always resolves uncertainty in favour of preserving Uldar's cycle. Compassionate manners therefore coexist with espionage, manipulation, and executions he treats as sacred necessity. (Chapters 268–768)

Magic, abilities, and skills

Wizardry and divine miracles

Izas can form a fireball through a magic circuit and separately pray to Uldar for a divine flame, then twist the two fires together. The scene establishes him as both wizard and priest, able to handle mana and divinity as distinct sources. His complete spell and miracle tiers are not stated, and his final defensive protection is broken by Asmaldestre's weapon. (Chapter 268 and Chapter 764)

Intelligence and interrogation

Decades of mental training give Izas a precise memory, while long experience with the hidden order lets him anticipate the tricks of agents he helped train. He coordinates spies, assesses reports, and uses calm questioning to dismantle Rioran's attempted evasions. These skills depend on institutional reach and familiarity; Cedric's detection of the spy shows that the network is not infallible. (Chapters 311–336)

Prayer, ritual, and leadership

As Third Apostle, Izas conducts sustained prayer, receives sacred instruction through the First Apostle, and directs priests and layfolk in settlement building, wards, propaganda, and assassination planning. The authority is institutional and devotional rather than a separate unexplained supernatural compulsion over followers. (Chapters 550–665)
