Numen's Azure Shard

Numen's Azure Shard is a lustrous reward from the Index Special Act whose dormant sorcery becomes one of the two principal components in Vanitas's casting gauntlet.

History

Reward from Index

The Shard first appears among the prospective rewards associated with the dangerous Index scenario. After Vanitas survives the prison crisis and completes the act at maximum difficulty, it materializes in his palm. The Spectacles describe it as a fragment carrying ancient Numen sorcery, and its combination of stronger spell output and finer control matches his need for a medium above Master-ranked casting. (Chapters 43–51)

Roselyn's Composite Medium

Vanitas identifies Roselyn as the craftsperson capable of combining the Shard with the Ethereal Fragment. She embeds both in a black-steel gauntlet, initially producing an unnamed prototype and later refining it into Astrea AG. II. The Shard consequently ceases to be a loose reward and becomes part of a medium designed around Vanitas's mana flow and physical limitations. (Chapters 55, 80, and 90)

Abilities and properties

• It significantly strengthens spell potency and efficiency. (Chapter 51)
• It harmonizes with the wielder's mana to improve control, but is explicitly dormant when first received. (Chapter 51)
• In the composite gauntlet it works with the Ethereal Fragment; the text reports the combined device's effects without assigning every effect to one component. (Chapters 80 and 90)
