Soliette Dominique

Soliette Dominique is the current Archmage, the youngest of the Great Powers, and the standard against which modern mages measure spell mastery. Her public duties range from demonic suppression and leyline investigation to international defense, but her most consequential personal bond is with Vanitas Astrea, whom she taught as a child and repeatedly tries to protect after his return to her life. That bond ultimately forces her to confront the distance between teaching a gifted pupil and remaining responsible to a lonely child. (Chapters 49–51, 94, 119, 204, 323, and 328)

Biography

Tutor and Archmage

Soliette begins life at the Estelle orphanage, which she remembers as home even after fame and wealth give her access to every luxury. As a student she supports her education by tutoring noble children, including the seven-year-old Vanitas when she is eighteen. He stands out because he learns material almost as soon as she presents it, but later recollections emphasize something less flattering to both of them: he is guarded, lonely, and suspicious of kindness, while Soliette mistakes his competence for independence. Her rise from an unknown tutor to Continental Summit champion and then Archmage makes continued personal attention increasingly difficult. (Chapters 49, 51, 65, and 323)

Her first direct intervention in the present story joins overwhelming magical control to an older sense of responsibility. At Index she orders the critically wounded Vanitas evacuated, disassembles Mikhail's Shadow Phantasm, collapses his simultaneous ice and shadow assault, restores the prison barrier, and tries to bind him before his self-destruction. She then spends a week overseeing Vanitas's recovery and uses a grueling Sovereign-tier Aether spell to reattach his severed arm while the tissue is still viable. Becoming Archmage gives Soliette authority but also a burden she cannot set aside. At the frozen region linked to Zen's Comet, she directs investigators to search for disturbances associated with the Black Dragon and acknowledges the pressure she has carried since inheriting the title. The Hunt for Araxys

Soliette's office repeatedly sends her where ordinary institutions cannot contain the danger. At the Great Powers' gathering, Soliette does not simply defend her former pupil out of sentiment. She watches Vanitas survive their attacks by casting several spells within 0.8 seconds—faster than even she can manage—and struggles to reconcile that ability with the child she taught. Elsa's confirmation and Vanitas's reference to chimeras trigger a panicked physical response: Soliette rushes to him and demands answers instead of remaining the detached Archmage. Great Power at the End

At the Continental Summit, Soliette treats the compromised Theocracy as an international threat and helps organize the Great Powers' response. She nevertheless refuses to practice it while holding the Archmage's office, recognizing that curiosity does not erase institutional responsibility. The operation exposes the limit of technical supremacy against Fyodor Dragunov. Soliette shelters the assault team beneath a maintained dome, reinforces the ground beneath their combined attacks, destroys paladin constructs, and frees Aston, but Fyodor moves before her fastest defensive chant. She returns with hundreds and then thousands of interlocked elemental circles; he redirects or dispels each attack, breaks the sequence through her staff, and sends feedback through her mana pathways. When Araxys descends, Soliette returns first to rescue work, shielding a child from falling debris and directing civilians toward safer evacuation routes. Vanitas refuses to make her responsible for his later decisions, but the admission finally names the failure that has shadowed their relationship. Appearance and personality

Soliette has royal-blue eyes and is introduced wearing a perse-colored cloak embroidered with white patterns. She fights with a staff as her casting medium and is associated with a pointed hat at formal events, though she is not always shown wearing it. In public, Soliette is composed enough to erase a former Great Power's spell without visible strain, command military teams, and mediate peers who are close to fighting. She has mastered the established spell canon deeply enough to cast numerous Sovereign-tier spells, some in under ten seconds, and to combine offense, defense, healing, analysis, and battlefield support. Limits and latest state

Soliette still relies on a staff for her greatest spellwork and ordinarily needs chants, however brief. Vanitas surpasses her casting speed through simultaneous activation, while Fyodor outpaces her before she can defend and later destroys an interlocked formation by seizing its medium. The resulting feedback breaks her mana pathways; subsequent exertion leaves her injured, exhausted, and vulnerable to a prolonged coma. She eventually returns to large-scale casting and survives Araxys's fall, but the final spell depends on shared mana and prepared interconnection.
