Maes

Maes is the eldest of the ten Blue Wolf Tribe children taken into Cale Henituse's household. Calm and confident for his age, he acts as the children's spokesman and organizes his younger siblings as they adjust to work, training, and life under Cale's protection.

Biography

Plaza terror and the southern expedition

Twelve-year-old Maes leads the wolf children in asking Cale for work because Lark has taught them not to live at another person's expense. Although the children would prefer knight training, Cale assigns them to help Vicross with cooking and service because they are still too young for dangerous work. Maes takes the responsibility seriously, waits on Cale, supervises his siblings, and worries when he hears that Cale may have been injured. (Chapters 11–12)

Harris and supervised field training

When the group reaches the ruins of Harris Village, Maes is reminded of the wolves' own lost home. Cale promises to rebuild Harris as a place where the children can live and grow as wolves before Lark returns. Maes answers that promise by telling his siblings that they must become stronger. He later leads the children in supporting Lark's mission at Mount Yelia and joins their disciplined field training around the Dark Forest, where they are assigned to search for remains after Ohn guides them.
