Blasphemy Slate
The Blasphemy Slate refers to two ancient stone tablets that encode the twenty-two pathways of the divine in knowledge that precedes ordinary writing. The first formalized the balance of the Sequence system; the second added the ancient sun god's deductions about advancement above Sequence 0 and became the source Roselle Gustav used for the Cards of Blasphemy.
History
Two foundations of the Sequence system
The first tablet appears during the Dark Epoch, while the second appears from the ancient sun god's remains at the end of the Third Epoch. Both reveal pathway names and advancement knowledge, ending the earlier practice of blindly combining similar powers. Their information is presented in an essential form that each observer must interpret, so even a brief viewing may not be long enough to memorize one complete pathway. The second tablet passes through the gathering that later becomes the Twilight Hermit Order; Adam ultimately controls it, while Roselle studies it and derives his twenty-two cards. (Chapters 60, 428, 1011, and 1038)
The first tablet and Chaos Sea
Klein Moretti physically sees the first tablet beside Dark Angel Sasrir's remnant in the Giant King's Court. Its grayish-white stone bears words that can be understood without prior study and serves as the remnant's direct link to Chaos Sea. After Sasrir's remnant is purified, Amon releases a stolen Chaos Sea-related trait, draws the living-seeming tablet away from the True Creator's reaching shadow, and escapes with it. Amon later uses it to block the Mother Goddess of Depravity's intrusion during Mr. Door's return and then places it near the Abyss entrance in the Fog Sea. Its custody after that placement is not explicitly updated. (Chapters 1261–1265, 1353, and 1376–1377)
The second tablet and the Great Old Ones
Adam shows Klein the second tablet inside the corpse cathedral. In addition to Sequence names, formulas, and rituals, its final material identifies the sefirot, Uniquenesses, and Sequence 1 characteristics associated with the Great Old Ones. Adam uses it to enter and gain control over Chaos Sea when merging with the True Creator. Much later, Bernadette Gustav produces the same tablet as part of Adam's plan against the Uncertain Mist. Amon takes it, channels Chaos Sea through it to strike Genie and the Uncertain Mist, and retrieves it as payment after the operation. (Chapters 1345–1348, 1357, 1376, and 2314–2316)
Abilities and properties
- Both tablets encode the names, formulas, ingredients, and advancement knowledge of all twenty-two pathways. The knowledge appears in its essence rather than ordinary text and requires time and comprehension to interpret. (Chapters 60, 1038, 1261, and 2315)
- The first tablet established the Sequence system's principle of balanced, internally compatible progression, replacing dangerous attempts to accumulate merely similar abilities. Its names are ancient and later cultures translate or adapt them. (Chapters 167, 577, and 1011)
- The second tablet includes the ancient sun god's deductions about sefirot, Great Old One groupings, and advancement beyond Sequence 0. This material is not shown to have been present on the first tablet in the same explicit form. (Chapters 1345–1347)
- Both are strongly connected to Chaos Sea because of their origins. The first can maintain Sasrir's remnant through that connection; the second can act as a medium through which Adam enters or directs Chaos Sea. (Chapters 1261–1265, 1357, and 2315–2316)
- Their stone bodies can carry or channel power at divine and Outer Deity levels. Amon uses the first as a substitute barrier against cosmic intrusion and the second as the focus of a Chaos Sea attack. This does not establish that an ordinary holder can reproduce those feats without the necessary authority and status. (Chapters 1353 and 2315–2316)
- Later speculation questions whether their recorded knowledge may contain influence from the primordial God Almighty. The corpus presents this as a possibility, not a confirmed explanation for every ritual they record. (Chapters 2573–2574)
