Sharron

Sharron is a leader of the Rose School of Thought's temperance faction and a student of Reinette Tinekerr. First encountered by Klein Moretti as a hired bodyguard, she develops from a hunted Sequence 5 Wraith into the Sequence 3 Saint known as Madam Temperance, opposing the faction that embraced indulgence and the Mother Tree of Desire. Biography

A Bodyguard in Exile

Sharron enters Klein's life as the powerful but illicit Beyonder he hires to survive an assassination attempt. When Marionettist Rosago attacks, she emerges from a window's reflection and contests his control until Klein's Language of Foulness breaks the stalemate; despite being caught in the charm's backlash, she recovers, helps secure the aftermath, and removes Rosago's corpse. Her three-day contract is initially transactional, but her vigilance, discretion, and willingness to accompany Klein into the dangerous ruins beneath Williams Street establish a working trust that outlasts the job. (Chapters 250–262)

That trust becomes an alliance when Sharron and Maric reveal why they are fugitives. They had rejected the Rose School of Thought's cruel sacrifices and its doctrine of indulging desire, choosing instead to suppress desire and release it only at a decisive moment. Pursued by the rival Wraith Steve and constrained by the Scarlet Lunar Corona's artificial full moon, Sharron recruits Klein because his unusual powers can expose another Wraith; she and Maric accept the dangerous roles of first and second bait while leaving Klein as the hidden hunter. During the ensuing battle, Sharron endures both the Corona's suppression and poison, repeatedly restrains Steve, possesses his wounded body, and helps finish him. The victory removes their immediate pursuers and places the Corona in the temperance faction's hands. (Chapters 330–332 and 345–350)

The Pharaoh Mummy and Her Teacher's Return

After Klein returns to Backlund, Sharron resumes contact with him and honors their earlier understanding by exploring the ruined Williams Street site together rather than claiming its secrets alone. Their correspondence unexpectedly reunites her with Reinette Tinekerr, whom Sharron had believed lost; she later identifies Reinette as her teacher and explains that Reinette had protected the temperance faction's escape before falling under an attack by Suah and other senior enemies. Reinette's survival in a weakened spirit-world state restores the mentor at the center of Sharron's cause and gives the scattered temperance faction a living leader again. (Chapters 735–736, 751, and 1041)

Sharron then pursues the next step of her pathway. She and Maric seek the mummy of Tutanssess II, an item essential to her advancement ritual, but suspect that its military transport is also a Rose School trap. Sharron is prepared to abandon the attempt when divination exposes hidden high-level danger; after Klein devises a more indirect theft, she follows his timing, uses her Wraith mobility and staged evasions to misdirect observers, and receives the recovered mummy with precautions already prepared against its hexes. She spends the following months completing her preparations rather than rushing the ritual, and eventually reports that she has successfully advanced to Sequence 4 Puppet. War Against the Indulgence Faction

Becoming a demigod does not turn Sharron's temperance into passivity. She helps organize a joint operation with the Sanguine to trace and remove the Rose School's Backlund leadership, motivated both by the enemy's attempts to bring the Mother Tree of Desire into the world and by Reinette's need to restore her incomplete body. The initial strike exposes a contact network, but its principal target detects the danger at the last moment and leaves a corrupted crimson-moon trap behind. Sharron resists the impulse to hide where the moonlight can still reach her, contributes her spirit-world perceptions to the investigation, and accepts the failure without lashing out, instead working with Klein and Maric to infer that the trap had been meant to cleanse evidence and conceal a deeper secret. (Chapters 1041–1042 and 1057–1060)

The faction later targets Shaman King Klarman in West Balam. Sharron helps test the plan, warns that Klarman may retreat if the diversion is unconvincing, and sets an uncompromising withdrawal condition tied to Reinette's concealed state. In the battle, she possesses Klarman, accepts that allied Sun attacks may injure her more severely than him, and uses Source of Curses to turn herself into his likeness and reflect injuries onto him. She withdraws the curse when its reflected damage becomes too dangerous, then reapplies it at the decisive moment so that Emlyn White can kill Klarman. Sharron accelerates the extraction of his characteristic, keeps only the agreed spoil for her faction, and returns the rest while warning Emlyn that the characteristic remains corrupted. The operation secures one of Reinette's missing body parts and materially advances the temperance faction's restoration effort. (Chapters 1231 and 1233–1237)

Madam Temperance

Years later, Sharron operates as a temperance-faction Saint and Church of The Fool ally. While pursuing the Great Mother's servant Oxyto, she and Maric accompany Lumian Lee into the Underworld because Sharron's intuition does not register the danger that had deterred Death-pathway demigods. She locates the target near the corpse of the Phoenix Ancestor, curses and possesses Oxyto's premature child so her allies can attack, and influences corpses that threaten them. When the ancient corpse begins to awaken, Sharron risks spirit-world traversal inside the Underworld, enduring direct damage to carry Lumian toward safety; though already injured, she later possesses a goat-faced Demon long enough for him to defeat it. The mission ends with mutual respect rather than an additional debt, since each side has exceeded the original bargain. (Chapters 2203–2208)

As Madam Temperance, Sharron represents her faction at the Tarot Club and is entrusted with defending the New City of Silver and the Rorsted Archipelago. During the assault in the special mirror world, she accepts a badly mismatched battlefield against the Demoness of Black and a mirrored Angel. She tears out an eye to strengthen a banishing curse against the Angel, then uses the Box of the Great Old Ones to transport the Demoness of Black into the Underworld, exploiting her own evil-spirit state to survive where a living opponent cannot. Her victory yields the Calamity of Crimson, which she later trades for an Abomination characteristic intended to restore Reinette; the text says its separated Sequence 2 Ancient Bane characteristic is meant for Sharron, but does not state that she has advanced with it. Her latest explicit rank therefore remains Sequence 3, and she remains an active Tarot Club member after the apocalypse. (Chapters 2505, 2563–2568, 2574, 2579, 2595, and 2611)

Appearance and personality

Sharron is a young woman with pale-blonde hair, blue eyes, and delicate, exquisite features. She habitually wears a black Gothic regal dress with a small matching bonnet. As a Wraith she is extraordinarily pale and often translucent, resembling a ghost or an intricate doll; after advancing to Puppet, her complexion becomes less deathly, though she still appears anemic and doll-like. In later appearances she retains the same bonnet-and-dress silhouette. (Chapters 250–252, 706, 1041, and 2204)

Her defining discipline is temperance. Sharron speaks tersely, controls visible emotion and desire, and remains composed even when a plan fails or an enemy deliberately provokes fear. This reserve is not an absence of feeling: she asks after Klein's safety when he loses a valuable marionette, reacts strongly upon recognizing Reinette, listens attentively to Klein's travels, and repeatedly expresses thanks through formal curtsies. Her conduct also shows a strict sense of reciprocity—she keeps exploration agreements, pays or offers information for assistance, and distributes spoils according to prior terms. Pathways and abilities

Sharron follows the pathway called Mutant or Prisoner in the earlier corpus and Chained in the later corpus. Its early Sequences bind violent impulses and impose changing curses; abilities from Prisoner, Lunatic, Werewolf, and Zombie remain available after advancement. Sharron's faction treats repression and controlled release—not indulgence—as the proper response to those desires. She is introduced as a Sequence 5 Wraith, advances to Sequence 4 Puppet after using the Tutanssess II mummy in her ritual, and is explicitly a Sequence 3 Disciple of Silence by the final mirror-world campaign. Wraith state, possession, and movement

As a Wraith, Sharron can convert her body into a spirit-like state that is difficult to detect even with Spirit Vision. She can pass through walls, earth, and other obstacles; hide within mirrors; and jump between reflective surfaces. Her stated maximum Mirror Blink distance as a Sequence 5 is about three hundred meters, and laid-out mirrors can extend a planned escape route. Her state also lets her enter and move through the spirit world, obtain revelations from it, and ignore ordinary physical obstructions. In the Underworld, however, spirit-world traversal triggers hostile retaliation: reaching safety while carrying Lumian burns her spirit and forces her to stop after only a few seconds. Sharron's possession places her within a target and contests control of the body. She uses it to make Steve destroy his own head, to freeze Oxyto's child for allied attacks, and to restrain both Klarman and the goat-faced Demon. Possession is not absolute: strong targets can struggle against it, moonlight can expel her, and a specialized Puppet artifact can repel her. When she remains linked to a possessed target, indiscriminate allied attacks can also harm her, a cost she knowingly accepts when the tactical gain is sufficient. (Chapters 350, 1234, 2204, and 2207)

Wraith powers also include direct spiritual attacks, cold, and death-related effects. Sharron's shriek damages souls and can carry a curse that bursts eyes, strips feathers, and rots flesh; she can influence corpses and slow or command the dead. Her spirit state normally avoids mundane poison, but an artificial full-moon effect can prevent her from changing state and leave her vulnerable. Sun-domain purification is a particularly severe counter to her pathway, and the Wraith curse itself forces a full-moon choice between consuming human souls and becoming extremely weak; Sharron's philosophy rejects the former indulgence. Puppet and Source of Curses

At Sequence 4, Sharron can animate or control lifeless objects within her influence. During the attack on Charlie Raker, carpet binds his ankles, furniture and writing implements assault him, glass turns into projectiles, and the room helps prevent his escape. The same influence can move collapsing masonry away from an ally. This control is powerful but not unlimited: targets with suitable mystical defenses can cleanse or resist individual attacks, and Sharron still relies on isolation and coordinated pressure to prevent escape. (Chapters 1058 and 2206)

Puppet also grants Source of Curses. Sharron can transform into a mystical puppet resembling a target, establish a connection, and reproduce injuries or alterations on that target by inflicting them on the puppet form. At Sequence 4 the damage is mutually destructive, so an opponent can deliberately strike back through the link and force her to stop. By Sequence 3, ordinary use no longer harms her, although cursing an Angel still requires an extreme medium: Sharron tears out the eye reflecting Empress Roselle and sends it into the spirit world, producing a banishment-like effect and exposing the target to attacks there. Transfiguration and higher curses

As a Disciple of Silence, Sharron can use the Transfiguration Curse to turn a target into an ordinary animal and strip away most of its powers and traits. A Grade 0 Sealed Artifact does not automatically protect its bearer from this curse, and the transformation can affect a Demoness's true body and mirror self through their connection. Against a Sequence 3 caster, however, the curse targets one entity at a time, allowing sufficiently prepared enemies to hide their true body among projections; Angel-level use is described as broader and harder to evade, but Sharron does not demonstrate that rank in the supplied corpus. Her curses can be delivered through sight, reflection, voice, a prepared resemblance, or another established mystical connection. She combines them with possession and the environment rather than treating them as isolated attacks, commonly creating a brief loss of control for an ally to exploit. The corpus shows the effects and several media clearly, but does not provide a complete activation formula, maximum ordinary range, or exact cost for every curse. Perception, divination, and restraint

Sharron's proximity to the spirit world gives her strong spiritual intuition and the ability to receive revelations without a conventional ritual. She detects danger in the Williams Street ruins, reads traces left by living beings, recognizes when a target has only just escaped, and can inspect the state of the Phoenix Ancestor's corpse more safely than her companions. This perception can still be screened by sufficiently high-ranking interference, and she treats an unreadable result as a reason to withdraw rather than proof of safety. (Chapters 261–262, 735, 878, 1059–1060, and 2203)

Temperance is also central to how she fights. Sharron suppresses curiosity, panic, and malicious impulses until action is useful, then commits decisively—even accepting self-injury to maintain a curse or rescue an ally. This discipline does not negate pathway weaknesses, but it repeatedly prevents emotional or corruptive pressure from dictating her decisions. (Chapters 882, 1234–1236, 2565, and 2595)

Relationships

• Reinette Tinekerr: Sharron's teacher, protector, and the restored leader of the temperance faction. Reinette shields the faction's escape, later reunites with Sharron in a spirit-world state, and works with her to reclaim a complete body and strengthen the faction. • Maric: Sharron's closest recurring partner in exile. They share the temperance philosophy, intelligence network, pursuit by the Rose School, and a long sequence of carefully planned operations. (Chapters 330–350, 875–883, 1041–1060, and 2203–2208)
