Luo Shan — Lord of the Mysteries

Luo Shan is a colleague of Zhou Mingrui inside Klein Moretti's modern dream and the dream counterpart of the real-world Nighthawk civilian Rozanne. Initially a friendly administrative employee with secret supernatural responsibilities, she becomes one of Jenna, Franca Roland, and Anthony Reid's most important local allies. Her choice to investigate her own world ultimately helps Zhou recognize its falsehood, even though that recognition causes Luo Shan's dream self to dissolve. Biography

Role in the Central Conflict

Luo Shan meets Jenna at Intis Group, where she handles administrative work, paints as a hobby, and enthusiastically asks the supposed model for a portrait. At night, however, she guards Dechang Garden in a Shaman world overlaid on ordinary reality. Monsters gather beyond the barrier, and Luo Shan uses painted sunlight, birds, and fire to keep them out. She remains on watch not because the domain is safe but because a breach could kill residents or allow spirit-world entities to replace their souls. (Chapters 2365–2366 and 2375–2376)

Her powers come from drinks dispensed by strange vending machines. The Shaman beverage gives her a ritual domain and communication with the spirituality of sky, earth, water, trees, and living creatures. After being injured, she obtains a Reporter drink from Mushu Hospital's pharmacy; it sharpens observation, investigation, and speed but also alters her personality, filling her with hatred for the world and a desire to remake it. A hidden voice then induces her to give Zhou Mingrui an Instigator drink by promising a Painter boon. She accepts, gains Painter, and later admits the manipulation rather than concealing it from Jenna's team. (Chapters 2375–2377)

Anthony can stabilize Luo Shan and reduce the new personality's control, but he cannot remove the corruption embedded in a boon. Faced with that limit, Luo Shan chooses informed cooperation. She supplies hair and blood for a Mirror Substitution, uses Reporter senses to investigate inconsistencies around Intis Group, and gives Jenna and Franca access to her domain. Her curiosity gradually forces her to consider that the world itself is constructed; when she verifies the truth, she first rejects it as psychologically unbearable and then chooses to act despite knowing what discovery may cost her. The dream's hostile forces exploit her connection to Mushu Hospital and draw her underground with Jenna and Franca. Luo Shan is inexperienced in a direct fight against real monsters and survives a lethal attack only because the prepared Mirror Substitution takes her place. She nevertheless keeps using Reporter speed and Painter creations, helps search for an exit, and appeals to Zhou when Franca needs rescue. Her role is not that of the team's strongest combatant but of a local person who can alter the dream from within. (Chapters 2427–2433)

In the final phase, Luo Shan modifies a pocket watch and races to the high-speed rail station to warn Zhou Mingrui that the world around him is abnormal. The act exposes her directly to the dream's collapse, but succeeds in making Zhou notice the contradiction he had been trained to ignore. As structures and people dissolve, Luo Shan accepts that she belongs to the dream and asks Jenna to remember her. Later, the team visits Rozanne in the real world: Rozanne is older, has her own family and history, and is alive, but she does not inherit Luo Shan's experiences. The resemblance establishes the source of the dream identity without making the two consciousnesses interchangeable. (Chapters 2460–2461 and 2466)

Appearance and personality

Luo Shan appears to be a woman in her twenties with brown hair, a pleasant face, and an approachable manner. At work she wears a light-green dress and carries a white handbag; in private she shifts into ordinary sleepwear and casual clothes. Her visual resemblance to Rozanne is strong enough for Jenna to recognize the connection immediately outside the dream, though real Rozanne is older. (Chapters 2365–2366 and 2466)

She is sociable, artistic, curious, and quick to befriend newcomers. The Reporter corruption produces a harsher, world-hating layer of personality, but does not wholly replace her judgment. She accepts treatment, confesses her compromised actions, and repeatedly risks herself for neighbors and allies. Her final decision turns curiosity into guardianship: learning that she may be unreal does not stop her from protecting people whose lives matter to her. (Chapters 2375–2377, 2417, and 2460–2461)

Pathways and abilities

Luo Shan does not consume standard potions. She receives multiple dream-world boons through beverages: Shaman, Reporter, and Painter. These powers operate within Klein's dream and are tied to its hidden systems; the corpus does not establish that they would remain available outside it or that real-world Rozanne possesses them. Shaman domain

Shaman lets Luo Shan establish a territory through totems and ritual arrangements. Within it, she can communicate with the spirituality of natural and living things and borrow their power for spells, while also perceiving the higher spatial layer where hostile creatures gather. Moving or rebuilding the territory takes about three days, and her influence weakens with distance from it. Damage to the barrier threatens ordinary residents, making the domain both a source of power and a responsibility she cannot casually abandon. (Chapters 2366 and 2375–2376)

Reporter and Painter

Reporter grants enhanced observation, rapid investigation, truth-finding instincts, and extreme movement speed. It helps Luo Shan discover inconsistencies in the dream and reach Zhou in time to warn him. Its boon also carries severe corruption: her personality becomes more hostile, she hears a manipulative voice, and Anthony can suppress but not remove the contamination. (Chapters 2375–2377, 2417, and 2460)

Painter allows her drawings to acquire real effects. Painted sunlight and fire repel monsters, birds leave the page to act, and a drawn parrot can move and communicate. She can also use images to influence people or represent an intended route. The power depends on what she can conceive and render and does not substitute for combat experience; when directly surprised by a monster, she needs an ally's Mirror Substitution to survive. Relationships

Jenna: Jenna is Luo Shan's closest investigator and emotional anchor in the dream. Luo Shan trusts her with the truth about the boons, fights beside her, and asks her to preserve the memory of a person who will vanish. (Chapters 2365–2377 and 2427–2461)
Franca Roland: Franca helps investigate Luo Shan's powers and corruption, then relies on her local knowledge during the Mushu Hospital conflict. (Chapters 2375–2377 and 2427–2433)
Anthony Reid: Anthony treats the personality distortion caused by Reporter. He cannot remove the boon itself, but his intervention gives Luo Shan enough stability to choose her next actions. (Chapters 2376–2377)
Klein Moretti: Luo Shan knows Klein as Zhou Mingrui, her colleague and the central consciousness sustaining the dream. She is manipulated into giving him an Instigator drink, then later risks dissolution to help him recognize reality. (Chapters 2375–2377 and 2460–2461)
