Bakerland
Bakerland Jean Madan is the Intis ambassador to Loen and the chief organizer of Intis intelligence work there. His pursuit of the Helmosuin manuscript and his willingness to incite bloodshed make him a target of Audrey Hall's commissioned assassination.
Biography
Life in Klein's Era
Bakerland uses the embassy's balls and social access to cultivate bankers, factory owners, and political contacts while directing a covert network that includes Rosago. He pursues Ian Wright and the Helmosuin manuscript, orders retaliation through Meursault and Rosago, and supports agitation intended to benefit Intis even at the cost of Loen lives. Those choices turn Sherlock Moriarty's defense of Ian into a wider intelligence conflict. (Chapters 235–248)
Audrey Hall, alarmed by Bakerland's plans, commissions Mr. A to assassinate him. Bakerland fights back with fire, a flaming spear, and a puppet-inducing mystical item, but Mr. A combines disease and recorded powers to overwhelm him. His body is split and his soul destroyed, ending his intelligence operation and leaving the embassy to contain the diplomatic consequences. (Chapters 242, 249, 252)
Appearance and personality
Bakerland has a thin face, slight stubble, and passionate, forceful eyes. He can appear charming and bold in elite company but is lecherous, ruthless, and confident that diplomacy and covert violence can be used together without personal consequence. (Chapters 242, 248)
Pathways and abilities
Bakerland is a Sequence 6 Conspirer of the Hunter pathway. He is skilled at planning, provocation, and organizing conflict, and can wield intense flames and form a burning spear in combat. His assassination shows that preparation and firepower cannot compensate when disease and unfamiliar recorded abilities bypass his defenses. (Chapters 245, 249)
Relationships
Rosago is Bakerland's Secret Order assistant and operative. Ian Wright is the intelligence target whose pursuit exposes Bakerland's network to Sherlock, while Audrey and Mr. A become the indirect planner and direct executor of his death. (Chapters 235–249)
Items
Bakerland carries a small mystical puppet head in his breast pocket that can slow a target and push it toward a puppet-like state. The artifact's proper name and full side effects are not established before his death. (Chapter 249)
