Famine
Famine is a Mid Adversary manifested as an immense swarm of locusts. It commands a hierarchy that once includes Envy and Gluttony and later attacks Aegis headquarters beside Pestilence and War. (Chapters 260, 752, and 809–810)
Biography
General of Death and assault on Aegis
Famine is first known through servants who proclaim it as Envy's superior, placing it high in Death's destructive hierarchy. It later joins Pestilence and War in weakening and killing the Right Arm, then assaults Aegis headquarters as a cloud of locusts capable of consuming Protectors and collapsing the defenders' formation. More than thirty Protectors, the Wall, the Politician, and the Technician combine suppression and continuous attacks to reduce the swarm. When Death and Pestilence retreat, Famine cannot escape the Politician's vortex; the Champion burns the surviving locusts to ash, ending a threat considered nearly impossible to kill because every dispersed body had to be destroyed. (Chapters 260, 752, and 809–810)
Appearance and personality
Famine has no single humanoid body in the corpus. Its form is a vast, effectively unending cloud of locusts that acts as one Specter, with the swarm shrinking visibly as defenders destroy its components. No direct personal speech or individual mannerism is recorded, so its loyalty to Death's faction and participation in coordinated attacks are established, but a more specific personality or private motive is not. (Chapters 752 and 809–810)
Abilities and Zephyx
Famine is effectively a Force Specter spread across trillions of locusts. The swarm can engulf powerful humans, eat through defenses, and remains alive while its constituent locusts survive; this distribution makes killing it exceptionally difficult but permits mass area attacks and suppression to reduce it. Famine gains power by starving people, although the precise feeding range and conversion process are not explained. Combined with Pestilence, it can rapidly drain a Shield's Zephyx. (Chapters 752, 809–810)
Relationships
- Death: Famine operates within Death's hierarchy and joins the coordinated attacks on humanity. Death's later withdrawal leaves the suppressed Famine unable to escape Aegis. (Chapters 260 and 809–810)
- Technician and Politician: The Technician burns through the swarm with lasers while the Politician's vortex keeps it trapped, enabling the Champion's finishing attack. (Chapter 810)
- Eternal Hunger: Eternal Hunger was formerly Famine's servant but eventually grew beyond Famine's control, showing that the Adversary's hierarchy was not absolute. (Chapters 800 and 805)
Items
- No named item or carried equipment is associated with Famine; the locust swarm is Famine's own distributed body, not an inventory item. (Chapters 809–810)
