Cynthia

Cynthia is an Aegis trainee whose strength in mathematics, physics, biology, and Zephology makes her Nick's principal academic peer. Her first field operation forces her to translate that broad competence into lethal action under fear. (Chapters 576–589)

Biography

Academic exchange and first operation

Cynthia enters Nick's trainee group as an Early Expert approaching the second stage and immediately organizes an exchange of academic knowledge. Formerly employed by the strongest Manufacturer in Brown Land City, she offers the mathematics and biological expertise Nick lacks, while his economics knowledge draws the group into wider technical discussions. On their first mission she guards a building's central approaches with Steve, panics under incoming fire, and nevertheless kills seven attackers before regaining enough control to report professionally. She follows Steve's later order to shoot a surrendered Specter, placing squad discipline above Nick's revised plan; the confrontation ends with the team divided over command rather than Cynthia emerging untouched by her first kills. (Chapters 576–589)

The corpus does not narrate Cynthia's later advancement or death. A much later woman introduced under the name Cynthia is explicitly Nick in disguise, not Cynthia Mason; the actual trainee is only established as one of Nick's deceased former associates by Chapter 956. (Chapters 830 and 956)

Appearance and personality

Cynthia is a serious young woman with black hair. She is confident in academic discussion and dismisses casual teasing, but combat reveals inexperience: after seeing the bodies of people she killed, she feels horror and emotional numbness while forcing herself to continue. Her ability to recover before firing reflexively at Steve shows discipline without erasing that fear. (Chapters 576 and 588)

Abilities and Zephyx

Cynthia is an Expert who fights with two guns and an Aegis Barrier. The Barrier can display silhouettes through obscuring fog and warn her of incoming attacks; with that assistance she tracks multiple targets and survives a sniper shot that costs only about three percent of her Zephyx. Her academic strengths include high-level mathematics, physics, biology, and working Zephology knowledge. The corpus does not identify a synchronized ability unique to her. (Chapters 576 and 588)

Relationships

  • Nick: Cynthia becomes Nick's main source for several academic subjects and later follows orders against his decision to contain a Specter, placing them on opposite sides of a field dispute. (Chapters 576–589)
  • Steve: Steve leads Cynthia's squad. His orders steady her during combat, while her controlled admission of fear also helps him recover his own composure. (Chapter 588)
  • Mendor: Mendor is a fellow member of her academic and field group; his refusal to follow Steve's execution order contrasts with Cynthia's compliance. (Chapters 576 and 589)

Items

  • Cynthia carries two guns and an Aegis Barrier. Neither gun is named or given unique properties in the corpus. (Chapters 576 and 588–589)
