Antonio Jefferson
Antonio Jefferson is a long-serving International Superhuman Association officer whose institutional authority and talent for military tactics make him an important intermediary for the advisers Season and One. Behind his respectable post, he initially hides an underground fighting persona driven by insecurity; renewed responsibility gradually displaces that private life and restores his focus as a soldier and commander. (Chapters 66, 170, 195, 199–205, 251, 255–256, 263, 287, 290, 356, 360)
Biography
Returning from Mister Cthulhu to military duty
Jefferson serves as the Association chairman's chief aide but secretly fights as the masked Mister Cthulhu, using victories over weaker underground opponents to soothe the inferiority he feels among the Association's monsters. That life loses its appeal when his friend Ohn Sung-o and his own sister disappear during Clone 1's test of him. Believing they may be dead, Jefferson arrives at a negotiation prepared to sacrifice himself, then responds to their survival and the warning of a future war by asking to meet the planner behind One. His loyalty remains directed toward the Association: even while frightened, he challenges the strangers when they belittle it and cooperates primarily to prevent greater institutional danger. (Chapters 170, 195, 199)
Working under the name Season, Yu Jitae uses Jefferson's credibility to place One inside the Association. Jefferson stakes his standing on an unverified prediction of an SS+ fissure, forces reluctant Command Centre forces into a provisional army, and withstands public humiliation as the predicted time approaches without normal warning signs. The fissure appears exactly as forecast, validating his gamble; the operation's success then brings him the visible rewards and makes him the recognized liaison for Season and One, turning a coerced arrangement into a working relationship based on demonstrated results. (Chapters 200, 202–205)
Jefferson later receives his own Quasar task force and competes with Kang Ahjin to find the terrorist network. His elite team tracks fleeing executives but fails to prevent their suicides, and a retaliatory massacre forces him to confront the cost of an incomplete success. He nevertheless continues coordinating investigations, responds immediately to Season's commands, supports senior conferences, and reports through the Association's later crisis. When Oscar Brzenk's assault bypasses his preparations, Season does not blame him because he had remained within the assigned plan. (Chapters 251, 255–256, 259, 263, 287, 290, 356, 360)
Appearance and personality
Jefferson is an older, bearded man with a powerful muscular build. At work he wears a suit and can present a calm, sunken gaze and deep voice capable of directing a negotiation. In the underground ring he replaces that official appearance with a squid-like Cthulhu mask and displays his physique and showmanship openly. (Chapters 170, 195, 199)
His early vanity, vulgarity, and inferiority complex contrast with genuine courage and institutional loyalty. Jefferson may panic, bluster, or worry about his position, yet he is willing to risk that position to mobilize troops and can prioritize the Association's survival over his family grief or personal safety. Later work leaves him too busy for the masked hobby, while operational failure still produces anger and self-reproach rather than indifference. (Chapters 170, 195, 199–203, 251, 255–256, 356)
Powers and abilities
Military strategy and command authority
Jefferson's primary strength is military organization. His Central Command authority lets him gather units and compel reluctant rankers to join the South Amazon force, while his analysis correctly concludes that multiple SSS+ fissures would need to be concentrated to reduce worldwide losses. Season later trusts him to form an independent Quasar group and deal personally with newly discovered bases. His plans are not infallible: determined prisoners kill themselves before capture, and unusual enemies can exploit assumptions built into the Association's procedures. (Chapters 195, 202–203, 251, 255–256, 263)
Ranker-level combat
Jefferson is identified as Rank 781 and can dent armoured vehicles with a punch. As Mister Cthulhu, he wins thirteen consecutive underground matches and kills a large superhuman by driving the man's head into his torso with a single downward strike. These feats demonstrate substantial physical power, but his dominance occurs in an underground circuit he deliberately uses to avoid comparison with the Association's top combatants. (Chapter 170)
Relationships
- Yu Jitae: Jefferson first knows him as Season and regards his predictions with fear and doubt. Successful operations convert that doubt into practical trust: he follows direct orders without demanding explanations, receives independent command, and becomes one of Season's most reliable military assistants. (Chapters 199–205, 251, 255–256, 263, 287, 290, 356)
- Clone 1: One abducts people close to Jefferson to force a meeting, then reveals them alive and recruits Jefferson into the plan to reform the Association. Jefferson resents the methods and challenges One's contempt for the institution, but uses his own reputation to sponsor One as an adviser after recognizing the scale of the threat. (Chapters 195, 199–200)
- Chaliovan Greenrain: Jefferson rises through twenty-five years of loyalty to become Chaliovan's chief aide. His position and credibility derive from that service, and his actions repeatedly reflect concern that a mistake could endanger or disgrace the Association Chaliovan leads. (Chapters 66, 195, 199–203)
- Kang Ahjin: Ahjin becomes Jefferson's colleague and rival under Season. They command separate Quasar investigations, criticize one another's incomplete results, and cooperate at attack sites and conferences despite competing for recognition and responsibility. (Chapters 200, 202, 251, 255–256, 287, 290, 356)
Items
Cthulhu mask
Jefferson wears a squid-like mask while competing anonymously as Mister Cthulhu in an underground fight club. It separates the celebrated brawler from the Association's chief aide and lets him seek crude recognition without exposing his office. After accepting sustained military work under Season, Jefferson discards the masks and stops visiting the ring. (Chapters 170, 251)
Tuxedo and necktie artifact
Before meeting One, Jefferson retrieves the tuxedo he bought when he first joined the Association and pairs it with a suicide-oriented necktie artifact. The outfit marks his decision to face the unknown negotiator as a soldier prepared to die rather than as Mister Cthulhu. The necktie's lethal mechanism is not activated during the meeting. (Chapter 195)
