Zhou Yanyun

Zhou Yanyun is a senior Solitary Sword Sect Dao Protector who recruits Chen Fan after the Reliance Sect dissolves.

Biography

Fall of the Reliance Sect

Zhou Yanyun arrives from the Solitary Sword Sect after the appearance of the Sublime Spirit Scripture draws Southern Domain powers to the Reliance Sect. His standing is immediately clear: the Black Sieve representative greets him as a peer, while Zhao Shanling conceals fear. Zhou casts his senses over the mountains and detects the Scripture's qi, but cannot locate Patriarch Reliance's concealed meditation zone. (Chapter 42)

The confrontation with Patriarch Reliance overwhelms even these senior visitors. Zhou retreats while carrying the unconscious Chen Fan, surrounded by sword auras, but Patriarch Reliance's gaze makes his Nascent Soul wither and breaks his massive sword. He survives the punishment and takes Chen away when the Reliance Sect dissolves. Chen's loyalty to his fallen sect becomes the foundation of their relationship: Zhou chooses him as a personal disciple rather than treating that loyalty as disobedience. (Chapters 42–43)

Chen Fan's master

Years later, Zhou leads the Solitary Sword Sect delegation to a Blood Immortal Legacy zone. Chen Fan stands among the sect's seven leading disciples, evidence of the status and training received under him. Zhou watches the unknown challenger who is actually Meng Hao break the fourth matrix in record time, but cannot recognize the former Reliance disciple. The supplied chapters establish his continuing guardianship of Chen and senior position, not his later private response to Chen's sect rivalries. (Chapters 120 and 126)

Appearance and personality

Zhou Yanyun is a middle-aged man with a cold expression and fierce killing intent. He is authoritative enough to unsettle other senior cultivators, but also discerning: Chen Fan's righteousness wins patronage rather than punishment. During Patriarch Reliance's retaliation he protects the unconscious disciple even while wounded and retreating.

Abilities and cultivation

Zhou is a Nascent Soul cultivator and senior sword expert of the Solitary Sword Sect.

Sword aura and massive sword

He travels with and controls a massive sword, and when retreating he surrounds himself with numerous sword auras. This defense is substantial by Southern Domain standards but cannot withstand Patriarch Reliance's gaze: the sword splits and Zhou coughs blood while his Nascent Soul begins to wither. The scene demonstrates both his sword path and the sharp limit imposed by a vastly stronger opponent. (Chapter 43)

Spiritual perception

Zhou can spread powerful senses throughout the Reliance Sect, detect the Sublime Spirit Scripture's lingering qi, and determine that none of the visible disciples possesses it. Patriarch Reliance's failsafe still conceals the entrance from him, showing that his perception does not reach Spirit Severing-level protections. (Chapter 42)

Dao Protector authority

He leads hundreds of sword-riding disciples and stands ahead of the Solitary Sword Sect's seven representatives at the Blood Immortal Legacy. A black flying dagger associated with Zhou is later given to Chen Fan; the weapon carries enough threat to restrain Chen's sect rivals, although Zhou is not shown wielding it in this batch of scenes. (Chapters 120 and 178–179)
