Zhao Chunmu

Zhao Chunmu is the sinister Holy Son who leads the Five Poisons Tribe's Scorpion Branch against the five allied Crow Divinity Tribes.

Biography

Taking command of the Scorpion Branch

Zhao Chunmu enters the existing battlefield with the Scorpion Branch and immediately commits four thousand cultivators to the attack. He approaches Zhao Youlan while her Spider Branch is struggling and criticizes her methods as softhearted. In his view, the allied Tribes should be defeated by destroying their totems and killing their Dragoneer rather than by using the costly Exotic Heartdevil Flower. His intervention is therefore both military and political: he intends to prove that his branch can secure the victory that hers has failed to deliver. (Chapter 446)

After identifying Meng Hao as the opposing Dragoneer, Zhao chooses immediate extermination. He directs eighteen Stealth Guards against him and, after they are killed, orders a second force of nine early Nascent Soul cultivators and one mid-stage expert to attack. The scale of those deployments shows substantial authority, but their failure also reveals that Zhao has badly underestimated the Sacred Ancient he is trying to remove. His initial confidence gives way to disbelief as Meng Hao survives and counters the branch's pressure. (Chapters 446–447)

Collapse of authority and death

Meng Hao's broader attack suppresses the Scorpion Branch cultivators and damages their cultivation bases. Zhao remains with the retreating command group, pale and increasingly frightened. When Meng Hao turns his attention toward him, Zhao recognizes that this is likely the same opponent who severed Zhao Youlan's arm. He backs away while the remaining elders intervene, but Meng Hao initially uses him as bait to draw those stronger defenders into another clash. (Chapters 448–449)

Once the useful targets escape, Meng Hao decides the bait is no longer needed. Zhao cannot resist as Meng Hao appears beside him and taps his forehead, exploding his head. The Holy Son's death breaks what remains of the Scorpion Branch's will to fight and accelerates its retreat, turning his attempt to eclipse Zhao Youlan into a battlefield defeat for his own branch. Appearance and personality

Zhao Chunmu is a handsome, extraordinary-looking young man with a somewhat sinister air. He is confident, contemptuous of caution, and eager to contrast his ruthlessness with Zhao Youlan's strategy. He treats subordinates as instruments, committing thousands of soldiers and waves of elite guards to solve the problem he has identified. That certainty is brittle: after seeing those forces fail, he becomes visibly terrified and attempts to withdraw.

Scorpion Branch command

As Holy Son, Zhao can direct thousands of ordinary cultivators, eighteen Stealth Guards, and a ten-person Nascent Soul assault group. He coordinates those forces by gesture and command, using layered attacks to isolate the enemy Dragoneer. This is organizational power rather than proof that he personally possesses the combat strength of the elders he commands. (Chapters 446–447)

Tactical doctrine and limitations

Zhao correctly identifies totems and the Dragoneer as critical points in the allied Tribes' war structure, and he favors a rapid decapitation strike over Zhao Youlan's more elaborate plan. The doctrine fails because his estimate of Meng Hao's strength is wrong. Once the elite waves cannot kill their target, Zhao shows no personal technique capable of reversing the situation and is helpless when Meng Hao closes the distance. (Chapters 446–450)
