Biography

Championing Ye Feimu

Ye Yuntian enters the trial already invested in Ye Feimu’s success, with their shared surname reinforcing his identification with the younger alchemist. He watches Feimu closely, criticizes Fang Mu’s character, and explains stages of the contest from the position of an established Violet Furnace Lord. His judgment is not neutral: nearly every strong result from Ye Feimu is treated as confirmation that the expected candidate will prevail. (Chapters 278 and 284–285)

His support extends beyond public encouragement. Ye Yuntian has privately passed on his own experience of the trial to Ye Feimu despite sect protocol, giving his favored candidate an advantage other entrants did not receive. During the pill-concocting stages he recognizes the significance of Pill Tribulation and praises Ye Feimu’s technique, while reacting gloomily whenever Fang Mu produces a superior result. The balance changes when Fang Mu proves that he is Grandmaster Pill Cauldron. Ye Yuntian cannot answer the evidence and is publicly humiliated by the collapse of his confident predictions. His pain is especially sharp because the result appears to close Ye Feimu’s path, not merely because Ye Yuntian’s own judgment was wrong. He nevertheless remains within the East Pill Division’s hierarchy and cannot override Pill Demon’s ruling concerning the finalists. (Chapters 292–293)
