Yan'er

Yan'er is the reincarnation born from the soul of Chu Yuyan. She becomes the sole apprentice of Fang Mu—Meng Hao's clone—and later chooses a mortal life with the clone's ninth reincarnation, Little Treasure.

Biography

Rebirth and Fang Mu's apprentice

Yan'er is born from the reincarnated soul of Chu Yuyan, but she grows without living as a continuation of Chu Yuyan's conscious identity. Meng Hao's clone, using the name Fang Mu, accepts her as his sole apprentice and trains her in the alchemical lineage once associated with that identity. She develops into a gifted alchemist through sustained instruction rather than simply inheriting complete knowledge from her former life. Her bond with Fang Mu becomes the central relationship of the life she actually remembers. (Chapters 1453–1478)

Fang Mu prepares resources and protections for her before his death and the start of his own reincarnation cycle. Yan'er survives her Immortal Tribulation with Meng Hao observing in secret, but he does not replace her effort with his own power. The tribulation completes her advancement and confirms that the apprentice has established a cultivation path separate from both Chu Yuyan and her vanished master. Her continued search afterward is motivated by affection and unfinished farewell, not by a technical compulsion built into reincarnation. (Chapter 1478)

Little Treasure

Yan'er follows the trace of Fang Mu through successive lives and eventually finds the clone's blind ninth reincarnation, Little Treasure. He is a mortal woodcarver with no conscious memory of being her master. Yan'er chooses not to force that former identity upon him. She stays, accepts the shape of his mortal life, and eventually becomes his wife. Her decision changes their relationship rather than merely resuming it: teacher and disciple become partners who build a household and have a daughter, Perfect. (Chapter 1494)

To live beside Little Treasure without attracting destructive attention, Yan'er even alters or conceals the beauty and power that would separate her from an ordinary mortal wife. That restraint is as important as her cultivation: she repeatedly chooses his agency over her desire to recover Fang Mu. When Allheaven freezes the first continent and suppresses cultivation, she uses the remnants of her resilient Immortal body to protect the family, but the catastrophe strips away the advantages that once made protection easy. An avalanche nearly kills Little Treasure during the frozen migration. Yan'er feeds him her own blood to preserve his life, spending a body already weakened by the continent's suppression. She then realizes that the wooden sculpture embodying his life's work and destiny has been left behind. Returning alone through the lethal cold cannot save her, but she makes the journey anyway and carries the sculpture back to him. She dies from the cost after completing the act, choosing the meaning of Little Treasure's life over her own survival. (Chapter 1523)

Vast Expanse and Transcendence

Meng Hao gathers and restores the damaged fragments of Yan'er's soul. He can also return Chu Yuyan's memories, which would connect her to the identity from which her soul originated. Yan'er declines. She does not reject Chu Yuyan with hostility; she decides that her own apprenticeship, marriage, motherhood, sacrifice, and death already form a complete life that should not be overwritten by someone else's remembered past. She addresses Meng Hao as master in farewell and voluntarily enters reincarnation without reclaiming Chu Yuyan's burdens. (Chapter 1525)

The choice resolves the tension present from her birth. Reincarnation preserves continuity of soul, but the narrative treats memory and lived decisions as morally significant. Yan'er honors the affection that led Meng Hao to protect her while refusing the ending he might have preferred, and he ultimately respects that autonomy. (Chapter 1525)

Appearance and personality

Yan'er grows into a talented young woman whose original beauty and Immortal bearing would make an ordinary mortal life difficult. She deliberately changes her appearance while living with Little Treasure so that she can remain beside him without turning their household into an object of danger or worship. During the frozen catastrophe she becomes physically exhausted and injured, but continues moving after cultivation can no longer shield her from the environment. (Chapters 1494, 1520 and 1523)

Devotion is her defining quality, but it is paired with independence. She searches for her master without demanding that his reincarnation remember her, loves Little Treasure as the person he is, and protects their daughter through action. Her final refusal of Chu Yuyan's memories demonstrates the same pattern: Yan'er can love her origins and teacher while still choosing the identity created by her own experiences. Abilities and cultivation

Alchemy

Fang Mu personally trains Yan'er in medicinal plants and pill cultivation. Her skill is developed through apprenticeship and is strong enough to define her early path, but the corpus does not portray her as automatically possessing all of Chu Yuyan's former mastery. (Chapters 1453–1478)

Immortal cultivation

Yan'er passes an Immortal Tribulation and establishes an Immortal body. Meng Hao watches and leaves preparations, yet the breakthrough remains hers; later environmental suppression shows that Immortal status does not guarantee access to unrestricted cultivation under Allheaven's control. Resilient body and blood

Even after cultivation is suppressed, her body and blood retain enough vitality to keep Little Treasure alive after the avalanche. The transfer further weakens her, so it functions as a finite sacrifice rather than effortless healing. (Chapters 1520 and 1523)

Soul continuity through reincarnation

Yan'er's soul originates with Chu Yuyan and can be repaired or sent onward after death. Continuity does not force identical personality or memory: she can refuse restoration of the previous life's experiences and enter another reincarnation as herself. (Chapter 1525)

Protective concealment

She suppresses signs of status and changes her presentation to remain safely in a mortal household. This is practical control and restraint, not a combat technique, and its purpose is to preserve Little Treasure's chosen life. (Chapter 1494)

• Meng Hao's Clone: Her master as Fang Mu and, in his ninth mortal life, her husband Little Treasure. Yan'er respects the difference between the two identities rather than forcing one onto the other.
