Xu Youdao is a cautious but opportunistic rogue cultivator recruited for Han Bei's hidden expedition. His ancient bloodline opens the path toward the Classic of Time, but taking its bait jade brings lethal lightning.

Biography

From bully to wary ally

Xu enters the Black Sieve gathering among the strongest rogue guests. In the Blessed Land he blocks Meng Hao and demands Xu Qing for interrogation. Meng Hao kills Xu's two companions effortlessly; Xu gives his name, apologizes, and withdraws rather than turn intimidation into suicide. (Chapters 142–154)

He later joins Han Bei's six-person party. Suspicious of her lethal arrangements, he supports Meng Hao's demand for an explanation and tests the supposed exit with a Spirit Seal insect. The creature's success reassures him, but the route is itself part of the deception. Inside the bronze cauldron, Xu uses a blue pill-shaped shield against lightning and reaches the statues of the Nine Great Families. (Chapters 155–161)

When jade pieces scatter, Xu seizes one while claiming he will preserve it for Han Bei. Meat Jelly lands on his head, drawing converging lightning that overwhelms the shield and reduces Xu and his possessions to ash. The ancient jade alone survives, confirming it as bait designed to outlast its holder. (Chapter 162)

Appearance and personality

Xu is a gray-robed old man. He is forceful toward weaker targets, quick to retreat after contrary evidence, and careful enough to test an exit. His caution has a limit: once the inheritance is physically within reach, greed overrides the warning signs.

Abilities and cultivation

Eight Dao Pillars

Eight Foundation Establishment pillars give Xu strong late-realm pressure, superior to most recruits. Their quality is still insufficient against Meng Hao's Perfect Foundation and offers no protection from the cauldron's ancient lightning.

Spirit Seal insect

The insect tests paths or restrictions before its master commits. It verifies that Han Bei's offered exit is traversable, but cannot determine her intention or reveal that the path serves a larger trap.

Pill-shaped lightning shield

Xu activates a blue-green protective treasure that repels ordinary bolts inside the cauldron. Multiple converging strikes, amplified around Meat Jelly and the jade, exceed its capacity and destroy both shield and cultivator.

  • Meng Hao: Initially challenged, then treated as the party member best able to pressure Han Bei.
  • Han Bei: Recruiter who needs Xu's bloodline and structures the lethal jade contest.
