Xiao Caifeng

Xiao Caifeng is the Xiao Clan’s gifted young talisman specialist.

Biography

Talisman prodigy of the Xiao Clan

Xiao Caifeng assists her aging clan elder, Xiao Chang'en, while the Xiao Clan struggles to preserve its Spirit lake. When Meng Hao stays near the lake, she paints and personally delivers nine paper talismans that screen his room from outside observation. She later brings him a leashed Spirit monkey so he can test an Earth Sieve Pill, waits patiently through the four-hour examination, and leads the strengthened animal away only after he approves the result. Her careful cooperation helps Meng Hao work while the clan faces hostile neighbors. (Chapters 169–170)

Defense of the mountain village

The arrival of Sang Luo leaves Caifeng pale but present beside Xiao Chang'en. After Meng Hao destroys the immediate attackers, she watches him with growing admiration. A second crisis arrives during his cultivation breakthrough, when outsiders converge on the conspicuous moonlight above the village. Her low cultivation prevents her from personally confronting them, but a shield she created delays two early Foundation Establishment cultivators for three breaths. That brief resistance is exceptional for a talisman made by a Qi Condensation cultivator and protects the critical moment until Meng Hao's lightning mist repels the intruders. (Chapters 170–173)

Inheriting the clan's protection

After Meng Hao resolves the danger, the Xiao Clan acknowledges him as its benefactor. Before departing, he severs two of the Spirit lake's vines and helps Caifeng brand them to herself, leaving the clan a defense for the period after Xiao Chang'en's death. Caifeng watches Meng Hao leave with affection but also recognizes the impossible distance between their paths. Her final role is therefore not simply that of a grateful admirer: she becomes custodian of the living protection on which the clan's future depends. (Chapter 175)

Appearance and personality

She is a tall, slim young woman. Caifeng is respectful toward seniors, patient in practical duties, and steady enough to continue helping while her clan faces extinction. Her fear during attacks is explicit, but it does not erase her usefulness. She develops a quiet attraction to Meng Hao and watches his departure with a smile, while realistically accepting that no relationship can follow from it.

Abilities and cultivation

Caifeng is only at Qi Condensation, so her principal strength lies in talisman craft rather than direct combat.

Concealment and defensive talismans

She can paint a set of nine paper talismans that produces a soft screen: someone inside can see out, while observers outside cannot see in. Her separate shield talisman survives the combined contact of early Foundation Establishment attackers for roughly three breaths. The defense then collapses, showing the limit imposed by her cultivation, but the narration identifies even that duration as proof of outstanding latent talent. (Chapters 169 and 172–173)

Branded Spirit-lake vines

Meng Hao severs two powerful vines from the Spirit lake and assists Caifeng in branding them. The bond makes the vines hers and leaves them available to defend the Xiao Clan. This is a gifted protective resource, not a technique she originated, and the supplied text does not show her later commanding them in battle. (Chapter 175)
