Sun Dahai is a Crow Divinity Tribe elder whose experience at discreet inquiry makes him Meng Hao's scout inside the Eight Branch Alliance's trade city.

Biography

Entering the Eight Branch Alliance city

Sun first advises the Crow Divinity leadership when Meng Hao's scouts discover the Eight Branch Alliance trade outpost. Drawing on experience with mobile tribal markets, he explains why migrating tribes form commercial alliances and argues that the city may provide a replacement flying treasure and other supplies. He is also prepared for force if the Alliance proves hostile, matching Meng Hao's decision to trade peacefully unless attacked. (Chapter 488)

As the Crow Divinity Tribe migrates from the Western Desert North, Sun Dahai accompanies Meng Hao to a city established by the Eight Branch Alliance. He handles the conversation with Ou Yunzi at the border, giving the harmless explanation that the migrants need to trade for supplies while he and the Alliance elder quietly assess one another. Once inside, he separates from Meng Hao to collect information because his years of cultivation have made him practiced at discreet inquiries. (Chapter 489)

Sun reports that the Alliance has occupied the area for four months and holds auctions at the end of each month. He does not simply declare the city safe: he considers whether the market could be bait for wealthy victims and questions why a power capable of swallowing tribes would need to build a commercial center at all. At the auction, excitement overcomes Sun's prior reserve. He has never attended such an event despite being a Nascent Soul cultivator, and the escalating prices draw him into frenzied bidding. Meng Hao calling his name breaks the influence long enough for Sun to recognize that his behavior has become abnormal. When the formation releases Demonic qi, Sun happens to be meditating at a temporary nexus where the corruption cannot initially reach him. (Chapter 491)

That protection soon fails. Meng Hao drives the invading qi away, carries Sun through the pursuit, seals his body, and leaves him inside a protective shield. The shield is what preserves Sun when the other cultivators' life force is drained.
