Sir Jian
Sir Jian is a Solitary Sword Sect Spirit Severing patriarch who yields ground to Meng Hao at the Ancient Dao Lakes, then dies after using Chen Fan as a hostage during the sect’s final defense.
Biography
Ancient Dao Lakes
Sir Jian appears among the great Southern Domain powers competing at the Ancient Dao Lakes. He maintains a cold rivalry with Withered-Dao and studies the movements of other patriarchs, including Blood Demon and a Third Severing expert. When Meng Hao begins slaughtering opponents with power beyond expectation, Sir Jian orders Solitary Sword Sect forces to fall back rather than spend them in a futile clash. (Chapters 714–716)
Even that caution does not put him beyond Meng Hao’s pressure. Sir Jian is injured while Meng Hao is not even concentrating his full attention on him, and he objects when Meng Hao claims the central lake. An ancient-looking youth behind Sir Jian overrules the protest, forcing him to bow and accept the decision. Sir Jian remains with the sect’s contingent through the confrontation before withdrawing from the Dao Lakes. (Chapters 717–719 and 724)
Defense of the Solitary Sword Sect
After the sect’s Dao Seeking patriarch is gone, Sir Jian is one of its three remaining Spirit Severing leaders. He commands defensive formations when Meng Hao arrives and participates in activating layers of the sect’s prepared resistance. As those defenses fail, Sir Jian abandons a conventional stand and uses Chen Fan as a hostage, demanding Meng Hao’s Immortal puppet in exchange. He also invokes Chen Fan’s history to make the threat emotionally credible. (Chapters 753–754)
Meng Hao answers with the Lightning Cauldron, transposing positions and removing Chen Fan from Sir Jian’s control. The failed exchange inflicts backlash. Sir Jian burns blood for speed and attempts to flee, but Meng Hao’s Wooden Time Sword catches him. His body and Nascent Divinity are destroyed, leaving dust behind. (Chapter 755)
Appearance and personality
Sir Jian is an old man whose position carries the authority of a sect patriarch. He can be prudent when an opponent’s superiority is obvious, but his pride resurfaces when control of the Dao Lakes is at stake. During the sect’s collapse, that caution becomes ruthlessness: he is willing to sacrifice a disciple’s safety to obtain a weapon or delay Meng Hao. His final flight shows that survival, not an honorable last stand, governs him once the hostage plan fails.
Abilities and cultivation
Spirit Severing cultivation
Sir Jian is a Spirit Severing expert and one of the Solitary Sword Sect’s last senior combatants. His cultivation is enough to influence competition among major Southern Domain powers and to lead layered sect defenses. It is nevertheless clearly below Meng Hao’s level by the Dao Lakes arc, where indirect pressure can injure him.
Formation command
At the Solitary Sword Sect, he helps direct prepared defensive formations and the use of formation-linked pills. The power is institutional rather than his alone: its strength comes from the sect’s accumulated defenses, disciples, and coordinated activation. Once Meng Hao breaks those layers, Sir Jian has no equivalent personal technique capable of restoring the balance.
Minor teleportation and blood escape
Sir Jian can move with a form of minor teleportation, which lets him seize Chen Fan and reposition rapidly. After the Lightning Cauldron defeats that spatial advantage, he burns blood to accelerate his escape. Both methods are fast but vulnerable to superior transposition and time-based sword power.
