Patriarch Big-head
Patriarch Big-head, personal name Ouyang, is the Talisman Sect leader who attacks Meng Hao's formation with a partial Fourth Mountain legacy. A prolonged pursuit breaks his resistance, after which he surrenders his soul blood and becomes a useful subordinate.
Biography
Assault on the Celestial formation
Big-head joins Patriarchs Pockmarks and Rubicund in the coalition surrounding Meng Hao's cave. His formation knowledge identifies the defense as an ancient human-powered Celestial formation whose wind and phantoms can kill Immortals. That insight produces avarice rather than caution: while the others seek plunder, Big-head asks only for the Parrot. (Chapter 335)
He uses Luminous Rice derived from a grain taken from an ancient Giant Locust. The rice blackens inside the formation, absorbs cultivation power from hundreds of allies and Big-head's blood, then shines and summons a “Heavenly Army” of evil spirits. The Parrot recognizes it as an incomplete League of Hellfire legacy from the Fourth Mountain. The assault weakens the formation, but Meng Hao completes a Perfect Gold Core before the attackers can win. (Chapter 336)
Pursuit, surrender, and service
Big-head survives the coalition's collapse with his bag of holding intact, making him Meng Hao's primary target. He repeatedly burns blood and uses a self-damaging Hellfire escape art to open distance, recruiting friends and strangers as disposable obstacles. Meng Hao kills or converts each group. After days of flight, Big-head can use only a fraction of his cultivation and realizes that even death may leave his soul available for torment. (Chapters 340–343)
His defiant speech collapses when he sees Meng Hao's treatment of a captured soul. Ouyang voluntarily offers soul blood, giving Meng Hao the power to kill him at will. He then explains and hands over the perforated Evil Wind jar, leads the assault on former sect strongholds, and helps incorporate the Talisman Sect into the Church of the Golden Light. (Chapters 343–344)
As a subordinate he remains visibly afraid of Meng Hao but becomes operationally reliable. He supports the confrontation with Dongluo City and investigates Frigid Snow Larvae, delivering the information that directs Meng Hao toward Holy Snow City. (Chapters 346–351)
Appearance and personality
Ouyang's disproportionately large head becomes more conspicuous as repeated escape techniques wither his body. During the pursuit he is pale, ragged, and eventually almost unable to form a fist.
He is knowledgeable, greedy, resourceful, and shamelessly adaptable. He begins willing to sacrifice followers for treasure and later misleads acquaintances into delaying Meng Hao. His surrender is equally calculating: if resistance and suicide both fail, absolute service offers the only remaining path to life.
Abilities and cultivation
Formation analysis
Big-head recognizes the structure, power source, and Immortal-killing potential of the Parrot's Celestial formation. This is expert diagnosis, not control; knowing how it works still requires outside power and specialized Hellfire tools to breach it.
Luminous Rice and Hellfire army
He refines a single inherited grain into sheets of rice, uses them to absorb allied cultivation and blood, and converts that energy into light and evil-spirit soldiers. The technique can erode a powerful formation, but is resource-hungry: Big-head needs hundreds of contributors, suffers withering strain, and possesses only an incomplete legacy.
Blood-fueled escape
By spitting blood and invoking evil spirits, Ouyang gains repeated bursts of speed that frustrate Meng Hao's pursuit. Every use worsens his injuries and permanently reduces available strength. It is therefore an emergency technique with a finite physiological budget, not sustainable superior movement.
Soul-blood submission
Ouyang can extract and surrender his soul blood. Once Meng Hao accepts it, the bond gives his master lethal control and makes betrayal effectively suicidal. The technique preserves his life only by replacing physical defeat with supernatural dependency.
