Divine Flame Guardian
Divine Flame Guardian is the golden-armored cultivator charged with preventing anyone from inheriting Huoyan Zi's flame spark beneath the Ancient Dao Lakes. He enforces Dao Fang's curse by guarding the legacy, but the rules of the flame prevent him from directly interrupting Meng Hao's inheritance attempt.
Biography
Nine Seas and the Windswept Realm
The guardian remains concealed when Meng Hao first touches Huoyan Zi's flame spark, announcing that the Five Dragons suppress the renegade by Dao Fang's order. He expects the surrounding Divine Flame and Dao Fang's curse to burn any inheritor away. Once Meng Hao begins surviving the ordeal, the guardian appears as a middle-aged man in golden armor but admits through his inaction that he cannot approach: Huoyan Zi's will erupts during transmission, and interference would make the wild flame still more dangerous. (Chapters 1175–1176)
Meng Hao exploits that restriction, using his Allheaven Dao Immortal foundation to refine his body and absorb increasing amounts of fire. The guardian's certainty erodes as he recognizes the azure light and realizes that the supposedly impossible inheritance may succeed. Meng Hao then destroys the guardian's fleshly body with azure lightning from his eyes, leaving only a terrified Nascent Divinity, and forces him to watch the entire sea of flames enter the spark. Once Huoyan Zi's will accepts Meng Hao and the Flame Essence stabilizes, the surrounding lightning erases the guardian's Nascent Divinity. (Chapters 1177–1178)
The enormous city-giant fought in Chapters 1179–1181 is a separate manifestation connected to Dao Fang's curse, not this middle-aged guardian. It is therefore not combined with the guardian's abilities or death here.
Appearance and personality
He appears as a middle-aged man in golden armor, with the bearing of a celestial warrior. Initially cold and contemptuous, he treats Meng Hao's death as inevitable. His confidence depends more on Dao Fang's curse than on his own power, and turns to disbelief and fear when Meng Hao breaks the assumptions behind his guardianship.
Abilities and cultivation
Great-circle Ancient Realm cultivation
The guardian possesses a cultivation base at the great circle of the Ancient Realm. That realm makes him a powerful defender under normal conditions, but Meng Hao's Allheaven Dao Immortal power after tempering is enough to destroy his body with a glance. The encounter provides no evidence that the guardian reaches the Dao Realm or controls an Essence of his own.
Suppression role and its restriction
His function is to preserve Dao Fang's curse over Huoyan Zi's legacy. He understands the flame spark's behavior and expects its pull on the boundless sea of fire to incinerate an inheritor. However, he does not freely command that Divine Flame. While the spark is transmitting its legacy, Huoyan Zi's suppressed will becomes violent, so approaching would intensify the fire and endanger the guardian as well. He can observe and intimidate, but cannot safely interrupt the decisive absorption process.
Nascent Divinity
When his golden-armored body is destroyed, the guardian persists as a Nascent Divinity. This preserves consciousness briefly, not combat parity: azure lightning surrounds and ultimately penetrates the Nascent Divinity, erasing it after Meng Hao completes the inheritance.
