Ancestor Greenwood Tree

The Ancestor Greenwood Tree is the Crow Scout Tribe's sacred Wood totem. Its consciousness originates from a powerful tree that crossed from the Ninth Sea and was reborn on Planet South Heaven; its memories give Meng Hao the foundation of his Wood-type Nascent Soul.

Biography

Awakening to a Demon

The sacred tree has not awakened for roughly two sixty-year cycles when it suddenly manifests as an enormous Treant and announces that it senses a Demon. Neo-demons across the Crow Scout Tribe roar in response, while the Greatfather and High Priests bow in fear. The Demon is Meng Hao, whose Righteous Bestowal path is uniquely compatible with the ancestor's remaining consciousness. (Chapter 395)

Once Meng Hao becomes an official vassal, he is brought to the tree for enlightenment. The Treant recognizes him as an approved outsider and sends his awareness through the tree's ancient experience: arrival from beyond South Heaven, growth across ages, destruction, and rebirth as Greenwood. Meng Hao does not merely view memories; he experiences becoming the tree, allowing Wood to merge with him without separation. (Chapters 406–408)

Totem inheritance and Ancestral Awakening

The gift produces branches from Meng Hao's body and a Greenwood Tree image that must be compressed into a one-inch totem. Branding is difficult even with the ancestor's approval, so Meng Hao supplements it with Demonic qi. Once complete, the tattoo emits enough life force to accelerate surrounding vegetation and later lets him influence Wood-based formations. (Chapters 408–421)

Inside the Crow Divinity Holy Land, the totem absorbs the Pool of Destiny's transmogrification power. It expands into an enormous tree, affects all vegetation in the realm, and then compresses back to one inch in a more concentrated form. The tribal elders identify this as an Ancestral Awakening. This matured legacy becomes Meng Hao's full-circle Wood power and eventually the basis of his Wood Nascent Soul. (Chapters 427–428, 481, and 522)

Final release with the Golden Crow

Meng Hao later finds the remains of a great tree inside the Holy Land with the weakening Golden Crow perched above it. A sliver of will has remained in the wood for ages, waiting to encounter and approve something similar to itself. The Golden Crow feeds life force into the tree and defends it from intruders, but both beings are near exhaustion. During their final intervention, their power supports Meng Hao's five-element path and the great tree rots into dust as the Golden Crow's woman-form fades toward it. (Chapters 429–432)

Meng Hao treats the inheritance as a debt. His protection and leadership of the reunited Crow Divinity Tribe are repeatedly framed as repayment to the Golden Crow and great tree rather than simple political gain. (Chapters 437, 510, and 515)

Appearance and personality

When active, the ancestor appears as an enormous Treant whose roar and pressure shake the Tribe. In memory and totem form it is a vast Greenwood Tree associated with dense green light, wild plant growth, and almost inexhaustible life force. Its final physical remains are withered and ancient.

The ancestor communicates through recognition, memory, and will more than conversation. It is discerning about successors and gives Meng Hao good fortune only after identifying his Demonic nature. Its final release suggests weariness and deliberate closure rather than defeat in battle.

Abilities and cultivation

Memory-identity transmission

The Treant can place a recipient inside its lived memories until the recipient experiences being the tree. This creates understanding deeper than verbal instruction and enables full merger with Wood. The transfer requires compatibility and approval; it is not shown being granted indiscriminately.

Greenwood life force

Its essence stimulates vegetation, produces branch-like growth from the user's body, strengthens heartbeat and recovery, and supplies a dense Wood aura. As a totem it can interact with Wood-containing shields. This is elemental authority, not unrestricted control over every plant or formation.

Totemic evolution

The inherited image can absorb Pool of Destiny power and undergo Ancestral Awakening. Compression from a gigantic manifestation to one inch concentrates rather than diminishes it. The evolved totem later supports a Wood Nascent Soul, but that conversion requires Meng Hao's alchemical cultivation and is not performed by the ancestor alone.

Survival through will

Even after the original great being collapses and its tree-body approaches dust, a sliver of consciousness persists in the wood. Golden Crow life force can briefly reactivate it. The will is finite: its final aid consumes what remains and the physical tree disintegrates.

  • Golden Crow: Companion spirit that protects and nourishes the final tree, then fades with it.
  • Crow Scout Tribe: Descendant community that worships the ancestor and derives its central totem from it.
  • Ninth Sea tree: The ancestor's pre-South-Heaven origin, later explicitly connected to Meng Hao's Wood Nascent Soul.

Items

  • Greenwood Tree totem: Spiritual inheritance branded onto Meng Hao rather than a detachable object.
  • No independently portable item within the finalized manifest is assigned to the ancestor.
