Sophie Brightman

Sophie Brightman is the business-minded younger sister of Joshua Brightman, his successor as Britain's protector, and a member of Revival. She combines an inherited SS-rank defensive ability with leadership of the Brightman conglomerate. (Chapters 151, 180–181, 202, and 335)

Biography

Succession and Revival

Sophie is first described as the Brightman sibling best suited to lead the family conglomerate: reasonable, aware of her position, and more talented at business than her older brothers. After Shin defeats Joshua, Edward Walker proposes giving Joshua's extracted ability to her. Sophie proves exceptionally compatible with it, but agrees to take the power, become an explorer, lead the conglomerate, and join Revival only after Walker accepts an engagement clause in her Soul Contract. She then replaces Joshua as Britain's SS-rank protector while arranging care for him in his incapacitated state. (Chapters 151 and 180–181)

Sophie's spirit soon surpasses Joshua's as the transferred ability grows with her. She contributes to Revival's planning and combat operations, though Walker is badly injured protecting her during the Lava King campaign. The pair later climb tirelessly until both reach the First Dungeon, turning an initially conditional alliance into sustained service. (Chapters 202, 207–232, and 325)

By the final wave Sophie is three months pregnant. She wants to continue working and fighting, but Shin orders her to rest because the coming land transmittance is too unpredictable. She therefore does not join the final combat deployment, while Walker takes on additional duties; her latest confirmed state is alive at Revival's base as the Demon Lord battle begins. (Chapters 335 and 343)

Appearance and personality

Sophie is a slender twenty-seven-year-old woman with radiant blond hair, sharp grey eyes, a sharp nose, and full lips. Her delicate build and softened coloring contrast with the cold first impression of her eyes. (Chapter 180)

She is practical and entrepreneurially gifted, yet direct and emotionally forceful around Walker. Sophie dislikes Joshua's habit of ordering people around and refuses to accept power or office until her own future with Walker is addressed. Once inside Revival, she works intensely enough to reach the First Dungeon, participates in strategic discussions, and objects to resting while pregnant because she sees her strength as important to the group. (Chapters 151, 180–181, 325, and 335)

Powers and abilities

Sophie receives Joshua's extracted SS-rank ability, the golden defensive power behind his reputation as the “world's toughest man.” The transfer succeeds because she is highly compatible with it, and her stronger spirit causes the ability to grow beyond Joshua's demonstrated level. The corpus does not supply a canonical ability name, activation phrase, or full technique list, so its mechanics should not be extended beyond exceptional bodily resilience and defensive reinforcement. (Chapters 180–181 and 202)

She also becomes a Third Dungeon explorer and eventually advances into the First Dungeon while learning Peruta Circuit from Shin. Those systems add general physical, magical, and mana-control growth, but no Sophie-specific dungeon skill is named. Her shown limitation is practical rather than supernatural: after becoming pregnant, she is removed from combat to avoid exposing both her and the child to the final wave. (Chapters 181, 279, 325, 335, and 343)

Outside combat, Sophie's strongest established ability is organizational. She manages Brightman businesses in Britain before succession, possesses greater entrepreneurial talent than Joshua, and takes over the conglomerate and national protector role after his fall. (Chapters 151 and 180–181)

Relationships

  • Edward Walker: Sophie grows up with Walker and treats him as a person rather than a family servant. Their attachment becomes an explicit engagement, shared dungeon work, and a pregnancy; Walker repeatedly protects her and remains responsible for extra duties when she must rest. (Chapters 151, 180–181, 227–232, 325, and 335)
  • Joshua Brightman: Sophie rejects Joshua's controlling behavior but still assumes responsibility after his defeat. She inherits his ability, conglomerate, and position as Britain's protector while providing for his continuing care. (Chapters 151 and 180–181)
  • Kang Shin: Shin brings Sophie Joshua's power and negotiates the Soul Contract that places her in Revival. He later teaches her Peruta Circuit and orders her out of combat during pregnancy, trusting Walker to compensate for the lost manpower. (Chapters 180–181, 279, and 335)
  • Hwaya Eleni Mastiford: Sophie serves under Hwaya's operational leadership in Revival and joins strategic discussions about Earth's crises. Hwaya congratulates her pregnancy and supports keeping her away from the final battle. (Chapters 207–335)

Items

  • Soul Contract: Sophie's initial membership, explorer appointment, and receipt of Joshua's ability are bound to a contract negotiated with Revival. Shin later removes the contracts restraining trusted members, including Sophie. (Chapters 180–181 and 264–265)
  • Dungeon equipment: Sophie uses explorer gear in Revival's operations and continues climbing afterward, but the corpus does not assign her equipment individual names or properties. (Chapters 207–232 and 325)
