Purple Dawn Bow
The Purple Dawn Bow is a powerful longbow made from Stars Wood more than a century old. Its exceptional draw weight and range make it an elite military weapon in the Heavenly Bow Empire and an early proving ground for its finest archers.
History
An elite bow and an early test
Zhou Weiqing trains with Purple Dawn Bows for two years before entering the army. Company Leader Xiao Se later uses his own bow to test whether the new recruit deserves to serve as Shangguan Bing'er's aide. Zhou draws it fully, then releases his Strength Physical Jewel and accidentally pulls it apart. The destroyed bow had been offered as the stake in their wager, so it does not return to Xiao Se's use. (Chapter 9)
Shangguan owns another Purple Dawn Bow and uses it to demonstrate how a Consolidated arrow can be fired from a physical bow. She lends it to Zhou for the Fresh Recruit Tournament, where its range lets him remove key opponents before close combat begins, and she later carries it through their raids and Heavenly Bow Unit trials. Hua Feng eventually gives her the lighter Green Spirit Bow, which Mu En identifies as better suited to her Wind Attribute and rapid-fire style; the later custody of her Purple Dawn Bow is not stated. (Chapters 10, 15–22, and 28–30)
Personal issue and army standardization
Zhou receives his own military-issued Purple Dawn Bow before a campaign. Made from five-hundred-year Stars Wood, it has almost twice the draw strength of a normal Purple Dawn Bow and supports his long-range fighting until it is swapped for a Black Dawn Bow at the Heavenly Bow Unit. Much later, the restored Heavenly Bow Empire equips its five Power Archer Battalions with well-crafted Purple Dawn Bows, showing that the weapon type remains in organized service beyond those early personal examples. (Chapters 19–31 and 266)
Abilities and properties
- A standard Purple Dawn Bow is made from hundred-year Stars Wood, weighs about twenty kilograms, requires more than one hundred kilograms of force for a full draw, and has an effective range of roughly five hundred yards before a user's Heavenly Energy extends it further. (Chapter 9)
- The bow supplies force and range, but specialized effects come from the archer, arrow, or Consolidated Equipment being fired with it. Shangguan uses it with her Silent Tracking Arrow and Rapid Fire, while Luo Ke Di demonstrates curved and multi-arrow shots through skill rather than an inherent homing property of the bow. (Chapters 10, 20, 22, and 28–29)
- Age and quality of Stars Wood materially change performance. Zhou's five-hundred-year version has nearly double the tension of an ordinary Purple Dawn Bow, while common hundred-year examples are still valuable enough to be issued only to senior officers or elite formations. (Chapters 9 and 19)
- Its strength requirement is also its limitation. Ordinary soldiers cannot reliably draw it; Shangguan replaces hers with a lighter, faster bow, and Zhou's enhanced physique becomes strong enough that careless force nearly breaks or actually destroys individual examples. It is also slower and less destructive than his Consolidated Overlord Bow. (Chapters 9, 18, 28, and 30)
