Huyan Aobo

Huyan Aobo is the Consolidating Equipment Grandmaster who recognizes Zhou Weiqing's potential before the boy understands it himself. Beneath his greed and abrasive bargaining lies a frustrated craftsman whose cultivation has capped his own achievement; he spends his wealth, knowledge, and ancestral inheritance so that Zhou can reach the God Tier height denied to him.

Biography

Turning a sale into a succession

Huyan Aobo first meets Zhou and Shangguan Bing'er when they try to buy socketed Consolidating Equipment Scrolls in Flying Hill City. Offended by Zhou's insults, he repeatedly raises the price of the Overlord Bow scroll and boasts that even the Fei Li emperor treats him courteously. The balance changes when Zhou's hidden Elemental Jewel shines through his sleeve. Spatial Attribute Heavenly Jewel Masters are extraordinarily rare, and Huyan has spent his career hoping for a disciple capable of completing the God Tier dream that an ordinary Elemental Jewel Master like him cannot. His commercial hostility therefore becomes increasingly desperate recruitment. (Chapter 13)

Zhou exploits that desperation, bargaining from a discounted scroll to free support for both himself and Bing'er. Huyan hesitates because financing Consolidated Equipment and Skill Storing could ruin him, but Feng Yu reminds him that money has always been secondary to finding an heir. Huyan finally swears on his seven Spatial Jewels to accept Zhou's conditions and protect his freedom. The discovery that Zhou possesses not only Spatial but also Wind and Time Attributes transforms reluctant acceptance into delight: Spatial permits the craft, Wind increases working speed, and Time can correct delicate errors. Huyan concludes that bankruptcy would be worthwhile if this disciple can carry his art further. (Chapters 13–14)

He also treats Zhou's secrecy as a survival issue. Huyan warns that an exposed Alexandrite Cat's Eye will attract both recruitment and assassination, advises Zhou to remain concealed in the military until he is old enough to begin formal craft training, and forbids him from casually using later Physical Jewels on unrelated equipment. His goal is not merely to own a gifted apprentice; it is to preserve the sequence needed for a complete Consolidated Equipment Set and keep Zhou alive long enough to inherit it. (Chapters 14–15)

Spending a lifetime's work on four months of training

When Zhou returns at sixteen, Huyan has just succeeded in creating a Socketing Scroll after two years of work, defying the usual assumption that only a Zong Stage master can do so. He then commits Zhou to an exhausting four-month course: eight hours of instruction, twelve hours of practice, and only four hours for rest and meals. The severity is matched by method. Huyan insists that Zhou master all 392 basic scroll forms, their designs, papers, inks, recipes, and production rhythm instead of leaping directly to impressive high-level work. In his view, advanced designs are combinations and refinements of fundamentals; without that base, even Zhou's Time Attribute would make him only a copier rather than a creator. (Chapters 34–36)

Zhou's progress validates the gamble. He produces usable beginner scrolls on his first day, reaches a success rate above sixty percent almost immediately, and completes in four months the foundation that took Huyan ten years. Huyan spends more than six million gold coins on materials, exhausting his savings, while his pride shifts from his own achievements to the disciple's. He also recognizes the physical limit of that pace: when Zhou collapses from mental exhaustion, Huyan catches him, supplies Heavenly Energy, and later regrets pushing him so hard when a cultivation breakthrough appears to become dangerous. Before Zhou leaves, Huyan transfers the ten designs and ink recipes of his lineage's unprecedented Strength-based Legendary Set. The designs have passed through twenty-one generations over roughly eleven hundred years; only the first pieces can be made by Zong Stage masters, while the later ones require God Tier craftsmanship, high cultivation, and prohibitively rare materials. Huyan gives Zhou the single inherited usable scroll as well as the designs because Zhou's one-scroll Consolidation ability can bypass much of the normal material loss. He asks only that Zhou keep practicing and eventually let him witness the completed inheritance. (Chapter 37)

Letting the disciple exceed the teacher

Huyan does not try to keep Zhou at his side. Once he has transmitted everything he knows, he accepts that Consolidating Equipment must remain a secondary profession for a Heavenly Jewel Master with Zhou's combat potential. He retires from regular production, plans to travel with Feng Yu, and sends Zhou away with supplies, the newly made Socketing Scroll, and the expectation that two hours of daily practice will preserve the craft. Their farewell is openly affectionate despite the habitual insults: Zhou kneels and kowtows, Huyan struggles not to cry, and both describe the other as a defining source of pride. (Chapters 37–38)

The consequences continue when Huyan is absent. Zhou's mastery of fundamentals lets him design individualized scrolls, evaluate costly materials, learn from God Tier masters, and pursue the profession as a way to attract followers for the Heavenly Bow Empire. He repeatedly identifies Huyan's hopes as a reason not to abandon the craft. When Duan Tianlang later recognizes the Legendary Set as their shared Legacy of Strength inheritance, Zhou refuses to reveal the final design without Huyan's permission. Even after gaining access to more advanced teachers on the XuanTian Continent, he credits Huyan's compressed instruction with giving him the knowledge and foundation needed to exchange ideas at the God Tier level. Appearance and personality

Huyan Aobo is a fat old man with a large round belly and small eyes. His bulk is so central to his appearance that Zhou repeatedly tells him to lose weight, while Huyan's Spatial movement makes the contrast between his body and speed comic. He generally presents an arrogant, impatient face to customers, but excitement makes his small eyes shine and turns his manner animated or tearful. (Chapters 13–14 and 34–38)

He is miserly, proud, abrasive, and theatrical about money, yet his stinginess is not his deepest value. Once he accepts Zhou, he is willing to spend his entire fortune on raw materials and give away an inheritance that no price could purchase. He keeps promises, regards himself as politically neutral, takes secrecy seriously, and balances ambition with concern for Zhou's health and combat cultivation. His best quality as a teacher is knowing when to insist on fundamentals and when to let a disciple leave. (Chapters 13–14 and 34–38)

Abilities and cultivation

Huyan Aobo is a seven-Jeweled Spatial Elemental Jewel Master, not a Heavenly Jewel Master. His green Cat's Eye Jewels provide pure Spatial Attribute Heavenly Energy and support abrupt short-range movement, spatial containment, and the manipulation required to make Consolidating Equipment Scrolls. The corpus does not name his individual Stored Skills, and his lack of Physical Jewels means he is not presented as a close-combat specialist; Feng Yu supplies the martial protection around their household. Consolidating Equipment craftsmanship

As a Grandmaster Consolidating Equipment Master, Huyan can design equipment, formulate Consolidating Ink, prepare papers, and create socketed scrolls that allow an Elemental Jewel to empower the finished weapon. His ordinary Grandmaster scrolls have about a one-percent Consolidation success rate. Creating them consumes both Heavenly Energy and mental focus, limiting him to roughly two or three complete sets per year; rapid or difficult work requires long recovery. His successful Socketing Scroll takes two years of repeated effort and represents the upper boundary he can reach with his cultivation. (Chapters 13, 34, and 56)

His teaching system treats the 392 basic scroll types as a complete grammar. Students must learn the construction, materials, and energy rhythm of each before combining them into higher-level designs. This method cannot remove the normal costs of paper, ink, time, and spirit, but it gives Zhou enough understanding to create equipment tailored to another Jewel Master's attributes rather than merely trace inherited patterns. Spatial control and practical limits

Huyan can use Spatial energy to vanish and reappear over short distances and to place an isolating silver barrier around a room, preventing sound from escaping during sensitive discussions. These feats make him difficult to judge by his appearance, but the corpus does not demonstrate their range, combat damage, or energy cost. His decisive limitation is cultivation: as an Elemental Jewel Master he can never supply the body, Heavenly Energy, and paired Physical Jewel control needed to reach the God Tier peak he understands theoretically. That gap is why his ambition centers on Zhou rather than on another personal breakthrough. (Chapter 14 and Chapters 35–37)

Relationships

• Zhou Weiqing: Zhou begins as an infuriating customer and becomes Huyan's chosen successor. Huyan gives him technical foundations, wealth, protection, and the Legacy of Strength designs; Zhou repays that trust by preserving the lineage, guarding its secrets, and continuing toward God Tier craftsmanship.
• Feng Yu: Feng Yu is Huyan's longtime companion, protector, and moral counterweight. He pushes Huyan to value a unique apprentice over money, helps protect Zhou during training, and plans to travel with Huyan after retirement.
• Shangguan Bing'er: Bing'er's attempt to buy a scroll brings Zhou into Huyan's workshop. Huyan ultimately supports both young Jewel Masters and gives her the Wind Wielding Boots scroll as part of the bargain that establishes the apprenticeship.
• Duan Tianlang: Duan and Huyan belong to the same Legacy of Strength inheritance. Although they are not directly reunited in the covered chapters, Duan's recognition of the designs confirms the wider lineage Huyan has entrusted to Zhou.
