Gu Yingbing

Gu Yingbing is the Lion Prince who becomes Zhou Weiqing's principal romantic rival for Tian'er. Their conflict begins inside an arranged succession bargain: Gu is expected to surrender the WanShou throne in exchange for marrying Tian'er and eventually inheriting Heavenly Snow Mountain. Although that bargain gives his courtship an unmistakably political foundation, his affection for Tian'er is genuine and rooted in their shared childhood. Losing her after three trials costs him the mountain succession and wounds his pride, but it also redirects his rivalry. Gu later becomes both Lion King and WanShou ruler, reaches the Heavenly King Stage, and challenges Zhou for personal honor rather than possession of Tian'er.

Biography

A political betrothal and a rival found at the border

Gu is Xue Ao'tian's principal disciple and the outstanding young member of the Heavenly Divine Earth Spirit Lion bloodline. By thirty-one he has eight Jewel pairs and is close to a ninth, while Xue entrusts much of Heavenly Snow Mountain's internal administration to him. His intended marriage to Tian'er is also a compact over two successions. Because the mountain does not permit a woman to inherit, Xue agrees that Gu may marry his daughter and become the next Mountain Lord only if Gu abandons his own right to rule WanShou, allowing the Tigermen to take the imperial throne. When Tian'er returns after fleeing the engagement, Gu accepts the arrangement despite knowing that she loves someone else. Ambition matters, but so does a love he traces to childhood, when he protected her, endured punishment for her mischief, and assumed that she would one day become his wife. (Chapters 155, 160)

Tian'er's return brings Gu his first knowledge of Zhou. After seeing Zhou through a Butler's stored memory, he takes two Heavenly King guards to the border and changes military deployments to search for him. A distant Heavenly Skill Image finally exposes Zhou's position. Gu insists that their confrontation is personal and fights without his escorts' help, yet the match is severely uneven: he has eight Jewels to Zhou's five and overwhelms Zhou after forcing him through most of his strongest techniques. Gu kills Zhou's companion Little Red Bean and beats Zhou brutally, but does not deliver the final blow. Tian'er has promised to return and marry him if he spares Zhou, and Gu keeps the oath even while warning that he may not show the same restraint in a later encounter. Zhou himself later judges that Gu had lacked a truly determined killing intent in this duel. (Chapters 155, 159–161, 196)

The victory does not settle the emotional contest. Gu gives Zhou Tian'er's letter asking him to let her go, while Zhou answers by promising to reach Heavenly Snow Mountain before the wedding. Gu returns to prepare for that marriage, formally steps aside as WanShou's heir, and reaches nine Jewels at thirty-two. His public status rises rather than falls: he remains Xue's favored successor and greets the arriving Saint Land guests as a dignified host. The bargain nevertheless leaves Tian'er's consent unresolved, so Long Shiya's arrival with a disguised Zhou forces Xue to replace an imposed wedding with three trials between the two suitors. Three trials, a severed arm, and Tian'er's choice

The trials strongly favor Gu: Zhou must win all three, while a single loss gives Tian'er to Gu. In the first test, each man must endure the aura of successively stronger Heavenly Beasts. Gu expects his higher cultivation and pure lion bloodline to decide the matter, and initially treats Zhou's resistance with disdain. As Zhou continues through all nine preliminary beasts, that contempt gives way to concentration and respect. Both finally face a tenth, far more oppressive aura; Gu suffers a spiritual injury and withdraws first, while Zhou remains standing long enough to claim the test. (Chapters 174–178)

The second test places Long Shiya, suppressed to the nine-Jewel limit, against Gu and Gu's father Gu Site, suppressed to eight Jewels, against Zhou. It therefore tests how each contender handles a stronger opponent rather than making the rivals fight each other. Gu's performance is overtaken by his father's violation of the rules: Gu Site breaks the seal on his cultivation and unleashes his Heavenly Emperor-level Earth Spirit Heart Flame in an attempt to kill Zhou. Long knocks Gu aside while intervening, Xue protects him, and Zhou survives because the flame cannot overcome his fire immunity. Xue awards the round to Zhou, removes Gu Site as Lion King, orders Gu to inherit the WanShou throne within a month, and bars both father and son from succeeding him as Mountain Lord. Gu does not defend the breach. He kneels, accepts responsibility for his father's act, and begs Xue for one honest final chance. When Xue refuses, Gu tears off his own left arm as payment for the wrongdoing, knowingly sacrificing the physical perfection needed for a future Heavenly God breakthrough. Xue reattaches the limb but warns that it can never be restored perfectly, then permits the final trial. Tian'er's memories are temporarily sealed so that each man has five minutes to win the trust of her childlike self. Gu recalls their childhood and tries to make her recognize the bond he believes they share, but impatience enters his appeal and frightens her. Zhou instead reawakens the emotional connection she formed with him. When Tian'er chooses Zhou and apologizes, Gu accepts the result without attacking either of them. He says that his rivalry with Zhou is not finished, tells him to protect her, and leaves while supporting his injured father. (Chapters 181–182)

A defeat that changes Zhou's method

Gu is absent from the later XuanTian expedition, but his earlier victory continues to shape Zhou's fighting. When Zhou confronts another enemy capable of neutralizing a Heavenly Skill Image, he remembers how Gu's golden-red lion image collided with the Demonic Dragon Lady image and disabled the Stored Skill before it could take effect. Zhou treats that painful defeat as a lasting tactical lesson and avoids exposing a Heavenly Skill Image unless he is confident it cannot be countered. Gu's influence on the expedition is therefore indirect but consequential: the rival who once defeated Zhou becomes one reason Zhou fights more cautiously. (Chapter 247)

Kingship, an honor challenge, and the gap he accepts

In the following two years, Gu turns humiliation into discipline. He succeeds his disgraced father as Lion King, leads the Leontropes, and becomes King of the WanShou Empire despite having originally renounced that position for the proposed marriage. Continuous instruction from Xue Ao'tian and his own intense cultivation bring him into the Heavenly King Stage, making him the youngest WanShou man publicly credited with that rank, although Tian'er has already reached it at a younger age. He still wants to defeat Zhou, but explicitly separates that desire from Tian'er: the challenge is now about the honor damaged by his earlier loss and the proof of his own growth. (Chapters 801–803)

Gu receives the arriving Saint Land delegations and confronts Zhou when the Peerless Sect appears. He proposes a battle to the death, only to discover that Zhou now leads a Saint Land and has progressed far beyond the opponent he remembers. Before their private rivalry can be resolved, the larger conflict supplies its own answer. Watching Zhou contend directly with Fen Tian at the peak of the Heavenly Emperor Stage makes Gu recognize that the distance between them has widened beyond recovery. He does not excuse the difference or diminish Zhou's achievement; he accepts that he can no longer catch him. (Chapters 803–810)

Gu's latest assignment places imperial survival above that private disappointment. Xue sends him, Tiger King Xue Aoying, and ten elite soldiers away from the main Saint Lands battlefield to reinforce the ZhongTian frontier against Dan Dun. The mission contributes military strength, but it also preserves senior WanShou heirs and fighters as a source of continuity should the assembled Saint Lands be destroyed. Gu remains alive, a Heavenly King and reigning ruler whose responsibility is no longer limited to either a marriage or a duel. (Chapter 832)

Appearance and personality

Gu is tall, broad, and powerfully built, standing roughly half a head above Zhou. He has long, brilliant golden-red hair, handsome resolute features, and an imposing dignity reinforced by light-gold clothing. At the planned wedding he wears a simple, thin golden-red robe and greets guests with a warm smile, a marked contrast to his usual haughty, heroic bearing. His Lion King Transformation exaggerates the same visual traits: his body swells, his muscles become more pronounced, and his hair spreads like a lion's mane. (Chapters 159–160, 172)

Pride governs both Gu's strongest and weakest choices. He assumes for years that childhood closeness and political approval make Tian'er his destined wife, and his sincere love consequently carries an entitled, possessive edge. He can be ruthless toward an opponent and reacts badly when the final trial slips beyond his control. Yet he keeps his promise to spare Zhou, honors the outcome when Tian'er chooses freely, and bears the cost of his father's dishonor himself instead of claiming innocence. Defeat gradually changes the object of his ambition: what begins as a contest for Tian'er becomes a drive to improve, uphold his station, and meet Zhou as a worthy rival. Gu is also an effective administrator rather than merely a proud heir. Xue entrusts him with the mountain's internal affairs before he becomes king, and his later conduct among the Saint Lands shows disciplined ceremonial and political judgment. His willingness to accept a strategic redeployment intended partly to preserve WanShou's future demonstrates the mature limit of his rivalry: personal honor remains important, but it no longer overrides responsibility for his people. Abilities and cultivation

Heavenly Energy and progression

Gu has eight Jewel pairs at thirty-one and is already near the nine-Jewel Upper Zong Stage; by the wedding preparations at thirty-two, he has completed the ninth pair. Two years after losing the mountain trials, sustained effort under Xue Ao'tian's guidance carries him into the Heavenly King Stage. His Physical Jewels are Icy Jade associated with strength, matching a direct, forceful combat style. The latest chapters establish his Heavenly King cultivation but do not show another breakthrough or document a complete later equipment set. (Chapters 155, 159, 171–172, 801–802)

Heavenly Divine Earth Spirit Lion bloodline

Gu inherits the Heavenly Divine Earth Spirit Lion bloodline, one of WanShou's premier beastman lineages. It provides unusually sharp perception—he senses the disturbance of Zhou's Heavenly Skill Image from a great distance—and supports Fire, Divine, and Spirit techniques. His Lion King Transformation activates that heritage physically, enlarging his frame, producing a mane, and greatly increasing speed, strength, Heavenly Energy, and control. The transformation's raw enhancement is described as inferior to Zhou's Demonic Change, but Gu's superior cultivation and experience still make him overwhelmingly stronger in their first duel. Gu's Spirit capabilities include a golden light from his eyes that counters Zhou's Demonic Dragon Seal and another eye-borne force that immobilizes Little Red Bean. He then spreads a golden-red net across a wide area and tears the trapped beast apart. These demonstrations show both mental defense and area control, though the supplied chapters do not give every technique a stable formal name or establish that all of them remain equally effective against opponents at his later rank. Divine defense and image countering

Divine Guardian Angel is a genuine Heavenly God Tier defensive Stored Skill that Gu acquires only with difficulty through the compatibility of his bloodline. It manifests as a golden barrier and defeats Zhou's chained Darkness and Demonic attacks through Attribute superiority. At Gu's eight-Jewel cultivation it cannot display the skill's complete power, however, and it is not invulnerable: Zhou's sustained assault and surprise Silver Emperor strike eventually shatter it and draw blood. The encounter demonstrates an exceptional defense whose performance still depends on Gu's rank, reserves, and ability to anticipate the attack. (Chapters 159–160)

Gu can also project a vast golden-red lion image to intercept another Heavenly Skill Image. Against Zhou he directs it into the Demonic Dragon Lady image, causing the two manifestations to neutralize each other and preventing Zhou's intended skill from activating. This is a countering method rather than a guaranteed victory condition: it sacrifices Gu's own image to cancel the opponent's, and Zhou later incorporates the underlying lesson into his tactics. Dragon Head Staff combat

Gu's principal weapon is a roughly four-metre Dragon Head Staff, a heavy God Tier Consolidated weapon well suited to his strength alignment. He handles its weight efficiently in close combat and can activate its imbued technique to release an enormous golden dragon, which attacks before returning to the staff. The weapon gives him reach, force, and a reusable projected attack, but his first duel also shows that equipment and cultivation advantage do not remove every risk: an unexpected high-speed strike still penetrates his defense and inflicts a minor wound. • Tian'er: Gu loves Tian'er from childhood and interprets years of protecting her as the foundation of an inevitable marriage. The political engagement reinforces that assumption despite her refusal. When a memory-sealed Tian'er chooses Zhou, Gu accepts her decision, tells Zhou to protect her, and later states that his renewed challenge is no longer an attempt to take her back.
• Zhou Weiqing: Zhou begins as the outsider threatening Gu's marriage and succession. Gu defeats and spares him at the border, loses all three mountain trials to him, and uses the defeat as motivation to reach Heavenly King. Seeing Zhou fight Fen Tian finally makes Gu accept that the rival he hoped to overtake has moved beyond his reach.
• Xue Ao'tian: Xue is Gu's master, prospective father-in-law, and the authority behind the proposed succession bargain. He strips Gu of the right to inherit Heavenly Snow Mountain after Gu Site's violation but recognizes Gu's sacrifice by allowing the final trial. He later guides Gu to the Heavenly King Stage and entrusts him with preserving WanShou's future.
• Gu Site: Gu's father is the previous Lion King and a major source of both Gu's status and his disgrace. When Gu Site breaks the rules to kill Zhou, Gu assumes responsibility and tears off his own arm to pay for the offense. He later succeeds his father as Lion King while continuing to support him personally.
• Long Shiya: Long brings Zhou to the wedding and serves as Gu's opponent in the second trial. Their nominally limited match ends when Gu Site's rule-breaking forces Long to intervene, making Long a participant in the crisis that costs Gu the mountain succession.
