Feng Yu
Feng Yu is the longtime companion and protector of Huyan Aobo. He becomes one of the first senior Jewel Masters to recognize Zhou Weiqing's unusual potential, persuading Huyan to value the boy above immediate profit and then helping keep his abilities concealed.
Biography
Recognizing a talent worth protecting
Feng Yu first intervenes when Huyan Aobo's escalating price threatens to drive Zhou and Shangguan Bing'er away. He reminds his old friend that a rare Heavenly Jewel Master apprentice matters more than money, then guides Zhou through his first use of a Consolidating Equipment Scroll. Zhou succeeds with one sheet where even a grandmaster's set normally relies on as many as one hundred attempts, convincing Feng Yu that Huyan has found an exceptional disciple. When Zhou exposes the day-and-night colors of an Alexandrite Cat's Eye, Feng Yu reacts faster than anyone else: he covers the Jewel, moves the group indoors, and recommends delaying further Skill Storing until Zhou can better defend himself. His support is therefore practical as well as enthusiastic—he understands that conspicuous talent attracts danger. (Chapters 13–15)
Two years later, Feng Yu helps evaluate Zhou's startling progress as both cultivator and Consolidating Equipment Master. He confirms that the beginner scrolls Zhou produces in seven days are genuine and joins Huyan in recognizing that ordinary estimates do not apply to him. During Zhou's apparent qigong deviation, Feng Yu prevents Huyan from injecting Heavenly Energy into a broken Dantian because it would worsen the damage. He also recognizes that Fat Cat's intervention touches on a power too dangerous to discuss and insists on silence. Once Zhou recovers and leaves for the academy, Feng Yu respects Huyan's decision not to hold him back and proposes that the two old companions finally travel the world. He has no later direct scene in the supplied corpus. (Chapters 34–38)
Appearance and personality
Feng Yu looks no older than about forty when Zhou meets him, but identifies himself as seventy-four. He explains that a Physical Jewel Master's bodily refinement slows visible aging and that Jewel Masters commonly live well beyond an ordinary lifespan. When his five-piece armor manifests, its plain, forceful design replaces the unassuming middle-aged appearance with the presence of a heavily protected warrior. (Chapters 13–14)
He is cheerful, perceptive, and less mercenary than Huyan Aobo. Feng Yu enjoys teasing his companion but also knows when to challenge him, especially when Huyan's obsession with payment conflicts with his lifelong wish for a worthy student. His caution around Zhou's Jewel and Fat Cat shows long experience: he does not demand explanations whose answers could endanger them, and he distinguishes curiosity from information best left unspoken. (Chapters 13–14, 37–38)
Abilities and cultivation
Feng Yu is an Upper Level Zong Physical Jewel Master with nine mixed Jade Jewels. Roughly one third of their coloring is Icy Jade, indicating Strength enhancement, and two thirds is Red Jade, indicating Coordination. As a pure Physical Jewel Master, he has no Elemental Jewels or Stored Skills; his advantages come from a body refined to the peak of the nine-Jewel system and from nine pieces of Consolidated Equipment. He is extremely fast over short distances and knowledgeable enough to diagnose dangerous Heavenly Energy circulation, but the corpus does not give him a full battle scene. (Chapters 13–14, 36–37)
Five of his Jewels form a linked armor set. The individual helmet, chest mirror, waistband, and paired shoulder pieces project light between them to create full-body protection, including shadow-like coverage over areas without a solid component. Huyan estimates that this lets Feng Yu survive several exchanges with an Upper Level Heavenly Zong opponent instead of being killed immediately. That comparison also states the limit clearly: even one hundred nine-Jeweled Physical Jewel Masters would probably lose to a Heavenly Jewel Master at the same upper Zong tier. (Chapter 14)
Relationships
- Huyan Aobo: Feng Yu is Huyan's longtime friend, protector, and blunt adviser. A promise keeps him at Huyan's side, but their practiced coordination and reluctance to part show a bond deeper than employment.
- Zhou Weiqing: Feng Yu teaches Zhou how to begin Consolidating Equipment, recognizes his talent, warns him to hide it, and later helps watch over his dangerous cultivation breakthrough.
- Shangguan Bing'er: Feng Yu supervises Bing'er's first Consolidating attempt alongside Zhou's and accepts responsibility for helping the pair with lower-level Skill Storing.
Items
- Unnamed five-piece Consolidated Equipment Set: A helmet, heart-protection mirror, protective waistband, and paired shoulder pauldrons link into a plain full-body suit. Four additional Consolidated Equipment pieces are implied by Feng Yu having equipment on all nine Jewels, but the corpus does not describe them. (Chapters 13–14)
