Dong Fang is Dongfang Hanyue's mother, the former master of XuanTian Palace, and the masked public figure who conceals her daughter's authority during the XuanTian expedition. Her personal name beyond the spaced form Dong Fang is not supplied. Later chapters distinguish her explicitly from both Hanyue and Hanyue's pseudonym Dreamwake.

Biography

Decoy Palace Master and dragon campaign

Hanyue herself wears the mask for Zhou's first private audience; Dong Fang takes over the public Palace Master role afterward, and Zhou notices that the voice at the welcoming banquet sounds different. Dong Fang formally presents the newly appointed Consecrated to the Palace, asks its members to treat him with the same respect they show her, and permits his public crafting demonstration. Her apparent command is genuine enough for routine Palace business, but later behavior reveals its boundary: Dreamwake gives the final answer on sensitive decisions, and both women remain with the Tenebrous Demon Dragon after other officers are dismissed. The Terror Sea Dragon threatens shipping and XuanTian Palace's authority at sea, so Dong Fang supports the decision to hunt it rather than accept further losses. She leads four Grand Elders, six Heavenly King elders, and Nie Han as the twelve anchors of the Tenebrous Demon Sealing Formation while Dreamwake and the Tenebrous Demon Dragon draw the target inside. The formation strips away outside attributes and prevents escape, but a second dragon and the first target's self-detonation overturn the plan. Dong Fang survives with the other Heavenly Emperors, protected in part by the formation they sustain, while the six ordinary Elders are killed. (Chapters 244 and 248–251)

After the survivors return, the political arrangement is stated plainly. Dreamwake is Hanyue, the true current Palace Master, while the masked Dong Fang is her mother and predecessor. Concerned that Zhou concealed nine-Jewel strength and entered under false pretenses, Dong Fang orders Shangguan Bing'er confined until the Palace can investigate. Hanyue argues that Zhou saved them and has already disclosed his purpose; Dong Fang and the Grand Elders eventually agree to release Bing'er, but Dong Fang's anger at Zhou's public threat makes her falsely claim that Bing'er is dead. The taunt nearly brings two Heavenly God dragons down upon the citadel. Seeing that Zhou can carry out his threat forces Dong Fang to retreat from wounded pride, and she later withdraws with the Elders to let Hanyue resolve the confrontation privately. Appearance and personality

As the decoy Palace Master, Dong Fang uses long blue robes and a wide azure mask that conceals the wearer's face and neck. The costume and an androgynous voice conceal the officeholder's sex; the first wearer Zhou meets is Hanyue, so the tall frame, long black hair, and immeasurable aura in that private audience cannot be assigned securely to Dong Fang herself. Once unmasked by the narrative, Dong Fang is described as a dazzlingly beautiful middle-aged woman and identified unequivocally as Hanyue's mother. (Chapters 242–243, 252, and 255)

Dong Fang is institutionally cautious, politically experienced, and deeply protective of both XuanTian Palace and her daughter. She offers Zhou unusual privilege when alliance is advantageous, but the casualties of the sea campaign make her suspicious of the power he hid. Her caution is not wholly unreasonable, yet pride makes her dangerous: a false statement spoken in anger turns a manageable house arrest into an existential confrontation. Once the actual balance of power is clear, she is pragmatic enough to end the escalation and leave the personal settlement to Hanyue. (Chapters 242–256)

Abilities and cultivation

Dong Fang is one of the five Heavenly Emperors who survive the Terror Sea Dragon's self-destruction. Like XuanTian Palace's high-level core, she carries Tenebrous power derived from the Palace's Demon Draconian lineage, though the corpus does not list her complete Personal Jewel attributes, exact Heavenly Emperor substage, or an individual Stored Skill repertoire. Tenebrous Demon Sealing Formation

Dong Fang's principal demonstrated combat role is leading one node of the twelve-person Tenebrous Demon Sealing Formation. The formation requires Heavenly King-or-higher users with the Tenebrous Attribute, prepared crystals linked to their bloodlines, and coordinated placement around the target. Once activated, it confines even a Heavenly God, excludes other attributes from its interior, and strengthens the allied Tenebrous Demon Dragon. Its critical limitation is structural: killing the anchors can break the seal, and its long preparation cannot prevent a trapped Heavenly God from choosing self-destruction. (Chapters 248–251)

Palace leadership

Her former office supplies authority rather than a supernatural effect. Dong Fang can give public recognition and direct senior Palace forces, while the mask-and-decoy arrangement protects Hanyue's identity and lets the young successor rule with a trusted predecessor's support. That structure becomes less effective once Zhou notices that decisive figures defer to Dreamwake, and it cannot override Hanyue when the daughter openly invokes the Palace Master's right to dispose of Palace resources. Relationships

  • Dongfang Hanyue: Dong Fang is Hanyue's mother, predecessor, and political cover. She supports Hanyue's concealed rule but clashes with her when institutional suspicion of Zhou conflicts with Hanyue's personal trust and strategic judgment.
  • Zhou Weiqing: Dong Fang publicly welcomes Zhou after Hanyue privately recruits him under his false God Tier Master identity. After learning how much power he concealed, she detains Bing'er for leverage; her angry lie about Bing'er's death almost converts suspicion into a war XuanTian Palace cannot survive.
  • Shangguan Bing'er: Dong Fang orders Bing'er held under house arrest as a safeguard while Zhou is investigated. The Palace does not harm her and ultimately agrees to release her, but the detention is the immediate cause of Zhou's attack on the citadel.
