Gordon
Gordon is Jason Asano's avatar-of-doom familiar, an incorporeal nebular entity whose orbiting eye-orbs project resonating and disruptive force. Initially limited to answering through coloured light, Gordon develops shield forms, butterfly manifestations and an alien ritual practice tied to Jason's changing soul. His restrained personality and precise support make him a distinct member of Jason's familiar family rather than an impersonal weapons platform. (Chapters 185, 188, 675–676, 876)
Biography
Earth’s hidden magical war
Jason arrives on Earth with Gordon's spirit preserved but without a functioning vessel. Spirit Vault gives Jason a place to conduct the material summoning, and Gordon reforms from motes of blue and orange light through a dedicated nebula gate. The reunion reveals the familiar's dependence and endurance at once: bodily destruction removes him from the fight and consumes resources to reverse, but it does not end the person Jason has named and incorporated into his household. (Chapter 260)
Gordon's quiet presence also gives Jason continuity during an increasingly unstable period. In Jason's soul garden, he follows like one of the “apocalyptic ducklings” while Shade talks Jason through family conflict and the strain of uncontrolled aura power. Gordon does not offer speeches; Jason folds him into jokes and private routines anyway. That easy inclusion matters because it treats silent participation as companionship, allowing Gordon's identity to develop without requiring him to imitate Shade's eloquence. (Chapter 315)
The familiar's battlefield role expands from relentless beams into active protection. Against gold-rank messenger anomalies, Gordon dashes to Jason, converts his orbs into layered shields and exposes his own incorporeal vessel while sheltering his summoner. Jason transfers amulet barriers to Gordon and withdraws him before the vessel is destroyed, making the exchange reciprocal rather than sacrificial. The Eye of Doom's integration into Jason's soul-linked structures during the same phase further aligns Gordon's imagery and vessel with Jason's emerging spiritual domain. (Chapters 436, 438)
Yaresh and the messenger war
In Yaresh, Gordon's status as a summoned familiar lets Jason risk the vessel while knowing its spirit returns to the astral if destroyed. That protection enables aggressive deployment, but summoning costs and lost battlefield time still make preservation important. Gordon's relationship with Jason therefore develops under the same principle as Colin and Shade's: recoverability is not disposability. Jason plans around the familiar's vulnerabilities, and the team treats Gordon's continued presence as part of its cohesion rather than a power that can be casually replaced. (Chapter 583)
During the battle for Yaresh, Gordon reveals an alien ritual discipline that changes his role from ranged pressure to large-scale magical architect. Six eye-orbs draw an immense three-dimensional orrery of glowing lines without crossing their beams. Gordon suggests the plan and builds the structure while Jason provides aura and power through his astral gate. The completed ritual breaks the messengers' harmonised spiritual suppression across the city, but its complexity and dangerous fuel requirements ensure that it is an exceptional joint undertaking rather than a routine attack. (Chapters 675–676)
Gordon's later butterfly manifestations let Jason distribute doom effects through massed enemies, but mastery arrives slowly. In the undead war, Jason finally deploys them effectively by suppressing undeath energy with his aura, seeding butterflies through captured lesser undead and throwing those carriers back into enemy lines. Gordon's development thus remains collaborative: the familiar supplies the manifestation, while Jason's control, target preparation and environmental suppression determine whether it can spread instead of being contained or destroyed. (Chapter 773)
Appearance and personality
Gordon's vessel resembles a dark, empty cloak occupied by a central blue-and-orange nebula eye. Smaller eye-shaped nebula orbs orbit it, beginning as two and increasing with rank until twelve surround his gold-rank form. He can collapse into a blue-orange cloud for rapid dashes, while the eyes become beams, explosive projectiles or shields. His body is incorporeal, making it visually magnificent but physically unlike the humanoid silhouette it loosely assumes. (Chapters 185, 188, 236, 876)
He is reserved, attentive and initially unable to speak aloud, answering yes or no by brightening a blue or orange orb. Gordon still expresses preferences—objecting to going last in a rank-up sequence and responding to Jason's teasing—long before universal speech becomes possible. At gold rank his words emerge from all twelve spheres as an angelic chorus, which masks nervousness about being understood. His understated humour shows that silence was never absence of personality. (Chapters 185, 235, 869, 876)
Magic and abilities
Familiar vessel and incorporeal movement
Gordon is a summoned avatar-of-doom familiar whose vessel scales with Jason's essence development. The body is incorporeal, so ordinary bites, weapons and physical obstacles have little effect, and water resistance does not impede him. Magic can harm him to a limited degree, with disruptive force posing the most direct threat. His ordinary movement is slow, but he can transform into a blue-orange energy cloud and dash rapidly through a battlefield, damaging enemies in the path; his orbs cannot attack while that dash is underway. (Chapters 185, 188, 197, 200)
Gordon can be subsumed into Jason's aura, making that aura harder to detect and read, then manifested through a directed projection. If the vessel is destroyed, Gordon's spirit returns to the astral and can be summoned again with material costs. The practical limit is therefore continuity of action rather than permanent death: damage can force Jason to withdraw him, and resummoning cannot repair an ongoing battle. Disruptive attacks capable of reaching incorporeal targets remain the most reliable counter. (Chapters 185, 195, 382, 583)
Resonating and disruptive force beams
Gordon's original two orbs maintain tracking beams: orange resonating force penetrates armour and punishes physically tough targets, while blue disruptive force attacks magical protection and incorporeal enemies. Each hit adds a stacking Vulnerable affliction that reduces resistances, and sustained beams add more instances. The beams are not individually overwhelming; their value is relentlessness. Targets must spend movement, shields or attention answering Gordon, allowing Jason's hit-and-run afflictions and the rest of Team Biscuit to dictate the pace. (Chapters 185, 188)
At bronze rank Gordon gains a second pair of orbs, doubling the simultaneous beams. Two orbs of the same type can fly independently, even around corners, then collide in a strong explosion. Destroying or expending an orb removes its beam until it reforms, which takes about a minute. The choice between continuous pressure and a concentrated detonation is therefore a real resource decision, and enemies who break multiple orbs can sharply reduce Gordon's immediate options. (Chapters 236, 258, 382)
Orb shields and defensive support
Gordon can reshape orbiting eyes into shields, layering them around Jason or other protected positions. The shields buy time against attacks that would otherwise land immediately, and chaining several can absorb repeated hits, but each destroyed shield leaves one fewer active orb for roughly a minute. In the fight with Gerling, three gold-rank attacks erase three shields and disruptive force nearly destroys Gordon's damaged vessel. Against messenger light, Jason must transfer external barriers to protect Gordon after every orb is committed to sheltering him. (Chapters 382, 438)
Butterflies and distributed doom
Gordon's blue-and-orange butterflies are manifestations used to carry Jason's affliction effects away from an initial target. They can be shot down by disruptive force, causing detonation, and hostile area effects destroy many before they spread. Effective use therefore requires suitable carriers, sufficient target density and conditions that do not suppress the magic. By the underground undead battle, Jason combines aura control with repeated seeding of weak enemies, turning their packed formation into a distribution network and demonstrating mature tactical use rather than an automatic mass-kill effect. (Chapters 382, 675–676, 773)
Cosmic ritual magic
Gordon can draw three-dimensional ritual structures with his eye beams, creating nested spheres, runes and moving orreries rather than the flat diagrams used by ordinary ritualists. The magic becomes available through a deeper bond with Jason, and Jason gains only an instinctive sense of how to participate; he cannot reproduce Gordon's knowledge. The Yaresh ritual projects Jason's soul and aura across the city strongly enough to break linked messenger suppression, showing immense scale when familiar, summoner and purpose align. (Chapters 675–676)
The ritual discipline has severe limitations. Its structures are extraordinarily complex, take time to draw and require power other than ordinary ambient magic. The first known use consumes dangerous reality-core energy inside Jason; the Yaresh orrery draws from his astral gate, risking catastrophic spiritual damage even through the ritual's outlet. Gordon's work is therefore strategic magic with preparation and a hazardous power source, not an attack he can deploy alone or under routine battlefield interruption. (Chapter 676)

Relationships
- Jason Asano: Jason names Gordon, interprets his light signals and builds tactics around his unrelenting pressure. Gordon protects Jason, proposes the city-scale ritual and gradually gains a voice within the bond. Their partnership combines intimacy with mechanical interdependence: Jason supplies vessel and power, while Gordon contributes knowledge Jason cannot access alone. (Chapters 185, 438, 675–676, 876)
- Shade: Shade often translates or contextualises Gordon's silent reactions and shares the work of protecting Jason. Their contrast is complementary: Shade is distributed, verbal and utility-focused, while Gordon is restrained and attack-oriented. Both nevertheless oppose being treated as replaceable summons, and both become distinct advisers as Jason's familiar household matures. (Chapters 235, 315, 869)
- Colin: Colin and Gordon occupy parallel places as manifestations of Jason's blood and doom. Colin overwhelms through contact, feeding and biomass, while Gordon pressures from range and shelters allies through orb forms. Their later domestic presence in the astral kingdom—including sharing entertainment in humanoid social spaces—shows a relationship extending well beyond coordinated violence. (Chapters 274, 869, 968)
- Farrah Hurin: Farrah fights alongside Gordon during Earth's magical war and understands the burden his power places on Jason's wider system. Gordon's precise ranged force complements her heavy elemental pressure, while both later hold intermediate Voice-like bonds to Jason without losing their separate loyalties and judgement. (Chapters 382, 750)
By Chapter 987, Gordon remains active as a gold-rank familiar in Jason's astral kingdom. Twelve eye-orbs give him a choir-like public voice, but he remains cautious about using it and retains the quiet observational temperament that defined him before speech. His current role joins ranged defence, cosmic ritual insight and companionship: he is one of Jason's powers, but also one of the people who helps decide how that power should be used. (Chapters 876, 968)
