Obitus

Obitus is a sentient Soul Weapon created by Yaleth and introduced by Hargraves Corporation as the prototype of its God Slayer Series. Henry Hargraves gives her to Neo Hargraves, whose soul she completes as a Spirit, and their linked growth turns her from a sealed experimental blade into a Stage 4 Sacred Treasure. Her Harmonization ability makes Neo's otherwise incompatible elements and advancement paths coexist, while her emotional bond with him develops into that of a fiercely protective younger family member rather than ordinary equipment. Biography

A sealed prototype and an emerging Spirit

Henry presents Obitus to Neo before the Demigod Academy's ranking tournament. The weapon is still sealed in its scabbard, but its unnatural presence unsettles Amelia de Beaufort, and Henry explains that it is a Soul Weapon designed to grow alongside its wielder. Neo accepts Henry's condition for taking it and carries Obitus through the tournament, beginning a bond that is initially more potential than partnership. Her later provenance changes the meaning of the corporate “prototype”: Yaleth is her creator, while the Hargraves project gives her a place beside the one wielder whose contradictory inheritances require her unique nature. Obitus begins asserting herself before she can fully awaken. She rouses Neo from hallucinations caused by Darkness, urges him not to abandon his vow, and follows his soul into the Underworld because a Spirit replaces part of its master's soul and becomes that person's better half. Her protectiveness is possessive as well as loyal: after Neo forms a Seed of Darkness, she devours the prospective second Spirit so that she alone will fill that role. She also attacks a powerful Underworld resident who approaches him, even though the attempt ends with Obitus being forced into sleep. Obitus grows by consuming defeated beings and shares part of that growth with Neo. Devouring a kraken and a corrupted phoenix strengthens both of them, and the phoenix supplies the final push needed for her awakening. When Neo can at last draw her blade, she takes the form of a curved black sword suited to his preferences, markedly improves his control of Death and Darkness, and links him to the Underworld strongly enough to remove the suppression placed on a kin of Death in the living world. The foundation of Neo's World Core

As Neo's advancement paths multiply, Obitus becomes the mechanism that keeps them from destroying one another. Her Harmonization allows opposed forces to coexist: Neo can wield Life and Holy elements without the lasting internal damage normally suffered by a Dark-type user, and he can remain both an Awakener connected to an external World Core and a Heavenbreaker who produces World Energy and builds his own core. Neo realizes that Henry reserved Obitus for him because her ability can reconcile the inheritances of both his parents. Obitus responds to that trust emotionally, sulking when he considers a different Sacred Treasure and brightening when he chooses her as the foundation of his future world. (Chapter 365)

Obitus is still an incomplete Sacred Treasure when Neo first plans his World Core. After gathering the required Essence, he completes her during his breakthrough. When Neo erases his memories and remains outside his sealed Cosmos, Obitus reaches the Primordial Chaos Cosmos Core and finds a portion of his Intent of Existence. Devouring it would let her become his Avatar and potentially open the Cosmos, but she cannot bring herself to consume any part of him. Believing that he may be dead or suffering beyond her reach, she treats that refusal as a moral failure, withdraws into her palace, and spends roughly a century in grief while the other Overseers fear that forcing help on her will make matters worse. Artemis, newly able to manifest, refuses to respect Obitus's isolation. She drags her into ordinary public life, keeps her talking, and finally gives her room to admit the choice and fear underneath her guilt. Artemis's reassurance, followed by the Tyrant Firmament's insistence that the Overseers are a family and that Obitus should prepare for the future rather than punish herself for an impossible action, brings her back into that community. After Neo returns, Obitus resumes her role as both companion and emotional witness. She senses the turmoil he hides after the Voraka Site, embraces him, and pushes him to reconnect with the other people in his Cosmos rather than accept his hollow claim that nothing happened. Her ability to feel his emotional condition does not let her force disclosure, but it prevents his isolation from passing unnoticed. That exchange completes a reversal of their earlier separation: when Obitus was overwhelmed, Neo's distant presence and her adopted family helped draw her back; when Neo begins to wither inwardly, she becomes the person refusing to look away. Stage 4 Sacred Treasure

Obitus reaches Stage 4 through ordinary advancement rather than the Godhood shortcut available to some Awakeners. She takes pride in earning every stage and, once reunited with Neo, eagerly explains the abilities accumulated along the way. Her Formless Blade has evolved into Formless Infinity, which enabled her to reach the core of Neo's sealed Cosmos, and her later skills cover space, soul defense, reincarnation, sword control, and battlefield containment. The most consequential Stage 4 development is End, a Partial Authority that slowly erodes targets until they die. Appearance and personality

Obitus first appears as a sheathed sword with a black cross-patterned hilt. After awakening, her blade is a slightly elongated kodachi: curved, pitch black, and visually deep enough to seem as though it draws the viewer inward. The shape adapts to Neo's preferences. Completing her Sacred Treasure transformation removes the need for a physical blade, although Neo can still feel and grasp its hilt; Obitus can also produce a tall female manifestation with long black hair, red eyes, and a mature appearance. Her earliest behavior combines fierce loyalty with childish possessiveness. She warns Neo away from surrender, attacks threats far beyond her strength, competes with other Spirits, and sulks when he considers relying on another Treasure. Powers and Soul Weapon abilities

Soul bond, growth, and Underworld connection

As Neo's Spirit, Obitus occupies and replaces a portion of his soul. The bond allows her to accompany his soul into the Underworld, communicate mentally, sense his emotional condition, and grow with him. Growth can also travel in the other direction: when Obitus uses Devour on defeated creatures, Neo receives physical and Divine Energy gains while she approaches completion. Early Devour is followed by sleep, and drawing the awakened blade consumes Neo's Divine Energy, preventing the benefits of their connection from being costless. (Chapters 66, 88, 91, 97, and 691)

While drawn, Obitus channels the Underworld strongly enough to remove the living world's suppression of Neo's Death kinship. She improves his control of Death and Darkness and can project those forces as a much larger cutting edge. Harmonization

Harmonization lets opposed forces coexist without destroying their bearer. Before it is formally named, the ability explains Neo's safe use of Life and Holy elements beside Darkness and Death. It also reconciles the mutually opposed foundations of an Awakener and a Heavenbreaker, making Obitus indispensable to his Primordial World Core. The ability preserves coexistence rather than automatically granting mastery: Neo must still acquire, train, and supply the powers being balanced. (Chapter 365)

When Obitus becomes a completed Stage 1 Sacred Treasure, Harmonization awakens and can be applied to other people. At Stage 2, Obitus awakens Dimensional Shift, which freely distorts nearby space, and Death Mirror, which reflects curses and soul attacks toward their source. At Stage 3, Reincarnation Binding tags an enemy soul so that death cannot be followed by reincarnation or reformation until Neo or Obitus releases it. The latter controls what happens after a tagged target dies rather than killing that target by itself. (Chapter 693)

At Stage 4, Sword Legion injects Obitus's will into surrounding blades, allowing her to control them and potentially expose armed enemies. Oblivion Bloom creates a domain comparable to a God's World, concentrating her attacks and isolating their destructive effects from the surrounding environment. Partial Authority of End

End is an incomplete Authority that steadily erodes affected things toward death. Its initial effect resembles Death element, but its classification as an Authority gives it a different growth path from an ordinary technique. Obitus can channel it through her blade and oppose other Authorities; against a complete corruptive Authority, however, End is forced back because it remains partial.
