Jives
Jives is a high-class fire spirit and rank-four representative who attends the expanded Demon World Auction. Faced with losing the Great Fire Essence, he contracts with Randalph Brigsiel instead of sacrificing his rank or accepting the dark spirits' control. He later escorts Randalph to Fire Spirit King Garrash and remains an active intermediary between contractor and king.
Biography
Contract at the Demon World Auction
Jives introduces himself while studying Randalph as a potential powerhouse, then joins Kerpi in treating him as their safest ally inside the dark spirits' castle. The auction exposes a trap: to reclaim the Great Fire Essence, Jives must sell part of his rank or form a contract that the dark spirits expect to control. Randalph's warnings reveal that manipulation, so Jives rejects the intended partner and chooses Randalph instead. The demon buys the essence for fifteen million points, completing a contract whose strength depends on the purchase price and preserving Jives's rank while restoring a sacred fire-spirit treasure. (Chapters 154–159)
Jives arrives with elite fire spirits prepared to fight their way out and departs after promising to report Randalph's name to Garrash. When summoned later, he confirms that the elemental parties escaped and recognizes the exceptionally high contract attached to Randalph. Because a request involving the fire spirits exceeds his own authority, he immediately reports to the king, returns with an invitation, and guides Randalph through the Fire Spirit World. He also recommends contracts with subordinate spirits and a spirit seed, linking the auction bargain to the later growth of Randalph's spirit forces. (Chapters 159–160 and 167–168)
Appearance and personality
Jives appears broadly human but slightly fuzzy, a trait shared by the fire and water representatives when they answer Randalph's call. He is referred to as male, and his expressions shift openly from menace and anger to determination, gratitude, and satisfaction. The corpus provides no stable details of his clothing or facial features. (Chapters 154, 157–159, and 167)
He is proud and confrontational, initially eyeing Randalph as though he wants to test another strong being. He nevertheless adjusts when presented with evidence, resists Dubolong's pressure, and places collective fire-spirit interests above personal rank. His confidence is practical rather than empty: he brings elite troops to hostile territory, prepares for an escape, and defers questions outside his office to Garrash instead of pretending to possess royal authority. (Chapters 154–159 and 167)
Abilities and powers
High-class fire-spirit rank
Jives is identified as a high-class fire spirit and a rank-four figure with subordinate spirits under him. That standing makes his rank valuable at auction and enables him to represent a substantial fire-spirit force, but the cited scenes do not show a named personal attack or define a numerical combat ceiling. (Chapters 157–159)
Contract perception and mediation
Jives can sense the familiar quality of Randalph's spirit contract and distinguish that it is of the highest level. His own contract permits Randalph to call him, with the right to use his power tied to the points spent acquiring the Great Fire Essence. In practice, his clearest contributions are diplomatic: he carries requests to Garrash, returns with answers, and guides the contractor through the king's domain. (Chapters 158–159 and 167)
