Memorial Crystal: Apito
Memorial Crystal: Apito is a divine crystal containing knowledge, spells, or memories associated with the goddess Apito. Its existence is anomalous because Apito is not known to be dead, and its behavior does not initially match the ordinary charging rules for memorial crystals. It ultimately protects Prepotente and his companions during Scolopendra’s attacks before a deity steals it.
History
The Masquerade prize
The crystal first appears in Queen Imogen’s Butcher’s Masquerade prize case as a colorless, glowing gem about the size of a grape. At one hundred hunter hands it is the most expensive prize. Mordecai explains that memorial crystals are made by fallen gods or demigods and can contain god-tier spells, information, and knowledge; they are normally mounted in equipment or jewelry and charged through killing. No crawler can afford this one, so it returns to Imogen, and Osvaldo loots it after her death. Competing quests subsequently direct Carl and apparently Prepotente toward obtaining it. (Chapters 211, 219, and 226)
The crystal remains with Osvaldo through the following floors. When Yarilo emerges from the Nothing, it activates without being charged, throwing an uncontrollable prismatic beacon into the sky and changing the nearby vegetation. The event identifies the item specifically as Apito’s crystal and exposes its location, but it does not make its stored contents accessible. (Chapter 367)
An anomalous inheritance
Osvaldo eventually gives the crystal to Prepotente after Tupa warns that it is wrong or corrupted. Set in a simple silver necklace, it remains at zero percent despite Osvaldo wearing it during kills and later storing it in inventory. Prepotente lends it to Carl only for inspection and retains custody because his quest tells him to hold it until he knows when to use it. Its spontaneous response to Yarilo and the absence of any confirmed death for Apito make the item evidence of a divine mystery, not merely a conventional source of lootable abilities. (Chapters 435 and 465)
During the Scolopendra operation, the crystal finally begins charging from the divine attacks rather than ordinary kills. While Prepotente wears it, it protects him and others sharing the same mount or enclosed vehicle; after an attack it reads 11.1 percent charged, and all twenty-two crawlers and mercenaries later crowd into his recreational vehicle to remain within its protection. Near the end of the operation, an unidentified deity takes the crystal directly from Prepotente’s neck. Prepotente reports that it had continued charging and insists it must be recovered, but the supplied corpus ends without its return. (Chapters 477, 491, and 494)
Abilities and properties
- Like other memorial crystals, it is expected to hold a fallen divine being’s spells, skills, knowledge, or memories, which can be extracted after a complete charge. Its exact contents are not extracted within the supplied corpus. (Chapters 211, 465, and 494)
- Conventional kills do not charge Apito’s crystal while Osvaldo wears it, and keeping it in inventory also has no effect. Its displayed charge remains at zero percent until the Scolopendra operation. (Chapters 435 and 465)
- The crystal can activate independently: Yarilo’s emergence causes a brilliant beacon and rapid plant growth without adding a visible charge. The holder does not control this response. (Chapter 367)
- Scolopendra’s attacks charge the crystal and trigger a protective effect. The protection extends to people inside the same mount or building as Prepotente, making shared shelter important. (Chapters 477 and 491)
- The crystal is unusually warm and heavy for its size, changes color, and is mounted in silver on a simple chain. (Chapter 465)
- Its existence is unexplained because Apito is not known to be dead. Characters infer a connection among Apito, Yarilo, and Scolopendra, but the supplied corpus does not establish the complete cause. (Chapters 465, 477, and 494)

| Prepotente | Receives the crystal from Osvaldo, wears it as a necklace, and uses its protection during the Scolopendra operation. |
| Unidentified deity | Removes the crystal from Prepotente’s neck during the finale and remains its latest known custodian. |
