Signet

Tsarina Signet is a tattoo-covered half-naiad who rebels against the circus and later joins Carl against Queen Imogen. Her living tattoos preserve allies and family as both memory and weapon, making her final sacrifice an attempt to restore what the dungeon has taken from others. (Chapters 54–58, 173, 215–219)

Biography

The Circus and the Iron Tangle

Signet begins as a wanted former circus performer leading a magical battle squad against Grimaldi's decaying operation. She captures Carl and Donut with paralysis but bargains with them when their goals align, lending her animated drawings to the assault and promising Donut's freedom if Carl dies. The alliance breaks the circus's immediate control and establishes Signet as an enemy of its imposed story. (Chapters 54–61)

The Hunting Grounds and the Masquerade

On the sixth floor, Signet emerges from hiding with a mixed community of were-castors, elves, animals, and other forest inhabitants. She cooperates with Carl against hunters and Imogen, while her tattoos cannot directly harm the queen and must create openings for others. At the Masquerade she rejects the judges' claim that her world and dead family are unreal, then uses herself as the sacrifice needed to reunite Tina with Kiwi and help defeat Imogen. (Chapters 157–159, 199, 215–219)

The Eighth Floor and Bedlam

After Signet's death, Carl carries the body of her mother, Princess Lunette, which Signet entrusted to him for Samantha. Her explanation of the All Tree and Grimaldi's transformation also continues guiding later plans. These appearances are legacy and custody scenes, not evidence that Signet returned to life. (Chapters 247, 253)

Faction Wars at Larracos

Signet's contractual storyline remains active even though she cannot return, and Sensation Entertainment tries to force a third season around her absence. Edgar later uses her tattoo traditions in medical and battlefield work, while Lunette's body remains a concrete inheritance from Signet. Her death therefore shapes later obligations without changing her status. (Chapters 297, 379, 389)

Appearance and personality

Signet is a horned, elf-like half-naiad with a more monstrous naiad face and much of her body covered in animated tattoos. She is direct, proud, tired of running, and fiercely loyal to the memories carried on her skin. Her attraction and paralysis magic can unsettle others, but her defining trait is the refusal to accept that her family and companions are disposable fiction. (Chapters 54, 157, 210, 215)

Skills, class, and abilities

Ink Marauder lets Signet animate blood-powered drawings and tattoos as two-dimensional fighters; sufficiently important sacrifices can produce more complete manifestations. She commands many stored figures, uses paralysis and charm effects, and coordinates the battle squad without spoken orders. The constructs drain her blood, fade after a limited time, and can be barred from directly harming protected targets such as Imogen. (Chapters 57–58, 61, 173, 217)

Relationships

  • Princess Lunette: Signet preserves an incomplete tattoo-memory of her murdered mother and eventually entrusts Lunette's recreated body to Carl. (Chapters 215, 247, 389)
  • Edgar: Edgar finds Signet after Lunette's death and becomes the artist and keeper who helps her memories live as tattoos. (Chapters 173, 215, 389)
  • Carl and Donut: They begin as captives and bargaining partners, then become allies Signet trusts with her final plan and her mother's body. (Chapters 58, 199, 215–219)

Items

Signet has no planned inventory-item links. Her tattoos are integrated magical memorials rather than separate carried inventory; Princess Lunette's body passes into Carl's custody after Signet's death. (Chapters 215, 247)
