Edgar

Edgar is a talking tortoise whose blood-and-memory tattoo craft preserves Signet's dead and later supports Princess Posse medicine and reconnaissance. Slow in movement but precise in judgment, he carries an art that can turn remains into living memorials and functional magic. (Chapters 159, 173, 315, 389)

Biography

The Hunting Grounds and the Masquerade

Edgar belongs to Signet's mixed forest community and tattoos new figures onto her body using a silver needle and the remains of the dead. His earlier work preserved an incomplete memory of Signet's mother after finding the orphaned half-naiad. During the Masquerade, his maps and craft help the coalition understand protected rooms and keep Signet's stored companions relevant to the plan. (Chapters 159, 173, 215)

Faction Wars at Larracos

Edgar becomes both medic and scout. He guides Katia's dangerous treatment, marks enemy positions such as Epitome Tagg, and participates in the surgery that removes Louis's organs without triggering prohibited attacks. When Princess Lunette's recreated body appears, his old decision to preserve Signet's mother becomes the basis for a new rescue attempt. (Chapters 315, 365, 379, 389)

Appearance and personality

Edgar is a talking tortoise whose small body and slow walk contrast with the urgency of his work. He manipulates tools with his mouth and speaks carefully, with a clinician's attention to risk. His compassion is practical: he cannot truly resurrect the dead, but he preserves what memory and function remain. (Chapters 173, 315, 389)

Skills, class, and abilities

Edgar creates magical tattoos by drawing material from remains through a needle-like implement. The tattoos can preserve memories, animate figures, and carry specialized functions, but incomplete or long-dead sources yield incomplete results. He also maps protected zones, marks targets for allies, and has enough medical knowledge to assist complex magical surgery. His slow movement limits emergency response. (Chapters 173, 215, 315, 365, 389)

Relationships

  • Signet: Edgar finds Signet after her mother's death and gives her the first memorial tattoo, becoming the craftsperson behind her living archive. (Chapters 173, 215, 389)
  • Princess Lunette: He preserves an incomplete version of Lunette in tattoo form, enabling Signet's later attempt to restore her mother through a recreated body. (Chapters 215, 389)
  • Katia and Louis: Edgar applies his medical knowledge to Katia's treatment and Louis's dangerous organ-removal procedure. (Chapters 315, 389)

Items

Edgar has no planned inventory-item links. His silver tattoo needle or stick is his principal tool, but it is not separately named or given a custody history in the supplied corpus. (Chapter 173)
