Osvaldo
Osvaldo is a Brazilian Curupira Ranger who loots Apito's memorial crystal from Queen Imogen and spends subsequent floors resisting attempts to take it. His speed, dexterity, and determination to remain independent carry him through the eleventh-floor race to the twelfth-floor portals. (Chapters 219, 226, 367, 434, 478)
Biography
The Hunting Grounds and the Masquerade
Osvaldo emerges from the Masquerade as a level-60 Ranger after looting Queen Imogen, including the memorial crystal sought by both Carl and Prepotente. That possession makes him important to divine quests he did not choose, and his decision to keep it creates a long-running conflict with more powerful crawlers. (Chapter 219)
The Eighth Floor and Bedlam
Osvaldo travels with the fire-breathing lizard Gimli and competes for eighth-floor keys. He and Jurgen enter a card battle, but after Jurgen breaks the stairwell enclosure they cooperate to clear the rubble, prioritizing escape over their immediate rivalry. (Chapters 226, 231, 283–285)
Faction Wars at Larracos
Osvaldo avoids being conscripted into an army and rides out the war in the woods with his own crew. Carl and Prepotente postpone confronting him because larger battles take priority, while Osvaldo continues openly resenting their quest claims. His independence prevents either side from converting the crystal dispute into a forced alliance. (Chapters 367, 383)
The Parade of Horribles
By the eleventh floor Osvaldo is a level-72 Curupira with red hair, extraordinary dexterity, and a tough mount. The crystal eventually activates on its own without behaving as promised, vindicating some of his frustration but not resolving ownership. In the final heat he uses Launch to fling himself from his vehicle through the portal cluster, successfully reaching the twelfth-floor exit. (Chapters 434, 465, 478)
Appearance and personality
Osvaldo is a small, mostly human-looking Curupira with bright red hair that Carl suspects is part of the race transformation. He is angry, independent, and distrustful of stronger crawlers who treat his possession as their quest object. His willingness to work with Jurgen when trapped shows that stubbornness does not prevent practical cooperation. (Chapters 283, 383, 434)
Skills, class, and abilities
As a Ranger, Osvaldo uses a familiar or companion, ranged-field awareness, and exceptional movement. His Launch spell and supernatural dexterity let him separate from a vehicle and reach an elevated exit with precision. The ability requires a valid race vehicle or mount under the final rules, and no complete spell list or level history between 60 and 72 is supplied. (Chapters 219, 226, 434, 478)
Relationships
- Gimli: The fire-breathing lizard is Osvaldo's companion and helps his team in card battles. (Chapters 226, 231)
- Prepotente: Prepotente has a divine quest for the memorial crystal Osvaldo holds, creating sustained hostility without an on-page resolution. (Chapters 367, 383, 465)
- Jurgen: Osvaldo and Jurgen shift from card-battle enemies to joint demolition workers when both need the stairwell cleared. (Chapters 283–285)
Items
Osvaldo has no planned inventory-item links. Apito's memorial crystal is his central possession after the Masquerade; it resists expected charging behavior and later activates independently. Its custody after Osvaldo reaches the twelfth-floor portal is not stated. (Chapters 219, 367, 465, 478)
