Wang Zhanyu

Wang Zhanyu is the three-hundred-year-old patriarch and principal deterrent of Clear River’s Wang Clan. His attempt to eliminate Su Chen breaks the balance between the city government and the Bloodline Nobility Clans, ultimately leaving him to exchange his own life for his clan’s survival. (Chapters 380, 450–503)

Biography

Patriarch of the Clear River coalition

As host of the Bloodline Nobility Clans’ coalition meeting, Wang Zhanyu stands above the Wang Clan as its “irreplaceable pillar.” His three Lotus Platforms make him the strongest Light Shaking cultivator in the coalition and a cornerstone of its ability to resist An Siyuan. That position also makes him a source of intelligence for allied patriarchs: after observing Su Chen’s consciousness attack, he warns Shen Yuanhong about it. His authority rests on personal cultivation as much as clan leadership, so any intervention by him carries consequences for the entire coalition. (Chapters 380, 461, 480, and 492)

The Southern Mountains ambush

Unable to ignore his descendants’ pleas and the threat Su Chen poses to clan interests, Wang Zhanyu personally attacks him outside Clear River. He demolishes the Soaring Pavilion and bombards the surrounding area when Su Chen escapes, then posts a reward and orders Wang Peiyuan to seal the Southern Mountains. Pride, expended Origin Energy, and reluctance to appear as though he is reclaiming his own reward lead him to withdraw temporarily rather than continue the pursuit. Su Chen survives and turns the hunt against the coalition’s forces, making the patriarch’s intervention both a failed assassination and the rule-breaking act that gives An Siyuan grounds to constrain him. (Chapters 450–456)

The attack permanently changes Su Chen’s preparations and political aims. An Siyuan confronts Wang Zhanyu and keeps him under observation, preventing the coalition’s strongest expert from intervening freely while Su Chen kills Shen Yuanhong, incapacitates Wei Pei, and attacks the clans below the Light Shaking level. Wang remains the coalition’s decisive deterrent, but that same concentration of power isolates him: once his peers are dead, wounded, or neutralized, Su Chen makes Wang’s death a condition of peace. Encirclement and sacrifice

When government troops surround the Wang residence, Wang Zhanyu admits that attachment to his sons and grandsons drew him into affairs an ancestor should have left to later generations. He initially holds out in hope that the other clans will break the encirclement, but successive reports of surrender and destruction eliminate that possibility. He offers businesses, territory, treasures, and clan techniques, seeking a settlement that preserves both himself and his descendants. An Siyuan briefly considers an arrangement that would keep Wang as a counterweight to Su Chen, but Su Chen’s return removes that political opening. (Chapter 501)

Wang then asks whether surrendering everything and killing himself will guarantee the Wang Clan’s safety. Once An Siyuan and Su Chen accept, he thanks them and strikes his own forehead. His death ends the prolonged struggle between the nobility coalition and the city government, leaving An Siyuan dominant in Clear River. The choice does not redeem the ambush that caused the crisis, but it shows that the family loyalty behind his intervention also determines his final act. (Chapters 502–503)

Appearance and personality

Wang Zhanyu is already three hundred years old when introduced but retains an excellent physique. The corpus gives no further fixed details about his face, hair, clothing, or bloodline manifestation. (Chapter 380)

He is proud, status-conscious, and protective of his clan. He avoids publicly competing for his own reward and expects descendants to handle opponents below his station, but he also acknowledges his mistake once the consequences become unavoidable. His caution after expending energy, willingness to use political connections, and extended surrender negotiations show calculation rather than simple recklessness. His last decision places the Wang Clan’s survival above his own life. (Chapters 451, 486, and 501–502)

Abilities and cultivation

Wang Zhanyu is a three-Lotus Platform Light Shaking Realm cultivator. The corpus does not identify his bloodline, cultivation method, the origin of his Lotus Platforms, or the stages by which he reached the realm.

Three Lotus Platforms

Each additional Lotus Platform produces a major increase in Light Shaking power, and Wang’s three place his combat strength above that of the one-platform Uncle Eleven despite Uncle Eleven’s Demonic Emperor bloodline. Wang can fly, command storms and flames through Origin Energy, and release repeated palm strikes over a wide area. His bombardment around the Soaring Pavilion flattens roughly a thousand-foot area, while a single palm is strong enough that Su Chen’s Primordial Blood Incarnation can withstand only one clean hit rather than a rapid sequence. (Chapters 450–461)

His reserves are formidable but finite. Nearly ten large palm strikes consume enough Origin Energy that he chooses to recover rather than risk continuing the mountain pursuit in a weakened state. Su Chen’s Fata Morgana can also freeze him briefly, although an outside impact wakes him and no lasting consciousness injury is shown. The corpus does not establish a named personal technique for those palm and flame attacks, their maximum range, or whether his offered clan arts are all abilities he personally mastered. Political and tactical constraints

Wang’s cultivation cannot be separated from the legal and military setting in which he uses it. An Siyuan has only two Lotus Platforms, but imperial Origin Tools, official status, and a large force make direct victory uncertain and turn an attack on his carriage into a crime. Once An Siyuan contains Wang while Su Chen dismantles the other clans, raw superiority in Lotus Platforms cannot solve Wang’s isolation. His latest confirmed use of force is the self-inflicted palm that kills him; no survival technique, clone, or later continuation is recorded. (Chapters 486–487 and 501–503)

Relationships

• Wang Peiyuan: Wang Zhanyu is Wang Peiyuan’s father and directs him to organize the Southern Mountains pursuit. His frustration with Peiyuan and the other descendants reflects his expectation that they should handle enemies beneath a patriarch’s station. (Chapters 451 and 455)
• Su Chen: Wang’s failed assassination makes him Su Chen’s principal Light Shaking threat and teaches Su Chen to carry stronger emergency medicines. Su Chen later insists that Wang must die before peace in Clear River can be secure. (Chapters 450–456, 492, 533, and 586)
• An Siyuan: Wang is the strongest private counterweight to the City Lord. An Siyuan uses official authority and imperial equipment to contain him, then accepts Wang’s suicide as the price for sparing the clan. (Chapters 483–486 and 501–503)
