Ma Renze
Ma Renze was the Immortal Temple's senior representative in Long Coiling City. He replaced negotiation with threats when dealing with Su Chen, then became the aggressive piece Su used to provoke conflict between the Temple and the Zhu faction. His campaign ended when Shi Kaihuang suppressed him and Yue Longsha executed him for her father's murder. (Chapters 235–255)
Biography
Coercion and a manipulated war
Ma Renze arrived to take control of the Temple's dealings with Su Chen and attempted to seize his medicines through status and intimidation. Su answered by demonstrating that he knew the branch's local node and could expose its operations. Rather than restore a workable partnership, Ma's hostility made him vulnerable to Su's larger deception: manipulated evidence and an Imaging Disk presentation led the Immortal Temple and the Zhu party to blame one another, while Su benefited from the resulting violence. Ma led an ambush and fought the Zhu faction's experts, including Uncle Eleven, but sustained grave injuries during the confrontation. Shi Kaihuang then intervened and prevented his escape. Yue Longsha, whose father Ma had killed, personally beheaded him. His death removed the Temple's hard-line Long Coiling leader and completed the immediate revenge behind Yue's participation, while also illustrating how easily Ma's aggression could be redirected by an opponent who understood both factions. Appearance and personality
Ma Renze had a long, horse-like face. His manner was cold, coercive, arrogant, and cruel; he treated rank and force as reasons others should comply and showed little interest in the softer bargaining used before his arrival. These traits made him dangerous in direct confrontation but predictable in Su Chen's political trap. (Chapters 235–242)
He was not incapable of tactical retreat, as shown by his attempts to conceal himself and escape once stronger intervention turned the battle. Nevertheless, his governing impulse was domination. Abilities and cultivation
Ma Renze was a Light Shaking Realm cultivator. His Armor-Piercing Awl concentrated force to penetrate flesh and heavy defense; the technique could be learned without a bloodline by cultivators at Yang Opening or above. Later demonstrations by Su Chen show that the art consumes substantial Origin Energy and life force, but the precise cost Ma personally paid for using it is not quantified. His Concealing Smoke transformed his body into smoke for infiltration or escape. Shi Kaihuang's Nirvana Hand countered it by forcing the dispersed smoke to congeal into a physical form, exposing a direct limitation against superior control. Ma also possessed a starry concealment or escape method that had previously helped him leave the Hidden Dragon Institute. No bloodline, weapon specialization, cultivation progression, or recovery method is established. (Chapters 252–254)
Relationships
- Su Chen: Ma tries to force Su into surrendering medicine and knowledge. Su instead exploits his temper, intelligence network, and rivalry with the Zhu faction, turning Ma into an unwitting participant in a fabricated conflict. (Chapters 235–255)
