Human Ancestor

The Human Ancestor is the last survivor of the ancient Immortals and the hidden architect of humanity’s recovery. For ages he works through the guise of an old beggar, granting selected people unusual opportunities while concealing himself inside the Dream God. His intervention gives Su Chen the Arcanist Eye and ultimately helps humanity restore immortal cultivation and defeat the returning gods.

Biography

Silence and the rebirth of humanity

Before becoming the Human Ancestor, he is an Immortal who enters the Dream God’s body and reemerges as an unusually independent Dream Spirit called Silence. He helps the surviving Immortals communicate and rebel, but the gods answer by exterminating them. Devastated yet unwilling to surrender, Silence enters the corpse of a defective Immortal who could never cultivate immortal energy. In that crippled body he becomes the last living human, reproduces through the Dream Spirits’ methods, and creates descendants who retain an attenuated Immortal bloodline. Their inability to wield immortal energy protects them from recognition, while the remote possibility of recovering that power gives him a reason to continue resisting. (Chapters 1153–1154)

Dividing the gods and sowing opportunities

The Human Ancestor cannot defeat the gods directly, so he engineers conditions in which their enemies and scarcity will do the work. He lets the Blood Ancestor consume him, awakens intelligence in that Origin Beast, escapes through one of its bat-like clones, and repeats the intervention until the Origin Beasts can deliberately sever Kun’s territory from the Origin Realm. He then follows the trapped gods, enters the wounded Dream God, and quietly magnifies divine jealousy and anger until the Twilight of the Gods leaves only a small remnant bound by the Eternal Treaty. Once the Dreamrealm gives his consciousness a route back to humanity, he uses Dark Astral blood to form temporary bodies and gradually changes strategy: instead of dictating a path he can no longer cultivate himself, he grants selected people unusual capacities and lets them determine what those gifts become. His indirect influence also helps inspire the consciousness converter and bloodline extraction instruments. (Chapters 1154–1156)

The old beggar’s chosen seedlings

During one descent to Northface City, the old beggar hears twelve-year-old Su Chen question the accepted history of the bloodline extraction instrument. Pleased by the boy’s observation and desire to understand, he replaces Su Chen’s eyes with his treasured Arcanist Eye, causing three years of blindness but eventually giving him microscopic perception. The apparent cruelty also supplies the hope that keeps Su Chen from surrendering. The Human Ancestor makes comparable interventions over the centuries, including giving Li Daohong the Attendant’s Brain, but most recipients use their gifts for personal advancement. Only after Su Chen creates cultivation paths that strengthen humanity as a whole does the Human Ancestor identify him as the long-awaited seed capable of becoming a sheltering tree. When they finally speak openly, he warns that the gods will return sooner than expected, reveals the largest fracture in the Barrier, and teaches Su Chen a projection method so he can infiltrate Kun’s territory. Victory over Dream and the divided epilogue

At the final confrontation, the Human Ancestor reveals that he has existed for tens of thousands of years as the hidden half of the Lord of the Dreamrealm. He insists on settling that shared existence himself: inside the Infinite Delusion he can use the divine body’s full strength, turns accumulated mortal resentment into Grudge Strands, and uses a strand of immortal energy prepared by Su Chen to devour Dream’s divine power. His victory leaves him controlling the sole surviving divine body, after which he joins Su Chen against the other gods and then withdraws to Heaven’s Column Mountain rather than compete for leadership of humanity. Millennia later, however, another consciousness briefly awakens in that body, retrieves a time-aligned staff containing dormant projections of the Mother and Moon Goddesses, and promises the gods’ return before the Human Ancestor’s peaceful expression resumes. Appearance and personality

In the present era, the Human Ancestor usually appears as a short, unkempt old beggar with a red drinker’s nose, ragged clothes, and a foul smell. His first meeting with Su Chen also includes a broken bowl and a deliberately pitiful, trembling manner. This aged form is practical rather than natural: weak bodies require less energy for his temporary descents, and the beggar identity lets a stranger move among humans without needing an established place in society. The corpus does not give a stable description of his original Immortal body or his appearance after taking control of Dream’s divine body. (Chapters 1, 1086, and 1156)

His defining traits are patience, secrecy, and devotion to humanity on a civilizational scale. Compassion initially drives him to save individuals, but repeated disappointment teaches him to offer opportunities without controlling the recipient’s choices. That distance makes him capable of waiting for ages and sacrificing Dream Spirits during his final battle, while his hatred of the gods remains uncompromising. With Su Chen he is affectionate, encouraging, and unusually candid, yet even that bond does not override his belief that humanity must create its own future. (Chapters 1107 and 1154–1157)

Abilities and cultivation

The Human Ancestor’s capabilities change with each body he inhabits. He begins as an Immortal, loses the ability to cultivate immortal energy after repeated bodily transformations, survives as a consciousness inside other beings, and finally takes control of a high-tier god’s body. The source therefore does not assign him one stable cultivation realm.

Immortal origin and adaptive consciousness

As Silence, he can abandon one vessel and preserve his consciousness in another compatible lifeform. Entering the Dream God first makes him a Dream Spirit; being consumed by the Blood Ancestor later lets him seed a new consciousness and escape through a blood-born clone. His final entry into the wounded Dream God is more complete: their vitality becomes linked, preventing either will from separating without mutual death. This adaptability preserves him through repeated apparent deaths, but every host changes what he can do and can also imprison him, as shown by the millennia he spends unable to leave Dream’s body. He retains knowledge of immortal energy but cannot generate it after losing his original Immortal constitution and becoming corroded by faith. In the final duel, he instead uses one strand supplied by Su Chen as a seed that consumes divine power. The tactic succeeds spectacularly inside the Dreamrealm, where an actual strand of immortal energy has disproportionate force, but it is borrowed preparation rather than restored personal cultivation. Projections and bestowed opportunities

The Human Ancestor’s projection method sends a strand of will through the Barrier, the one type of power capable of crossing it. A projection must enter a host and be nourished by vitality, and he normally has to live through that host’s entire life before forming another, which explains his infrequent appearances. Earlier blood-based manifestations also depend on physical material converted into consciousness form by Dark Astrals. As the Barrier weakens, projections become easier to create and can persist longer, but they still carry a significant cost; shielding Su Chen’s projected blood essence leaves the Human Ancestor unable to help again for some time. Through these bodies he can alter a chosen person and grant a specialized opportunity, including Su Chen’s Arcanist Eye and Li Daohong’s Attendant’s Brain. He also transmits information directly into Su Chen’s forehead and teaches the projection method by the same means. The exact process used to create or transplant every gift is not explained, and the gifts do not control the recipient’s values. Their greatest limitation is therefore human choice: many of his selected “seedlings” become powerful without contributing to humanity’s broader development. (Chapters 1, 1087, 1107–1108, and 1156)

Dream influence and divine combat

While hidden within Dream, the Human Ancestor can move through dreams and subtly amplify jealousy, anger, hatred, and frustration. He uses that influence to worsen divine conflicts and plants the idea of the aggregate Dreamrealm in his host’s mind, diverting the gods from breaking the Barrier while creating a network that later supports his projections. He must act sparingly because the Dream God can sense unexplained activity and because the Eternal Treaty restricts direct incitement. His success consequently depends on nudging desires that already exist rather than simply commanding another god. (Chapters 1155–1156)

Inside the Infinite Delusion, the Human Ancestor can wield the shared divine body at full strength, summon Dream Spirits as soldiers, use elemental manifestations similar to Dream’s, and form Grudge Strands from hatred and resentment gathered during his travels. Those strands suppress battle spirit and thus consciousness strength, making them especially effective in the Dreamrealm, though Dream can break them by revealing his true body and drawing on the realm’s greater reserves. After defeating Dream, the Human Ancestor inherits the Lord of the Dreamrealm’s immense consciousness power and uses it against the remaining gods. Outside the shared body or its consciousness realm his strength is diminished, and the final hidden-will episode leaves his lasting control uncertain. (Chapter 1157)

• Su Chen: The Human Ancestor first treats Su Chen as one promising seed among many, giving him the Arcanist Eye after hearing him challenge accepted history. Su Chen’s decision to build cultivation systems for humanity fulfills the purpose behind that gift, leading the Ancestor to warn him about the Barrier, teach him projection, and support his attack on Kun’s territory. Their final alliance restores immortal cultivation, though the Human Ancestor deliberately withdraws once humanity no longer needs his leadership. (Chapters 1, 1087, 1107–1108, and 1156–1157)
• Dream God: Dream first produces the Dream Spirit called Silence and later becomes the vessel in which the Human Ancestor hides. Their linked vitality turns them into two wills sharing one divine body: the Human Ancestor manipulates Dream’s ambitions for millennia, while Dream repeatedly tries to expel him. Their conflict ends when the Human Ancestor destroys Dream’s dominant will, though the epilogue reveals that a hostile divine consciousness still survives within the body. (Chapters 1153–1157)
